  1. I think the only thing we could do to fix the roster is call up Baez and Shwarber as soon as possible and hope for the best. The offense is bad due to underperformance, not bad roster construction. Fowler's OPS should be 100 points higher, Castro shouldn't be a complete black hole in the lineup, and we were hoping for at least an .800 OPS from Soler. Montero could be a tick better, too. There's little to do beyond practicing patience and good coaching. On that point - someone seriously needs to help Castro with his swing. But at least he seems more patient this year. Until he reaches two strikes, then he completely freaks out.
  2. Imagine how much better our record would be if we beat bad teams and our closers didn't throw meatballs against power hitters in close games. Seriously, this is mind-boggling. On the other hand, we get to watch Rizzo and Bryant hit dongs on Monday.
  3. Coming into today, the White Sox had scored the fewest runs in baseball over the last thirty days. We're even worse than that, it seems.
  4. I will note the incredibly frustrating tendency of this team to [expletive] the bed as soon as they reach their high water mark of the season.
  5. Looks like everyone has checked out of this game.
  6. On the point of a couple people (myself, admittedly included) saying the Cubs aren't fun to watch, it's because this team doesn't hit many home runs, doesn't hit with runners in scoring position, and doesn't blowout other teams. Every game we're hanging on by the skin of our teeth. That isn't fun for me.
  7. It's hard to quantify your team getting screwed over by fluky nonsense all the time, so when it happens, selection bias kicks in and we assume it happens all the time. I will admit that the amount bad luck this team endures is vastly overstated.
  8. Our record isn't worth the frustration of worrying if we're going to score one measly run each game. The offense is beyond pathetic and isn't worth anyone's time.
  9. This is the most Cubsest game we've played all year. Runs, please. Seriously.
  10. That's why I asked. I guess there is, then, cause I couldn't fall asleep for a good 90 minutes after that game. That [expletive] hurt. How do you guys just let it go like that? It stuck in my mind like a thorn. It stung for a bit, but I refuse to let the performance of a professional sports team, something utterly beyond my control, dictate my well-being. So I got over it in a hurry. Not saying you're wrong for letting it bother you. We're just wired differently.
  11. Games like this happen during the course of the season. It sucks. Every team goes through it. But so far this year, we've had more reason to celebrate than to vent. Look what happened today. One of our better pitchers got hurt. We threw two scrappy pitchers at the Cardinals and came within one strike of winning. Today could have ended in a blowout and we would be much less frustrated than we are right now. How today ended really, really sucked. But we're still in a good spot right now.
  12. I'm too happy to complain about Carpenter making a flawless barehand throw.
  13. Good outing by Wood tonight! Now for goodness sake, don't put Motte in unless we have a five run lead.
  14. This is the most beautiful experience of my life. Everyone, please remember the padres game where we gave up tons of runs after supposed strike three calls. This is karma.
  15. HOLY [expletive] YES MIGGY I LOVE YOU!
  16. Like Miggy? Castro at least has better bat control than Miggy.
  17. Would be nice if Montero could actually make [expletive] contact with that swing.
  18. Jesus christ, that was right there! It wasn't even close!
  19. Hard hit balls at fielders: the movie.
  20. Outfield playing in for the pitcher. Of course.
  21. Maybe a cramp or a strain? With plenty of time to recover during the all-star break, I wouldn't be too worried.
  22. What's up with all the rain this summer?
