  1. I'm surprised nobody's mentioned this one yet:
  2. He knew he'd pitch like this? No, of course he didn't KNOW it, but he knew the possibility existed. And, as we saw, that in fact happened.
  3. No wonder the Cardinals didn't keep Mateo. He can't even shut out a college team.
  4. My streak's at four now, thanks to Lee's dinger. Tomorrow my streak continuing is tied to Rollins continuing his streak.
  5. More like Rusch going 4, then Williams coming in. :D For those who were saying that Williams should have pitched the other day, I think we now see why Dusty saved him.
  6. I don't like that idea either. To me this is just like several years ago where mlb.com took control over the setup of all the major league team sites. I like it when the teams can decide what to include on their own sites. I don't remember specifics, but I do remember there were things that used to be on the cubs.com site that aren't there any more because they have to fit in with the cookie-cutter format of all the MLB sites.
  7. Three in a row, thanks to Arod.
  8. Dave Crouthers is who you're thinking of.
  9. Maybe they think they can get Mazzone to work his magic and get Remlinger back on track. Oh, wait. :D

    Week 1

That's bulletin board material. My players are really fired up now. :D
  11. Who did we mistakenly trade for him?
  12. I'm at two, with Peralta on Sunday and DLee on Monday. Arod's up next.
  13. Is this the same Watson that was in the Cubs' system (I believe Iowa) two or three years ago? If so, I wasn't impressed with him then.
  14. Does Hagerty look like he's finally healthy again? Last year he couldn't get anybody out at Boise; this year he's in Daytona's rotation. Hopefully that's a sign that he's back on track.
  15. Me likey. :D
  16. I believe he took some personal time away from the team during Spring Training. My understanding was that he was whining about the fact that he was actually expected to EARN a spot in the starting rotation. He apparently thought that his 5-17 record and 5.80 ERA last year should have automatically entitled him to a starting spot.

  18. You can make changes to your team up until the April 8 deadline I mentioned in my original post. After that you're stuck with your team for better or worse. If a player on your team gets benched, goes on the DL, or gets sent to the minors, he's still on your team.

    Week 1

I have the highest season point total in the entire league. Worst to first, baby! This may be the only time this year I can make that claim.
  20. Bartosh is hardly a "longtime" Cub; last year was his first year with the Cubs. The only one from that list I'd miss (if, in fact, he's gone) would be Jackson. I still hold out hope that he can regain his form if healthy.
  21. We've both picked Hatteberg, Womack, and Podsednik. Hopefully they'll live up (er, down) to our expectations.
  22. My team is called Dusty's Base Cloggers: C--Brad Ausmus 1B--Scott Hatteberg 2B--Kazuo Matsui 3B--David Bell SS--Christian Guzman LF--Scott Podsednik CF--Tike Redman RF--Jacque Jones P--Eric Milton P--Chan Ho Park
  23. Hacking Mass is a fantasy contest on Baseball Prospectus's web site, where the objective is to pick the worst team you can. You pick 8 position players and 2 pitchers. Scoring is based on a system called Exuded Stiff Points, Net (ESPN). For hitters, ESPN is determined based on (.800 - OPS) X PA. For pitchers, [(ERA - 4.50) X IP]/3. Points can be positive or negative; high point total wins. There is a special rule that you cannot use a pitcher projected as a starter for the Rockies. Because ESPN is weighted by plate appearances for hitters and innings pitched for pitchers, you need players who are putrid, but somehow still get playing time. The prize for the winner is $500 plus a copy of a print of Bud Selig with reproduced signature. In addition, the top 10 finishers win a one year BP premium subscription. To enter you must be a BP subscriber; this can include their free basic subscription. Rosters are frozen Saturday, April 8 at midnight PST. It isn't possible to formally set up leagues for this contest; however, we can simulate an NSBB league here. Everybody who enters can post their team names and rosters here. Periodically throughout the season I'll ask for people to check their scores and post them here, and based on that we can keep standings as if this were a league.
  24. Jhonny was my pick as well. He's on my team in a keeper league, so I figured I'd let him help me twice. :D
