  1. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/74/Seinfeld_s7e6.jpg No playoffs for you! (Or me :( )
  2. Despite losing Tennessee is in the playoffs. With 1 game remaining Huntsville leads both Chattanooga and Tennessee by 1.5 games, so Huntsville wins both halves and Tennessee is in as a Wild Card with the next best overall record (even if Chattanooga winds up 2nd this half Tennessee has a better overall record by far).
  3. Yep, I think we can stop worrying about Lee (at least for now).
  4. Even though the college contest has already started it isn't to late to join the party. It is possible to miss a week and still win the overall championship (a couple of years ago I clinched the championship with a week remaining and could have sat out the last week). Even if the overall championship is out of grasp it's still possible to win individual weeks, and I plan to keep a running list of weekly winners (I'll do that on the league message board on Yahoo). Only 8 members so far, so come join the fun.
  5. You never know who can be hiding behind various screen names here. :D
  6. And both of those pitchers went straight into the toilet, which is some consolation. One of them (Jiminez) went right back to the minor leagues after pitching his no-no.
  7. When did we trade them Monroe? :D
  8. I was going to comment on that, but you beat me to it. :D
  9. Jim Edmonds, just because he's Jim Edmonds.
  10. Tennessee, Huntsville, and Chattanooga all win again, so the Southern League North race stays the same. The only way Chattanooga can win the division outright is for them to win their final two games and both Huntsville and Tennessee lose their final two games. Tennessee and Chattanooga could tie if Chattanooga wins both games, Huntsville loses both games, and Tennessee splits. I don't know who'd win the tie-breaker in that scenerio. Either a Huntsville win or a Chattanooga loss eliminates the Lookouts and puts the Smokies in the playoffs.
  11. Actually Parra was hurt even worse than that. He was placed on the 15-day DL with a chip fracture in his thumb.
  12. I've heard rumors about a Top 5 team losing to a Division 1-AA team. But the rumors must be false; that never happens. :D
  13. I said Jenkins simply because he's been a thorn in the Cubs' side for longer than the younger players.
  14. Note who posted right below you in this thread. :D
  15. A regular poster telling a moderator that. Talk about turnabout. :D
  16. He almost did in the game I went to last night. In his last at-bat he took the count to 3-2 after starting out 0-2. He then made an out, though. Isn't it sad that him taking a walk is an event worthy of mention?
  17. The Cardinals' Juan Encarnacion is out for the year with a serious eye injury suffered in last night's game. He was struck by a foul ball and suffered multiple fractures of his left eye socket. The injury is so bad it's considered career-threatening.
  18. Not saying that this is Marmol's future, but the Cubs were saying the same thing about Zambrano when he first came up. -Banghart I still remember the Zambrano vs. Cruz debate from several years ago about which should be a starter and which should be in the bullpen.
  19. Agreed. Teams that lose to 1-AA teams (even if it is the best 1-AA team) don't win national championships.
  20. again, I think your framing the argument to suit your bitch. the only evidence anyone has seen is that Trachsel will get a spot start. there is a vast difference in a spot start v. going with a six man rotation. if it becomes official that they are going to a six man rotation, then bitch away. until then, reserve judgment. Its straight from Lous mouth. fine. how about reserving judgment until you see what is meant by "modified?" Here's my concept of what a "modified" six-man rotation COULD mean (I'm not saying I think it's necessarily what he DOES mean). Start Zambrano, Lilly, and Marquis every time through the rotation since they're veterans, then start Trachsel for Hill one time through and for Marshall another time through to give the younger pitchers a bit of rest. I agree with you that we should see what he does mean before crucifying him.
  21. Former Dodger Brett Butler started the year as manager, but he suffered a mild stroke earlier in the season and was replaced by Williams. I read an article that indicates Butler will recover fine, but it's going to take about six months to fully recover. The stroke was apparently cause by scar tissue left from his throat cancer treatment several years ago (when he was still playing).
  22. no the astros will hit a few more homers.I miss premium. Also, not to say who will get how many runs, but the final score will most certainly prove that it will take at least 3 runs to win this game. Then get a real job. Earn some money. That's uncalled for. Watch it.But him saying his misses premium to ignore people he disagrees with isn't? There's a difference. His implication that he'd like to ignore you is a comment on your posts, not about you personally. Your comments about his employment are personal. Attack the post, not the poster. That's what he did but you didn't do.
  23. I mentioned this elsewhere, but Fox may not be eligible to come back yet. I don't think it's been 10 days since he was sent back down (I believe that was when Monroe was acquired). If the minor league team's season ends before 10 days the player can come back up early, but Iowa's season isn't over yet. Petrick, that's another issue; I'm not sure why he isn't back, unless they think it would be best to shut him down for the year to avoid another injury.

  25. Not when this "awful" (to use your overly hyperbolic term) is in first place. Playoff roster is a VERY relevant topic.
