  1. This movement needs a catchy, rhyming slogan. Presenting "The Run for 1." :D
  2. I think that's true in the Southern League as well. I know at least that Tennessee's contract with Arizona is up, as was Carolina's contract with Florida (although that one has already been renewed).
  3. Maybe for keeping them out of jail. :D
  4. The Iowa Cubs' web site shows Chavez as the scheduled starter.
  5. At least they got two things right. It was a Rich Hill start, and it was against the Giants.
  6. AAAA pitcher. Middle reliever at best. :D
  7. I definitely want Hill to do well. One way to get the best of both worlds would have been for Hill to have pitched well but the bullpen blow the game. The Cubs just had too big of a lead for that to happen today, though. That darn Riot. :D
  8. Doesn't look promising today. 5-0 Cubs, with Hill shutting the Giants down.
  9. There's currently an odd number of teams in the league. At least one more member is needed to have an even number by draft time next Monday.
  10. And this time the Internet feed BETTER be working flawlessly or there will be hell to pay.
  11. I think there's a set time limit for announcing a PTBNL, but I don't recall what it is.
  12. Actually, since it's now Sept. 1, the 25-man roster no longer exists. Rosters have expanded. Since the minor league season is still going on I wouldn't expect anybody to be called up yet; I think it's more likely that some of the injured players will be activated from the DL. Well, then we have a spot open on our 40 man roster. Since the 15-day DL is included on the 40 man roster, we either have to activate someone on the 60-day DL (Wade Miller perhaps) or just add someone to the 40 man roster. Now that I think about it, the Cubs will definitely activate Wade Miller. No reason not to. I think that's likely, but they don't actually HAVE to do anything. 40 is the maximum sie of the roster, but there's no rule that is must be that size. They could leave a spot open for somebody to be protected from the Rule 5 draft in the offseason.

  14. First and foremost, those positions are General Manager, Manager, Pitching Coach, and Hitting Coach. I wouldn't mind upgrades at the positions of President and Owner either.
  15. I think Mel Rojas was very similar. He was a very good setup man for the Expos, but once he signed the big contract with the Cubs to be a closer, he sucked.
  16. The board software really needs to include the option to choose multiple responses.
  17. I'd do it in a heartbeat. Young can play, and hopefully the Cubs' new manager won't destroy him. Having said that, as others have pointed out, Tampa Bay would not do it. They'd probably laugh in Hendry's face for even suggesting it.
  18. If Ramirez leaves, firing Hendry immediately is mandatory. As far as I'm concerned Hendry put his job on the line by creating the possibility Ramirez could walk, and he needs to be held accountable. Asking loyal, long-suffering Cub fans to be patient and sit through yet another rebuilding project is not an option.
  19. Since nobody started one yet I set up a league for Survival Football. League ID 14807, password byebyedusty. For those not familiar with the game, you pick one team to win each week. If your team wins, you stay alive and continue the next week. If your team loses, you're eliminated. The game ends when only one player remains alive. If all remaining contestants are eliminated the same week, they're considered to be co-champions; there are no tie-breakers. If there are several weeks remaining in the NFL season when the contest ends, the league will be reset and a new contest will begin. It's important to note that for this contest the deadline for submitting picks is 11:59 P.M. Pacific time the night before the first game of the week (not five minutes before kickoff, as it is for the pick'em games). Remember that week 1 begins with a Thursday night game, so the week 1 deadline is 11:59 P.M. Pacific time Wednesday, Sept. 6. Several people were eliminated last year because they forgot about the early deadline for week 1.
  20. In his first three major league games he's 8 for 11 with 1 HR, 4 RBI, and 3 runs scored. What a bust. He's made one out every game. :D
  21. Very unlikely that he'd receive severance pay. He will have fulfilled his contract and gotten paid what he agreed to. There's no obligation to pay any severance when he simply isn't signed to a new contract. If he were to be fired during his current contract he would be entitled to the remainder of his salary (unless they negotiate different terms for a buyout).
  22. There's no point in letting Prior walk right now since they have him on the cheap through 2007. Actually he's under the Cubs' control through 2008. His free agency clock didn't start ticking until 2003 because he didn't come up until the middle of 2002.
  23. That's far enough back I think it's likely one of the older threads that got archived a while back to when the board was crashing frequently.
  24. I think there's something to the rumor; I read somewhere that Wells was scratched from his scheduled start today.
  25. Yep, the Mets' collapse that year was very Cub-like. :D
