  1. Y'know, I'll take a wild stab that it could be Truffle. :D Actually I wonder if it's badger. I noticed he has Free Soto in his sig.
  2. Marquis just pitched three days ago; he's not going to be able to pitch tonight. It's bullpen time if the game resumes, followed by Lilly and an emergency callup tomorrow. It would have been different if there was an earlier off-day this time through the rotation. The reason I say Marquis is I thought today was his throw day. I hadn't thought of it that way. Maybe he could pitch just a couple of innings (he only went 6 last time anyway) and then get one inning each per reliever.
  3. Not if they're just aiming for 5. You could sneak 2.5 more innings in by midnight :) I really think just getting through 5 is all they'd be hoping for tonight. At least that will have avoided completely wasting Z's start and avoid a double header tomorrow.

  5. Its up to the Cubs, not MLB, until the game begins. It wasn't raining at the time so it would have been really hard to justify them not starting. Actually with this being the last time into town for the Cards, and the season starting into the stretch run, the umpires are more or less under the gun from MLB to play. If this had been back in April, its the Cubs call. Now with looking at having to work around the 20 days in a row max in the BPA its a no brainer looking to get a two hour window they are playing per MLB. That's relevant now once the game has started; it was the Cubs' decision, not the umpires' to try to play the game rather than calling it before it started.
  6. Yep, and the Cubs would have to call up a pitcher for an emergency start since they will have lost Zambrano. :evil:umm... is Gallagher ready? I don't think Gallagher has been down for 10 days yet, so he couldn't be called back up yet.On second thought, if necessary they could have a pitcher develop a phantom "injury" and go on the DL. Then Gallagher could be called up even without being down for 10 days. I've lost track of when his last start was, though, so I'm not sure if he'd be rested enough to go tomorrow.
  7. They really need to or else they're in a pickle. The Cardinals don't play in Chicago any more this year, so if they don't play tonight or tomorrow that means St. Louis would need to come back to Chicago to play a make-up double header on a mutual day off. There are only two mutual days off remaining this season.Didn't the Giants and someone else recently only play 161 games in a season, due to lack of playoff implication? If both games are ppd, and they make up one of them on the 27th and don't have a good date to make up the other, can they not just put it off until the last day of the season and just say forget it if the outcome wouldn't make a difference in the playoff picture? Very true; I hadn't thought about that. Maybe the best thing would be for there to be enough breaks in the rain tomorrow to get one game in, but not both (to avoid the need for an emergency start), then have the Cubs build enough of a margin over second place so the game becomes moot. :D

  11. Better still, give him a start after the Cubs clinch the division so they can rest the regular starters and set the rotation for the playoffs. :D
  12. The only remaining mystery is the identity of FreeSoto.
  13. --From the Star Ledger Maybe they just want him to get exposure to the major league environment. He's already on the 40-man roster and the option clock has already started, so there's nothing to lose by bringing him up when rosters expand. In fact, he's the only player currently on the 40-man who has not yet appeared in the majors. Nitpick; Coats, Mateo, Novoa(though he's been hurt all year) I think he means ever, not just 2007, hence the option clock reference. Reading is fun. Re: Samardzija, seems like a non-issue as long as every other pitcher on the 40 man is coming up. Samardzija as the 15th guy out of the pen isn't going to bother me. But there's no reason to have him up over any of the others. TT is correct; I wasn't referring specifically to this year. Coats and Mateo were both up last year. Also, nitpicking your nitpick, Novoa isn't on the 40-man since he's on the 60-day DL. He is listed on the 40-man on cubs.com, but with a footnote saying he isn't on the 40-man.

  15. I do remember that. How nice he'd look in a Cubs uniform this year.
  16. Thanks; I updated the list.
  17. I believe there was discussion at the time about whether he'd be drafted as a pitcher or a position player. If he were on an AL team he might seriously get consideration for being used as a DH between pitching starts.
  18. I'm not sure Hendry has changed. I think it may be more a case of Dusty likes that type of player but Piniella has this habit of liking players who can actually play.
  19. No he didn't. If Lee was traded to Baltimore then Florida wouldn't have been able to trade him to the Cubs. Lee was traded to Baltimore, the deal was done but Lee and and the club couldn't come to an agreement on a contract extension. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/news/031125lee.html I think we're just debating semantics here, but no, he was not traded to Baltimore. There was an agreement for a trade between the teams, but because Baltimore couldn't work out an extension with Lee the trade didn't actually occur. So he would have been traded pending an event that didn't take place (extension), but that isn't the same thing as actually being traded.
  20. Now that the league is complete, here is a list of the league members and corresponding NSBB screen names, as best as I know. I'd appreciate help filling in the blanks so this can be complete. I know cheapseats has one of the teams, but I don't know which one. The other teams apparently are by people who signed up without posting in this thread. Funfundachtzig (Rocket Sauce) Bring Back the Tank! (MarkPrior) Jack's Beard (Locke's Eye Scar) JimSorgirocks (Jim Sorgi) Demond Bob Sanders (Bob Sanders) lone NSBB Viking fan (PriorPower) FreeSoto (?) The CTs (CT Cubs Fan 38) The Ginn Family (Andy) Wilmo (Wilmo) A Study of Cleats (cheapseats) Hogg Man's Hooligans (bhogg) Rockford Peaches (karenmac) MonstersOfTheMidway (NCCubFan)

  22. Ankiel recovered from Steve Blass Disease. :D
  23. Talking about pitching scores that don't make sense, I had both Marshall and Reyes in my lineup today. Anyone who knows how the game went today would probably conclude that Marshall outpitched Reyes, yet Reyes wound up with slightly over 1.5 more points than Marshall (both were under 10 points).
  24. i think the cubs got the patent first True, but the Brewers bought the patent from the Cubs to use this year. :D
