  1. 30 days hath September, April, June, and November.
  2. Not yet, but I plan to start them this week. The preferences seem to be for straight picks for the pro contest and confidence points for college.
  3. Not really. Patterson was called up during the minor league season, so he lost development time by sitting on the bench in Chicago. By the time Smardz is called up the minor league season will be over, so he won't be missing out on any development time.
  4. So much for my once-promising season. I'm now below .500, in 6th place in the East, and 3 games out of the playoffs with 3 weeks remaining. Oh well, it's still better than my two previous seasons.
  5. Even if it were suspended as opposed to completely made up I still think they'd be eligible.
  6. It's merely a technicality. He can stay on the list as little or as long as he wants. The only catch is that he doesn't get paid while he's on the restricted list. I'd heard of the restricted list before, but I didn't know what it was for. It basically sounds like the difference between paid vs. unpaid leave. I'm sure the Cubs would have left Floyd on the bereavement list if they could, but he's reached the maximum time you can stay on the bereavement list.
  7. Is that the paper that reported Maddux signing with the Yankees shortly before he actually signed with the Cubs? And that Prior was about to have TJS midseason in 2004. I'd forgotten about that one.
  8. Woo-hoo; tied for 31st place!
  9. There could be a DH on one of the two common off-days, or they could wait and schedule it for the day after the end of the regular season if it has a bearing on the playoff race and just cancel it otherwise.
  10. You'd get either a refund or a ticket for another game; I'm not sure which, or if it would be your choice. I'm sure the ticket policy is posted on cubs.com.
  11. This has no effect on options. He's already on the 40-man roster (major league contract) and the option for this year was burned when he was sent down. Once the option is used for the year he can be called up and sent back down an unlimited umber of times, and it still counts as one option. Well anybody on the 40 man can be called up in September and I don't think that affects options IIRC. Right. Calling a player up doesn't burn an option; sending him down does (and that has already been done for this year anyway). Actually that was pointed out in the minor league forum where the same topic is being discussed.

  14. I remember that; I always thought fatigue was a factor in the last-week collapse when the Cubs blew their Wild Card lead. This time it wouldn't be as bad. Even if one of the Cubs' and Cardinals' common days off is used to make up two games as a DH (rather than waiting until the end of the season to see if they're even necessary) there are still three other days off between now and the end of the season. It wouldn't be a good situation, but not a repeat of 2004 either.
  15. 100% chance of rain, possibly heavy. Doesn't look promising.
  16. Horrible, judging from some of the earlier posts in this thread. They'll be lucky to get the game in tomorrow. Yikes. Just what the Cubs don't need: an impromptu doubleheader on a scheduled day off. As others pointed out in this thread an alternative (one I'd prefer) would be to wait until the end of the season and play it the next day if needed. If it has no bearing on the pennant race it could just be cancelled. And even if they get the game in tomorrow they still have that issue to deal with for making up tonight's game.
  17. Not to worry. I'm sure the Cubs could find plenty of medicinal "pick-me-ups" if they happened to make a quick stop in the Giants clubhouse before stopping at the hotel tomorrow night. Only if Barry is in a sharing mood. Actually Neifi might be a better source for this type of help. :D
  18. Horrible, judging from some of the earlier posts in this thread. They'll be lucky to get the game in tomorrow.
  19. Since it isn't an official game it starts over. All stats from tonight's game are wiped out. Basically it's treated as if there wasn't a game tonight.
  20. Because the Cubs have to fly to San Francisco for a game on Tuesday. The weather forecast tomorrow sounds like they'll be lucky to get one in, let alone two, so maybe they decided it sasn't even worth trying it.
  21. And with just a single game tomorrow there's no need to call up a pitcher for an emergency start.
  22. Given the forecast for tomorrow I'm hoping they'll just try to get the regularly scheduled game in and plan on making this game up at the end of the season if it matters. Z's start will still have been wasted, but at least that would avoid the need for an emergency callup because the other starters would still be on normal rest.
  23. cubs.com still shows the game as delayed rather than postponed. For the reasons mentioned in this thread they'll probably wait a long time before calling it and make every effort to at least get an official game in.
  24. It all depends. 1) We are leading at the end of the the Cardinals half of the fifth, we win. 2) We take the lead in our half of the bottom of the fifth, suspended game. 3) We dont make it the fifth and it really dosent matter. The other change is if the game is official but tied. Under the old rules it was declared a tie game (meaning individual statistics count but the game had to be replayed in its entirety). Under the new rules it's suspended and resumed.
  25. If the Cubs lead after 5 (or even 4 1/2) it's over. The new rule relates to the situation where the Cubs lead after the last completed inning, but the Cardinals take the lead in the top of an inning without the Cubs getting their at-bat that inning. Under the old rules the game would have reverted back to the last completed inning, the Cardinals' runs come off the board, and the Cubs win. Under the new rules the Cardinals keep their runs, but the game is suspended and resumed at that point.
