  1. They should be excited. I think Pie can develop into a good player provided he gets an extended opportunity.
  2. I hope we get somebody for the #5 spot. I like Marshall but he and Harden make a pretty good team. I don't expect more than 110-120 innings from Harden so it's nice to have Marshall pick up the slack.
  3. What's crazy is that I honestly belief half the people on this board could have put up similar numbers as Jones last year, given the same opportunity. He hit .161 with 1 hr, right? I mean, what happened? Did this dude go blind? Apparently he could still see the buffett.
  4. Back to Hendry. Are we going to get another pitcher and decent power bat for the bench? I predict we get another pitcher (not Peavy) and some retread garbage for the bench. We'll still be the hands-down favorite for the NL Central, but I won't like it. We'll be too reliant on fragile players. Prove me wrong Donuts.
  5. Hampton is a Houston Astro. and sucks i'm not sure how you can determine a guy sucks from his pitching 12 games in 3 years. i guess it sucks to get hurt all the time though. well he sucked last year when he was "healthy", and 36 year old pitchers who have been injured for the majority of the previous 4 seasons (and were never really very good to begin with anyways) don't usually end up being very good I'm hoping that was sarcasm in the post that you responded to. I didn't even know Mike Hampton was still alive, let alone pitching in the big leagues.
  6. I'm not sure Hendry needs to go but this offseason has certainly sucked viciously. I've hated just about every move. Bradley is a terrible move, imo. The dude just can't stay healthy, and now he has to play the field everyday? Our backups suck Howry. We have 3 or 4 fragile guys and our best backup available is Aaron freakin Miles. The bullpen and rotation are weaker than they were when the season ended. Hendry keeps saying the team will be better when the season starts but I don't see it. Bah.
  7. Hopefully soon or right after the Marquis deal becomes offical. I think clearing his salary is holding up the Bradley signing. I dont get whats holding it back. Last I heard, Marquis was out of town, but it's not like he has a NTC, or at least I hope he wouldnt. Why not just pack up his locker, ship it to Denver, and be done with it? I imagine he has to pass some kind of physical.
  8. Crazy-talk. The acquisitions of Aaron Miles and Kevin Gregg are clearly going to be able to put the Cubs over the playoff hump. Oh. That and 90 games of Milton Bradley. *sticks head in oven*
  9. Does anyone see this ending well? At least Adam Dunn actually plays the field everyday (poorly, but still). With no DH spot available, I see Bradley missing a lot of time. I could give a crap about the defense, the Cubs should get Adam Dunn. When Lee's contract is up, he can shift to first base. Hell, maybe we could trade DLee to the Red Sox now. I know he has a NTC but he might be ok with it as long as he was going to a conteder. The Sox probably want to make a decent splash after the Yanks got Texiera and CC. Youkilis can go back to third and they can dump Lowel. Maybe we can get Ellsbury in return. Ok no more stream of conscience.
  10. Look what Hendry has wrought!
  11. sMaybe we can swing Trot Nixon as our LH RFer. A good set up for the inevitable 2014 aquisitions of Nick Swisher and Scott Rolen.
  12. Have you watched Dempster pitch? He's so much better than those guys. I don't understand the people who don't think that Dempster is good. Watch his stuff; it's filthy! He was mis-cast as a reliever and still wasn't terrible. He will continue to put up 15+ win seasons for the Cubs. Wow, a "use your eyes" AND using wins as a measurement in the same post. That was a gritty post. You can use any measurement you like, Dempster was awesome last year and it should continue. Remember how awesome Adrian Beltre was in 2004? Man, he was so awesome. Dempster had major surgery and basically switched positions. I don't know what to say, I just think the the 2008 version of Ryan Dempster is who he is. I like the deal a lot.

  15. Hendry better have something great up his sleave because I hate just about every move he's made this offseason (save retaining Ryan Dempster). Aaron Miles for $5MM? To play baseball? Kevin Gregg is garbage too. Hate Hate Hate Hate
  16. A couple of mid-30 dudes who were released from their Japanese team? DO NOT WANT
  17. See, this pisses me off. How long does it take to sell a baseball team? This has been going on for almost 2 years now. I'm sick of it, sell the team. It has taken longer to sell the Cubs than to elect the President of the United States. Ridiculous. I'm tired of hearing about this story.
  18. I am pretty excited the Dumpster shark will be back with the Cubs next year. I've always thought he was best suited to be a starter and think he can keep up the good work. He's got nasty stuff. As long as he stays healthy, I think he'll contribute to a lot of wins. I just wish Woody was still with the team. Hopefully we can get Peavy and a RF before ST.
  19. If that's true I don't really think Dempster wants to be a Cub very badly. He's always talked about how much he loved playing here and seemed so eager to get a deal done. This is $12MM more than Ted Lilly got and he's had a longer track record than Dempster. I'm very surprised he didn't sign this deal (if true). 4 years and $52MM for the team that picked you off the scrap heap and rehabed you? How much money do people need?
  20. With the way Lou is, I just can't imagine him sticking with gregg as the closer as he's walking guys non-stop. I know Marmol walks a lot of guy's too, but he has the K's and the ability to not give up hits to make up for it. I could see Gregg walking 2 guys and then serving up a 3 run bomb in a save opp in ST and Lou saying "that's it, Marmol is closing" Ugh.
