  1. I'm not sure this makes them any better than they ended 2023. Urshela is a bit of a 3B offensive upgrade, but a defensive downgrade. Naylor should be a significant upgrade at 1B, but realistically, the Cubs are getting a significant offensive down grade in CF. So maybe the offense is very slightly better. I'm not sure that Bieber is even an upgrade over 2023 Stroman. This is ,more or less, bring back the same talent level as the 2023 Cubs, but with pieces swapped.
  2. I might literally never watch another Bear game if they did this
  3. I never said it excused how badly they performed, but between missing I believe it was 27 scholarship players and playing what is probably the best team in the nation, it should have been an expected blow out from the beginning.
  4. Sure looks like the Lions got completely hosed on that 2 pt play. The guy clearly went up to the referee before the play and what could he possibly be telling the referee other than that he is eligible for the play?
  5. They're really going to pull a Chicago Bulls on us aren't they? They'll Bring everyone back off a mediocre to bad team and expect a different result.
  6. I think they would have lost, possibly handily at full strength regardless, but did you see how many people they were missing? They were without their top 2 QB, top 2 RB, top 2 WR, starting TE, 2 of their 3 starting LB, 3 starting DBs, and 3 starting DL. Almost literally half their team wasn't playing. They desperately need to move the transfer portal deadline because that is terrible for bowl games.
  7. I know that and you know that. Unfortunately the ones who matter don't believe that.
  8. Drummond with 23 rebounds
  9. I truly hate this franchise.
  10. 2 seasons since 2015 putting up over 1.1 fWAR and never having broken 2.8. You could get that same production out of Madrigal
  11. This implies they were actually open at some point.
  12. and perhaps saved them enough money to go after Montgomery/Snell/Imanaga.
  13. It's a shame, because this is a gamble I would have been willing to take. Even if he doesn't pan out as a starter, you have the makings of a dominant pen arm.
  14. I mentioned Santander a couple months back, but the issue is that Baltimore is going to want someone they can plug into their rotation, as an upgrade, immediately. The Cubs don't really have that. If for some reason they were willing to take prospects, then absolutely, but they're a WS quality team and they aren't going to move Santander at the cost of their chances this year.
  15. This offseason is full of weird emotions. The surprise and the high expectations coming off the Counsell signing, the excitement of the Ohtani pursuit, the realization that the Cubs weren't really all in on Ohtani and were never really in on either Yamamoto or Soto either. Then with each passing name, convincing myself that this is the one that's going to break the dam and yet the days of nothing continue to drag on. Now I just kind of alternate daily between desperation like "surely Jed is going to make a move today, he has to do something soon, right?" and the next day it's an apathy filled "I'm not sure I really care anymore, the odds of Jed putting an exciting team on the field is pretty low at this point, so whatever".
  16. These bowl games are terrible to watch now. Between kids sitting out because they're going to the draft and kids transferring, it's not making for a very good product on the field. I have no idea why they set the transfer date that early.
  17. Meanwhile people still having grand expectations for this offseason
  18. That would make more sense. Cowser+Ortiz is kind of what I've been guessing, Povich would be bonus. Holiday is 100% off the table and Basallo probably too. Cowser+Kjersted+Mayo carry similar value with Ortiz a big step down and completely blocked by Henderson.
  19. Povich would be at best a #2 piece in that deal and likely #3 if the Sox Cincy asking price was even remotely true.
  20. I'm leaning towards it meaning not much, but it's interesting that Caleb Williams' backup dropped 372 yards and 6 TDs on #15 Louisville.
  21. I'm not ready to say 5, but I comfortably think three and a pretty good shot at 4, so if he's in the COF/1B the last 3 years of the deal then that's fine with me.
  22. If reports from many sources are accurate, Seattle is ready to do just that. Though I recently read they could even be willing to move Castillo if they feel the need to shed some money.
  23. People made fun of the Cardinals for their FA SP signing just a month ago, but are now advocating for the Cubs doing the same thing. 1 front end starter surrounded by a half dozen mediocre to bad pitchers.
  24. Yes, the parts are available to make a clear division favorite, but they're going to have to actually win those players in FA. I find it increasingly unlikely that they're going to win the bid on all their guys. Also, you have to replace 4.1 fWAR in Bellinger and 2.7 fWAR in Stroman to get back to even. So even if they grabbed Bellinger and Montgomery, they likely aren't any better than the previous year even though they just spent 55-60M in 2024.
