  1. They may just call up another pitcher and go with 12 like they have the past couple of seasons. I'd like to see what Aardsma can do.
  2. For DirecTV Extra Innings subscribers, the game is on Channel 743.
  3. BTW, 100 randomly selected simulated fans will win towels used by rehabilitating Cubs pitchers in towel-tossing drills. The towels will each have a simulated certificate of authenticity.
  4. Take me out to the simulated ballgame, Take me out with the simulated crowd, Buy me some simulated peanuts and Crackerjacks, I don't care if I never get back, For it's root, root, root for the simulated Cubbies, If they don't win it's a shame, For it's one, two, three simulated strikes you're out, At the old simulated ballgame. LET'S GET SOME SIMULATED RUNS!
  5. I can just imagine cheering when a fly ball is hit toward Dunn: Drop that ball! Drop that ball!
  6. When did Marge have a sex change operation? :D
  7. A simulated game calls for a simulated game thread. Maybe a simulated Bruce Miles can post a simulated lineup and a simulated Fred Hornkohl can post simulated game worthless stats. :D
  8. Picking up Walker in the 17th round is definitely a steal. I was even luckier than that in another league I'm in. Walker went completely undrafted, and I was later able to pick him up as a free agent. And that's a league of primarily Cub fans that passed on him. In fairness, the draft was several weeks earlier in that league as compared to RK, and at the time of that draft it still seemed likely that Walker would either be traded or else on the Cubs' bench behind Hairston.
  9. He shares his birthday with Kyle Farnsworth and Pete Rose.
  10. Based on his first two starts, I'm feeling good about getting Maddux in the 8th round.
  11. http://www.nbc.com/nbc/The_West_Wing/images/imgs_bio/jimmy_smits.jpg Maybe Santos will be distracted after just being elected President. After all, he has to choose a Vice President, a Cabinet, and his staff. Oh, wait; wrong Santos. :D
  12. I agree with the sentiment that some others have expressed here. The purpose of Premium membership isn't to sell bells and whistles. The purpose is for Tim to be able to raise enough money so that he can afford to run this site. I suspect that, even with the Premium membership, Tim may not even being breaking even, let alone making a profit. I don't know that as a fact and could be wrong. The bells and whistles are basically an expression of gratitude for those whose contributions allow the site to exist. If there was no Premium membership, and therefore Tim couldn't afford to continue operating the site, good luck finding another site with the insights provided by board members, the relatively troll-free environment, the opportunity to interact with Cubs personnel (including minor league players), etc. I somewhat liken this to PBS pledge drives. They offer different gifts for people who contribute at different levels. People don't contribute mainly because they want the gifts (the required contributions exceed the value of the gifts, so from a pure value perspective it isn't worth it). Rather, they contribute because they like PBS programming and realize that it wouldn't be able to continue without support from users. The gifts are a nice added bonus. People should look at Premium membership the same way.
  13. According to minorleaguebaseball.com he's now with Nashville (AAA affiliate of Milwaukee). He currently has a .000 average and .091 OBP in 10 at-bats. His team is currently playing at Iowa (series ends today).
  14. Agreed. Both leagues need to have an even number of teams (to avoid interleague play all season long), but it doesn't have to be the same number in both leagues.
  15. Didn't the Cubs offer more money than the Braves but at that point Maddux was just fed up with Cub's front office? I thought it was Maddux offering to come back at a salary he had been offered by the Cubs back in July or so, but Himes said he could no longer offer that amount. I believe it was actually slightly less than the Braves were offering.
  16. I look for a big year from him. The last few years he's struggled the first half of the season but pitched well after the All-Star break. This year he's pitched well from the very beginning. One early gem could have been a fluke, but not two in a row. 16--20 wins, 3.50--3.75 ERA, and a spot on the All-Star team. His off-season workout program seems to have been successful in getting him ready from the beginning.
  17. According to a book about the Cubs (I believe it was The Million to One Team) the real culprit was the Trib exec in charge of the Cubs at the time (I think it was Stanton Cook, but I'm not sure). Apparently Himes requested more money from the Trib to re-sign Maddux, but the Trib turned him down.
  18. Cubs are also 5-0 in non-Shawn Es-- I mean, in non-Glendon Rusch starts. Keep the streak alive! Isn't that curious.... the CUBS are also 5-0 in games where they don't face Bronson Arroyo !!! They're also 5-0 in games where they score more runs than the opponent, and 0-2 in games where they score less. :D
  19. Back up to three, thanks to Babe Barrett. Pujols tomorrow.
  20. They should pay a commission to NSBB for the publicity. If I decide to subscribe to it after the trial subscription expires (which I think is quite likely) it will only be because of the mention here that I even knew about it. :D
  21. http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/images/covers/posters/190567.jpg Thank you, sir. May I please have another?
  22. I wasn't even aware of this magazine. I noticed on their web site that they have a free three-month trial subscription; I signed up for it. The regular subscription rate of $12 per year is very good.
  23. Shelton yesterday and Lee today have me back up to two.
  24. I didn't get the information from a web site; it came from the printed Cubs' media guide (which is available to the public). It's possible that the Red Sox have a media guide with similar information, but what I'd suggest is contacting their public relations department and asking them if they can provide you with that information. You could also contact the Blue Jays public relations department; maybe one of the two could. You might be able to e-mail them through the teams' official web sites.
  25. Are you forgetting about Wade Miller?
