  1. Do you think the Tribune will sell the Cubs? If so, do you have a feel for who might be a potential buyer? And finally, if the Cubs are for sale, do you think this will limit their ability to spend money during the offseason? Thanks again for your valuable contributions to NSBB.
  2. http://www.dailyherald.com/images/mugs/miles.jpg Bruce Miles, Cubs' beat writer for the Daily Herald and regular NSBB contributor, has graciously agreed to answer questions from posters on NSBB! If you would like to send a comment to Bruce, or if you would like to ask Bruce a question, feel free to post it in the Chat Schedule/Questions for Guests forum. The deadline for submitting questions is Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 12:00 noon Central time. Once Bruce has had an opportunity to answer them, the responses will be posted. This session will be coordinated as in accordance with The NSBB Q & A Guidelines. Thank you to Bruce for again taking the time to interact with us on such an up close and personal level, as well as his contributions on an ongoing basis. As always, thank you to all of you for making NSBB such a wonderful community!

  5. Perhaps an even more positive stat: Number of Larry Rothschilds currently acting as Cubs pitching coach: 0 Number of Larry Rothschilds that could be rehired by new manager: One too many.
  6. Agreed. I hope they don't do the same thing to Ron Santo. I really liked O'Neil's recollections in Ken Burns' Baseball miniseries.
  7. Well I'm sure they could fare better than the 01' squad. I hate to use the term "fluke", but alot of things bounced their way in 01. Alot of things. 2001 WAS a fluke. Three consecutive losing seasons after that says it all. This team is the real thing.
  8. 1. Cabrera 2. Arod 3. Ramirez 4. Crawford 5. Tejada
  9. NC State beat Florida State tonight. Chuck Amato seems to have his former boss's number.
  10. I think Girardi is the likely choice, and the more I think about it the more I support him. He did a very good job with a young, low payroll team. I know there are concerns with how he gets along with management, but I think that may relate only to the specific situation in Florida. I've read that he has a good relationship with both Hendry and McDonough, so I wouldn't expect a repeat here. Since he's still new to managing, I'd hope they bring in a veteran former manager as bench coach to help him.
  11. Your efforts in establishing a relationship are definitely appreciated.
  12. He could certainly have a list of those he'd like to contact without actually making the contact. The Marlins proved that it is very possible to move quickly; there's no reason the Cubs couldn't have done the same.
  13. Leading the league in hits without hitting .300. I'd guess that doesn't happen very often.
  14. Hoping: Tigers vs. Padres Expecting: Yankees vs. Mets
  15. This year's results show that the opportunity was there for the Cubs, but they just blew it. :(
  16. Bye bye baseball season (although I'll still follow postseason). I have more than usual to be optimistic about football, since my two favorite teams (Bears and Colts, in that order) could well meet in the Super Bowl and my third favorite team (Panthers) are on the upswing now with Steve Smith back (they should be 3-1 if not for the stupid 4th down call against the Vikings).
  17. Just a reminder that there's a Friday night game this week in the college pick'em contest (Louisville at Middle Tennessee State). If you miss the deadline for that game you can still pick the rest.
  18. I agree Z must be kept at all costs. I don't want to see him become the next Maddux, developing as a star with the Cubs and exploding as a superstar right after leaving.
  19. They also think (rightly or wrongly) that Girardi blew out one of their young arms after asking the starter to come back and pitch after a rain delay. It was Josh Johnson, a rookie. He came back to pitch after the rain delay and felt a twinge in his arm or elbow (I don't recall the exact details). I believe he was shut down for the year after that. That incident reminded me of when Baylor sent Jon Lieber back out after a lengthy rain delay. It wasn't long after that he was diagnosed with a torn elbow ligament and underwent TJS. Many people pointed to that game as the cause of the injury (rightly or wrongly). I think that was during Girardi's second stint with the Cubs.
  20. I think many of us saw this crash coming a mile away. Forewarned is forearmed.
  21. If either of them are available, jump on D'Angelo Williams (Panthers) or Addai (Colts; I'm not sure what his first name is). They were their teams' number one draft picks this year. Neither is starting yet, but both are getting significant playing time and putting up good numbers. I expect both to be starting by or before the halfway point of the season.
  22. He's working on trading vance to another board I hear the deal is Vance to WSI for Jabroni and a troll to be named later. :D
  23. It seems to be. Throughout the day I kept getting the error message, but it always cleared up with one refresh. This time on I haven't gotten the error once.
