  1. Heagreed to termsw with the Colts. That means they won't be trying to re-sign Vanderjagt.
  2. I haven't seen any mention of this on the board, but just this year this DVD was released. It's based on an interview of Vince conducted back in 2002 by Tim Sheridan, PA announcer for the Cubs' Spring Training games at Hohokam Park, who also operates a website devoted to the Cubs' Spring Training, Boys of Spring. The DVD primarily involves Vince reminiscing about some of the past Cub players (such as Banks, Jenking, Williams, and Santo) as well as some of the broadcasters (Jack, Harry, and Lou). It's not very fancy (mainly just a camera focused on Vince, with Tim unseen in the background) and I found it a bit distracting with Vince continually trying to light his cigar, but I still found it enjoyable. The DVD can be ordered online using PayPal, or by phone (1-888-CUB-FILM). The cost is $19.95 + $4.50 shipping. Tim is also working on a DVD called Boys of Spring, which will be about the Cubs' Spring Training history in Arizona. This area of his website has information about some of what will be on the DVD. I'm anxiously looking forward to it. Interestingly, I discovered this purely by accident. I'd never heard of this website before, but found it through a Google search a few weeks ago when I was looking for Cubs' Spring Training information before going to a game while vacationing in Arizona.
  3. Even if you were going to whack him with it?
  4. And all by May 1 It'll all be meaningless if we tank in April. What was Houston's record at the end of April in 2005? They're the exception, not the rule. There was also a recent (2003) team that was below .500 at one point as late as July, and still won their division. What team was that? :D
  5. I would not do it. I wouldn't touch the whiny Soriano with a ten foot poll.
  6. He turned out to be a pretty good pitcher, though. (I know, you're actually talking about the great Eddie Zambrano.)
  7. You only have 15 teams in this list.
  8. If the Nats tell him to play in the OF, I believe he'd have no choice but to comply unless he wants to breach his contract and give the Nats grounds for terminating it. I'm sure his contract says nothing about being guaranteed to play a specific position. However, there'd be nothing to stop him from dogging it and going through the motions.
  9. McCallum was the star player when I was attending BSU. He led them to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 1981. They won the regular season MAC championship in 1982 but got upset by Northern Illinois in the championship game of the MAC tournament. Ray is probably the most popular player in BSU history. He's from Muncie and was a high school star for Muncie Central (I believe they won at least one state championship while he was there).
  10. Doesn't look like I'll successfully defend my championship. That's OK; I'll settle for winning Roadkill instead. :D
  11. Any talk yet about who the new Ball State coach might be? Reminds me of the Valparaiso-Rhode Island matchup in the Sweet 16 a few years ago.
  12. Health was a factor as well. Harkey, Dickson, and Wallace (after being traded) had promising careers ruined by injuries.
  13. So you're Dukie V. :D
  14. Like 1990, when a certain MAC school in Indiana made the Sweet 16 and almost beat eventual champion UNLV to advance to the Elite 8.:D I hear about that all the time. Wish I'd been here for it, sounds like it was amazing to see. It was a great two-year period. The year before, with Majerus still the coach, they beat two or three Big 10 teams in nonconference play (I remember beating Purdue and Minnesota, and I was thinking they may have beaten Northwestern as well), then dominated the MAC and was nationally ranked, for the first time in history, at the end of the season. They were seeded 8th for the NCAA tourney and beat #9 Pittsburgh (first NCAA tournament win in school history) before losing to #1 Illinois. They played in Indianapolis that year, and I went to the first and second round games (at that time I was at UK in graduate school). In 1990, with Majerus having left for Utah and Dick Hunsaker taking over, they had a few more losses (not surprising since they weren't sneaking up on people anymore) but still easily won the MAC regular season and tournament championships. They were seeded lower than the previous year (12th), which is actually a much more favorable seeding. They reached the Sweet 16 by beating #5 Oregon State and #4 Louisville before losing to UNLV by two (I believe UNLV won every other game in the tournament by double-digit margins; they were truly dominant that year).
  15. Like 1990, when a certain MAC school in Indiana made the Sweet 16 and almost beat eventual champion UNLV to advance to the Elite 8.
  16. Reverse psychology. I'm picking UConn to jinx them so UK will win. :D
  17. I sank like the :titanic: . From a 2nd place tie to a 20th place tie in one day.
  18. They were bad in 2002, but in 2001 they were 88-74 (exactly the same record as 2003) and leading the division much of the year. That's the year they acquired Fred McGriff to put them over the top and stalled Patterson's development by bringing him up before he was ready because Baylor wanted his speed on the bench to use as a pinch runner.
  19. You're right; I remember the big loss to Pittsburgh but forgot what round it was in. Today made my signature a moot point anyway.
  20. As often as they've switched conferences, they may have switched to the Ivy League since the last time you checked.
  21. And also Quincy Carter, who played college football at Georgia while he was in the Cubs' minor league system.
  22. My second round picks: Today: Duke Syracuse  Indiana UCLA Illinois Tennessee Nevada  Florida Tomorrow: Southern Illinois  Texas Memphis Kansas  UConn North Carolina Ohio State Villanove
  23. That's always the way it is on Saturday of the first weekend. They show a quadrupleheader, but there's only one game during the early time. I don't really like it that way, since there's no other game to switch to if the game turns into a blowout (it wouldn't matter to me anyway; since Duke is a local team they'd stick with it regardless of how ugly it might get). Sunday is only a tripleheader, so CBS can show its usual primetime lineup.
  24. You might post this question in the Nathan Boliva Q & A thread. He's been at Spring Training (I'm not sure if he still is), so he might know.
  25. I think what happened is that when I posted that I was tied for first was before the results of the Kansas game were posted. We both picked Kansas, and the leader picked Bradley, so that moved him one game ahead.
