  1. He may be a jerk (OK, he is, no maybe about it). However, if he can help the Cubs win, so be it. The Cubs tried the good character thing in 2005, and it didn't work.
  2. A private jet carrying Arod and six others overran a runway in California today. Fortunately, an arresting system successfully stopped the plane. Nobody was injured and the plane sustained only minor damage.
  3. A great one! Pilfered for my signature. :D
  4. Yep, he began his career with the Braves while Aaron was still with them. He was on the team when Aaron surpassed the Babe.
  5. I'll gladly take that bellyaching as long as it comes along with winning. :D
  6. I hope that an increased payroll comes with increased expectations, and that Hendry is told that he MUST come up with a contending team in 2007 if he wishes to remain for 2008.
  7. That article was cold as ice... Too willing to sacrifice?
  8. I believe it's some form of arthritis in his elbow (the one he had TJS on).
  9. It's great news IF Hendry has learned from his mistakes and learned that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to signing players. If it just means signing a greater number of Neifi/Glendon types then he could have $200 million to spend and it wouldn't help.
  10. I'm still doing the Q and A. This thread just seemed to take on that quality. you didn't answer my first question ;) Nor did he answer BalsaWoodKeyBoard's question about being a Communist. :D
  11. News about a couple other former Cubs: Cleveland outrighted Jason Dubois to AAA Buffalo, and Texas designated Jerry Hairston Jr. for assignment.
  12. Carolina linebacker Dan Morgan will miss the rest of the season due to a concussion. Also, first round draft pick DeAngelo Williams will not play this week due to a sprained ankle suffered against Cleveland.
  13. MUCH better schedule (from my perspective) than West Tenn's in 2006. Three series at Carolina (as opposed to only one for West Tenn this year).
  14. I disagree. I'd be happy to send them Izturis for Bochy. :D
  15. I was thinking it was Oakland, but either way he did come from another team as opposed to being promoted.
  16. Going 16-0 but not winning the Super Bowl to me would be like the 1906 Cubs, having the best winning percentage in major league history (I believe they still have that distinction) but losing the World Series to the White Sox. Give me 15-1 or 14-2 with a Super Bowl win any day. It would be ironic if they lose one game and it's to Miami, since that's exactly what happened in 1985.
  17. Week 5: 215 points (burned by both the 49ers and Titans defenses; I should have known better than to go with a defense playing against the pathetic Raides, but the Titans defense against the Colts offense SHOULD have been a huge scorer). Overall 1855 points for 705th place; 3rd both for the week and overall in the NSBB group (a whole bunch of zeroes in the group last week).
  18. The last former Padres manager the Cubs hired did pretty good (Jim Riggleman). Maybe Bochy can continue that trend.
  19. I think we might see listach as our new pitching coach if it isnt rothschild.. Interesting... Don't former pitchers become pitching coaches? I imagine there are more desirable candidates to fill that position that a former infielder. And catchers (e.g. Dave Duncan), but not middle infielders. Listach may become hitting coach (I believe he's previously filled that position for Iowa), but definitely not pitching coach.
  20. [nitpicking] Dunn set the strikeout record in 2004 with 195. He had 168 K's in 2005. This year he finished with 2006. As per baseball-reference [/nitpicking] That's a LOT of strikeouts. :D
  21. Baseball Tonight would become Yankees Tonight.
  22. Ho-hum. Another week, another huge score for my team thanks largely to the Bears. Grossman and Gould combined for 50 points. Not bad for a 13th round pick (Grossman) and the last pick of the entire draft (Gould). :D
  23. Mine would have to be drafting Griese instead of Grossman in one of my leagues. Fortunately, everybody passed on Grossman in that league and I was able to pick him up as a free agent after the first week. In fact, I'm in three leagues and have King Rex in all three leagues (two as a free agent pickup, one as a late-round draft pick). I also have Berrian in two leagues (both as free agent pickups) and Gould in two leagues (one as a free agent pickup, the other as the very last player chsoen by any team in the draft). So in one league I have Grossman and Berrian, in one league Grossman and Gould, and in one league I have all three. Wait; this thread is supposed to be about BAD moves, not GOOD ones. :D
  24. Or else this Kenny Rogers.
  25. I'm now completely on the Tigers' bandwagon. If the Cubs aren't in the postseason I'm all for a team that does a public service by making the Yankees look like chumps in the very first round. :D
