  1. So how far did the system go after the players threw it?
  2. Carolina has released WR Dwayne Jarrett following his second DWI arrest in less than three years.
  3. As if the Panthers don't have enough problems at WR with Steve Smith likely to miss the game, now they've released Dwayne Jarrett following his second DWI arrest in less than three years.
  4. None of your 7 favorite teams made the playoffs this year? In baseball my 7 favorite teams are the Cubs, Cubs, Cubs, Cubs, Cubs, Cubs, and Cubs.
  5. No strong preference this year; I'm more interested in having close series than caring who wins.
  6. Better than last year. I didn't even bother with my second-half transactions because of my general blah attitude about this year.
  7. And BTW, I think that reversing Adam's move out of anger was more a case of being human than being a bad commissioner. He's rubbed a lot of us the wrong way and a lot of us, myself included, have probably said things we wouldn't normally say in reaction to his posts. This issue isn't by any means the first time that's happened (I won't even mention the name of the former Brewers' pitcher, but I will mention the situation from this spring where Juan finally deleted an important draft thread because of Adam's being an ass about gall bladders).
  8. A complicating factor is that I believe Al's move was actually made AFTER you said teams no longer participating can't pick up players, while Adam's move was BEFORE. What I think is the fairest solution for this year is to allow the moves, but open up a reasonable window (maybe two weeks) if anybody else wants to pick up any minor league eligible players (not including 2010 draftees), with the caveat that they need to keep their minor league roster legal at the maximum of 10. Everybody would thus have the same opportunity. Going forward, I suggest modifying the rules to clearly state that, once teams are no longer participating, they can't pick up any players. Teams still participating I think should be allowed to pick up an injury replacement if needed with the understanding that the player must then be dropped after the team is no longer participating in the playoffs (as Brian did with Olivo); that way a playoff team would be able to be competitive in the playoffs without having an unfair advantage for the next year. So my actual vote in the Roadkill poll will be to allow the moves, but with the qualification I stated in this post.
  9. I'm going to the game at Carolina next week. I'm not looking forward to it as much as I was. One consolation is that I'll either see my favorite team win or else see the local team (whom I root for when they're not playing the Bears) win their first game of the year.
  10. Arizona gets an extra pick because they didn't sign their first-round pick from this year.
  11. In the coaches poll Northwestern is #25 and Air Force is #27 (behind Texas).
  12. Before the game his career longest was 53 yards.
  13. Giants and Braves in the postseason party, Padres out.
  14. Looks like you're 1/2 point over for being able to keep Pujols, Arod, Hamilton, and Morneau. If Pujols didn't get one walk today you would have just snuck in under the limit.
  15. A real team player. Willing to take a bit of a hit to his personal stats to keep the Cubs from falling further in the Fecal League standings.
  16. A very pleasant surprise. Either the MAC is really really historically awful (more likely) or Ball State just played their best game in 2 years. Actually, both of those are true. With Western and Eastern the next two, both at home, BSU might actually have a prayer of starting 3-0 in the league. Considering that Eastern and Western Michigan are a combined 1-8 at this point it seems like that should happen. If not for the loss to an FCS team (Liberty) that would have meant a 5-2 start with the only losses against Big 10 teams. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.
  17. Ball State beat Central Michigan 31-17 to equal their win total (2) for all of 2009.
  18. One can go from zero to hero or vice-versa in very little time.
  19. Yes, they changed it, but not sure when. It was after 1998, because the Cubs' wild card tie-breaker against the Giants counted as game 163. I'm thinking it may have been around 2000 or 2001.
  20. Maybe the Mets can do us a favor and hire Hendry away as their new GM.
  21. After tonight's game we're close to a must-lose situation. We just can't lose for winning.
  22. Finally something you and the rest of the league agree on. This is truly a red letter day. :D
  23. Turns out today is also the anniversary of Williams completing the last .400 season in MLB history (1941).
  24. I've got a better idea for talking. Let's talk about you stopping your insufferable pouting EVERY DAMN TIME you don't get your way. GROW UP and stop ruining the fun. i'll give you ben sheets if you stop posting. Here's a better counteroffer: You start playing by the same rules as the rest of us without whining about it and I'll promise never to mention the name Ben Sheets in this league again. counter-counteroffer. you show me what rule i violated by picking up eric young jr and i'll give you ben sheets, eric young jr and season 1 of undercover boss on dvd. that's pretty fair. We could keep this going back and forth for a long time. I'm done in this thread, though (at least for now). I've had my say.
