So the Nats get Dunn for 2/20 yet Hendry signed Bradley for 3/30. Does this look wrong to anybody else? I know Hendry had dinner with Bradley and "looked into his eyes" and all, but he surely could have got Bradley cheaper than that if he had waited. Good thing he dumped those high salary losers Wood and DeRosa.

Because we got burned on the Peavy deal and traded DeRosa to free up money before that was set in stone. I have no hope that this is true, but what if we were interested in Hudson to play SS and move Theriot to platoon with Fontenot? That would make me very happy. And I don't dislike Theriot that much. How's Hudson's defense at SS? He's never played there. However, his range at 2B is phenomenal, and his arm can't be worse than Theriot's. It'd be a big risk for Lou to take - and I don't think he will - but I think that'd be a solid upgrade. That'd leave us with literally no power on the bench, however. We already have no power on the bench. Very true. We do have an open spot on the bench, however. As of now, we could fill that spot with a power hitter (Rich Aurilia, Nomar). If we sign Hudson, though, that open spot goes away and leaves us with no power whatsoever. Rich Aurilia just signed a minor league deal with the Giants. At least I think thats what I saw on ESPN about an hour ago. Ah, hadn't seen that yet. Ok, Nomar it is then. I hate Aaron Miles so much. Me too, brother.

While that's true, it isn't like that from the player's perspective as they're just trying to make it to the top of their profession just like football players who juice. Baseball players are no different than football or basketball players, or wrestlers. They should be treated the same. However, it'll be nice to see arod get taunted everywhere. I don't think there's real incentive to dig anything up on Sosa. He's not playing anymore and kind of vanished. This just makes Ken Griffey's accomplishments all the more impressive. Looking at that normal-dude body, there's no way he used anything.

All I know is that the cubs had him working on core training, something that was non-existant in his workout when he played in japan/last year. That's about all I've heard. This is fantastic news. It will allow him to spin, helicopter-style, ever more vigorously this coming season. *steps in bucket, bails out on pitch*

Our bench is beyond terrible. For a team with as many injury-prone guys as we have, this is a real problem.

He pouted about being the odd man out for the Sox last year. He'd fit great but I don't think he would like being brought in without a position to play. We have a big problem with our depth. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much of Miles, Gaithright, kfuk and Johnson.

Agreed. Those guys are terrible. Silva mine as well be just going up into the stands and taking people's money out of their pockets.

I could easily see Manny losing interest quickly if the Giants aren't any good. The Yankees should go get him. Imagine that lineup.

Agreed. A whole lot of offseason maneuvering to be worse than they were last year. Way to work them phones, Jim! I find it funny that people are agreeing with that. I guess if you think negative stuff first, it does seem not as good. I could easily say the bench can be just as good as last year, with adding another bench player. The rotation had even more question marks a year ago, and almost every teams rotation has question marks. Plus you only factor in, possible regression, without considering possible improvement. Having Soriano for another 30-40 plus games also offsets alot of the extra AB's Fontenot got last year. But hey if it makes people feel better thinking things are more likely to go wrong then work out. I'm sure last season people were saying even worse things about the team, and most were dead wrong. Odds are the Cubs will have at least 3 starters who make 30 plus starts, and even if some guys regress, other guys will have better years then last season. When you have a team as talented as this team, things tend to even out. Rarely do good teams have everything just go wrong due to injuries and major player regession. This team has four good starters, with good depth, that most teams would love to have. Alot of teams would be happy with Gaudin/Heilman or Marshall as their number 5, and would be fine with one of those other guys filling in. It also has 7 hitters who could have 350 plus OBP guys, and 5 hitters who could be 850-900 plus OPS guys, and a bunch of very talented hard throwers in the bullpen. How many teams have what we have? Especially in the NL, so we can try to compare the current roster to last year, and whatever but it doesn't really work out that way. If people would just stop comparing to last year or whatever and just look at the roster, it's pretty damn good. I just think people feel like better opportunities have been squandered. This team has a ton of fragile guys and considerable less depth than last year. I expect Bradley, Soriano and Ramirez to each miss chunks of time. Who's going to fill in? Our bench looks positively dreadful. DeRosa was an incredibly valuable player and was traded for peanuts. Aaron Miles is a huge downgrade from him. Edmonds produced like a madman for 2 months (for free!) and is gone. Kfuk was a bust but will still be counted on to contribute.

I hope Looper didn't go to Notre Dame.
