  1. He didn't use him poorly...he just overused him Marmol in the closer role almost seems like a waste Marmol and Wood were a great team to finish off the game. If Wood is indeed gone, I hope Gregg (or anyone else besides Marmol) is the closer.
  2. haha. I agree completely. Even though he's been decent, there's no way in hell I want this turkey closing games next year. He's a glorified Chad Gaudin. The big loss in this isn't Wood not closing games for us. The big loss is Marmol closing games, if it winds up that way. You're exactly right. I think you mentioned in the other thread that it's much better to have Marmol pitching in his usual high-leverage spots. Now, they're going to put him in the ninth and move someone who isn't as good into the more important role. And now knowing that Wood would have taken a one-year deal? Brutal. Little known fact (evidently). Wood pitched in higher leverage situations than Marmol last year. That's because Marmol was used way too much, it skewed his numbers.

  4. Well, if it's true, fans have every right to be pissed and Hendry should look bad. A one-year deal should have been a no-brainer.

  6. Agreed. I like Peavy but is basically the most untouchable player on the Cubs right now, imo.
  7. well, his first two full seasons were decent, too. It's bizarre that he has managed to stay in the league this long without having an above average offensive season this decade. It's obvious that you are unfamiliar with Darin Erstad's punting prowess. oh lord someday i'd love to get an explanation for this: sportswriters mentioning that he was a punter all the time = insufferable amateur comedians making the same tired stupid jokes endlessly = yuck yuck! ?? Much better than your waste of a post.

  9. Please put Fontenot in. Put Derosa at 3rd, Reed in RF, Aramis pinch hits.
  10. Well said, hommy. I haven't felt this low in a long time.
  11. I wish I was there to boo this team, and I have never booed a home team in my life. Just an awful, awful effort. They've totally laid down.
  12. What an awful game.
  13. Hey, Ted Danson played a former major league player on a show in the 80's. He's good.
  14. That started to get pretty uncomfortable.
  15. HOly Crap!! I posted on the article and got a reply: You left the following comment at http://dickscanlon.theledger.com/default.asp?item=2264394: Are the voters aware that Jason Bartlett isn't very good at baseball, while Carlos Pena, Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford and Scott Kazmir are all very good? Just checking. The following reply was given for your comment: Ask the Rays if they think Jason Bartlett is very good at baseball.
  16. What an awesome cover.
  17. Len Kasper you are a bad man.
  18. I'd like to see Cedeno in there more often. I think he's better.
  19. it's probably easier to take instruction when you're (a) getting your last shot to play in the big leagues and (b) speak the same language as the person instructing you. I was kind of being sarcastic. I'm sure Kouske has tried to make adjustments. It's just that they haven't worked very well.
  20. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/tom_verducci/07/01/lincecum0707/4.html Lincecum's father seems to think that Tim can pitch as much as he wants. With that in mind, Tim, his father, and those around them (Bochy/etc) are going under the assumption that they can pitch him for very high counts. Very unfortunate thinking imo ... time will tell, but they better be a bit more wary of the wear and tear that this is unnecessarily doing to him. Given that Koufax's career was cut short with arm injuries...isn't he a bad pick as evidence that his son will "throw forever?" My thoughts exactly. Koufax retired early because of pain in his elbow.
  21. Just think, if he didn't want to play with the Cubs, he probably would've gotten a lot more. IIRC there were published reports that San Diego offered him more than we did. And the White Sox too, I believe.
  22. Kouske is uncoachable. If I was Lou, I'd punch him right in the face. Jim Edmonds is 483 years old and he changed his approach at the plate. Why can you, kfuk?
  23. It really shouldn't be hard for them to hire someone who knows what they're talking about. I've seen him on tv enough to know that he likely eats Howry-cakes before stepping behind the mike.
  24. Last time Pujols executed a sac bunt, Geo was 18. Kaplan is pretty much calling Geo mentally weak. Are you serious?? That's terrible. Soto was killing the ball tonight. Bunting with him was a terrible decision. Yeah, he said "hitter's talk themselves out of being able to bunt." "It's part of the game, everyone should be able to do it." Then some idiot called about Pujols and Rolen being able to bunt. Rolen and Pujols have a combined 2 sac bunts in their careers. But I know Scott could do more if he wanted to cause he's white. That's amazing. Kap swears that he turned on the TV a couple of years ago and saw Pujols bunting. Someone needs to call Kap and call him out on his bullHowry That settles it. Geovany Soto can't bunt as well as Albert Pujols. I've had enough of this crap. DFA his no-bunting butt!!!!!!
