  1. If Mancini puts any hustle at all into that trot, he's sitting at 1B. The 3B actually had time to lob it over and still beat Mancini to the bag.
  2. I'm honestly fairly pessimistic. The farm has been good, not great performance wise. They have lots of guys who should be solid major leaguers but there's not much superstar upside. I thought that guy was Alcantara, but he's had a pretty disappointing year. Davis is one year from being released and Christian Hernandez is probably off every top 100 board by the end of the season. The major league team just has so many holes and question marks.Even assuming PCA/Amaya are able to fill CF/C in 2024, 3B is still greatly wanting, 1B is a huge question mark with Mervis vastly underperforming. If Stroman and/or Smyly are dealt you basically have Steele, who we may or may not see again in '23, and Wesneski in the rotation. Merryweather and Alzolay have been great, but besides that I'm kind of luke warm on Leiter and while I have high hopes for Estrada, so far he has been basically been a 1 pitch pitcher. The rest can be fired into the sun.
  3. I think I genuinely dislike this team. There's just no attachment at all.
  4. 10 minutes too late, but maybe don't walk Ohtani with the best hitter of our generation behind him.
  5. Stroman is going to net them a significant prospect.
  6. 8 runs in their last 5 games. It's almost like this is a terrible offense, which everyone but Jed seemed to know before the season started.
  7. This is the single most boring Cub team I can recall. No stars, no exciting young guys in the lineup everyday to dream on.
  8. 1st and 3rd 1 out results in 1 run on a ball that was almost a double play. The next inning 1st and 2nd with no outs and nothing. How are they just completely inept with risp?
  9. Are they reaching historical levels of ineptitude with risp yet?
  10. So forgive the ignorance, but as I understand it, the Bears still have to spend a good chunk to get to the lower limit. Is that even feasible with what's left out there? Is it unusual to add that much money at this point in the year where camps have already started?
  11. Yeah, go for the sweep because why not just reinforce how baseball makes no sense at all. Cubs getting killed by terrible teams for a month now, but hold the best team in baseball to 1 run over 2 games. Completely and totally predictable.
  12. Oakland is on pace to go 34 and 128 and have a negative run differential of 548 runs. They've allowed 80 more runs than any other team in baseball, 391 vs Colorado's 311.
  13. So the flukiest fluke that ever did fluke, understood.
  14. Sorry, maybe I believe if it's a pulled ball down the line, but the editors got greedy making him go oppo
  15. Somewhat related, but why isn't Stroman viewed more fondly, from a performance perspective, by fans? Since 2020 he has put up a 3.11 ERA which puts him at #21 in all of baseball amongst pitchers who have thrown at least 200 innings. Despite this, most fan bases view him as a decent mid rotation guy, but in reality he's closer to a low end #1 or high end #2. His ERA is actually lower than guys like Gerrit Cole, Yu Darvish, Dylan Cease, etc. over that span.
  16. I'm not sure I want one. Stroman is 32 currently and the front office has done very little to show me that they can fill all the holes on this squad to make them competitive in 2024. If Stroman stays hot he can probably snag a top 100 guy and I'm good with that.
  17. As someone who saw this as a 75-77 win team before the season, even I'm amazed at how terrible they are. 70 wins might be optimistic.
  18. The, "I swear we're trying to win" Cubs will find themselves in solo last place in the division should they lose.
  19. 3 run inning and I don't think 1 ball has hit 90mph
  20. It's kind of amazing that, by ERA, the Cubs have 3 starters in the top 20 in baseball. Steele 2.20(6th), Smyly 2.93(15th), Stroman 2.95(16th) and they're still under .500.
  21. I have very low expectations for Kyle. I know the Mets have vastly underperformed expectations offensively, but there's so much talent that I just don't think it can last forever and a soft tosser like Kyle could spark them.
  22. As I've said in game threads, I was an avid Madrigal supporter even up until this season. While the defense at 3B has been surprisingly good, the quality of contact is just terrible. His average exit velocity puts him in the bottom 3%. It doesn't matter how much contact you make when it's all low to mid 80s exit velocity and you aren't fast enough to leg out those infield singles. I could even tolerate all that if he took walks, but he just doesn't. His 3.1BB% puts him in the bottom 2% in baseball. You cannot have zero power, zero patience and good not great speed. Unless he's hitting .300+ he just doesn't carry any value.
