  1. There's no need for a thread with this tone when callups are already being discussed civilly in other threads.
  2. No. (Meph isn't the only poster that can simply answer "no.") :D
  3. Actually they HAVE been a slouch for several years, but Skip Holtz got them back on track (bowl game) last year.
  4. I think it's a good idea as long as Hendry sticks to his word and uses Trachsel as a safety valve rather than replacing a current starter. If he wins one game for the Cubs as a 6th starter in the St. Louis DH that could make all the difference in the world in a tight race.
  5. He isn't on the 60-day according to cubs.com. If he was there would have been no need to DFA Coats to make room on the 40-man for Monroe (unless he was transferred after that and it just hadn't been announced yet).
  6. Fox may not be eligible to come back yet; I don't recall the date when he was sent down. The normal rule is that you have to wait 10 days to bring a player back up. There's an exception that a player can come back earlier if the minor league team's season ends before 10 days, but even though rosters can expand today Iowa's season isn't over yet, so Fox couldn't come back up under that provision yet.
  7. According to a post in Baseball Discussions Gallagher, Ohman, Cedeno, Patterson, and Soto have been called up. Apparently the plan to keep Gallagher stretched out by pitching in the postseason for Tennessee was deemed no longer necessary due to the Trachsel trade. Gallagher has had quite a journey through the system this year: Tennessee to Chicago to Iowa to Chicago to Iowa to Tennessee to Chicago.
  8. The tentative eligible list includes all players on the 25-man roster or major league DL as of Aug. 31. Teams can select any 25 players from the eligible list, and it doesn't have to be the same 25 players for each round of the postseason. In addition to that, players not on the eligible list but who are in the organization as of Aug. 31 can replace players on the 60-day DL (pitcher for pitcher, position player for position player). Since the Cubs have Prior, Novoa, and Guzman on the 60-day, so they could add up to three pitchers not currently on the 25-man or DL. I believe Trachsel would qualify under this provision, as would pitchers currently in the minor league system (Gallagher, etc.).
  9. Here's another source for some great Harry memories. I read about it on a message board several years ago (I don't remember whether it was here or on cubs.com).
  10. I believe right now the staff is only 11. It is. It dropped to 11 when Pignatiello was sent down to make room for Soriano.
  11. Chattanooga beat West Tenn 6-4 in 13 (Chattanooga scored 4 in the top of the 13th, then West Tenn scored 2 in the bottom). Huntsville beat Birmingham 6-3 in a rain-shortened game (8 innings). Therefore Huntsville still leads the Smokies by 0.5 and Chattanooga by 1.5 with 3 games remaining. The Smokies can clinch a playoff spot today if Huntsville wins and Chattanooga loses.
  12. Two double-digit negative pitching starts in one day (Reyes and Washburn). Meanwhile I have Wandy's strong start against the Cubs on my bench. :x
  13. It must not be a Yahoo league, because Yahoo doesn't allow an uneven number of teams in head-to-head leagues.
  14. I was at the Smokies game at Carolina, although I missed the first inning due to three traffic jams on the way to the game (one due to holiday weekend traffic headed to the coast and two separate accidents). Holliman looked quite good, pitching a shutout through 6. In the 7th he gave up back-to-back home runs leading off the inning to tie the game, but then retired the side before being removed for a pinch hitter. Estrada and Jones then each pitched a shutout inning. Offensively, the Smokies took a 2-0 lead in the 4th on a 2-run dinger by McGehee. In the 9th McGehee walked with one out, then advanced to second on a ground out by Colvin. Salas then hit a 2-out double and McGehee scored the winning run. If West Tenn can beat Chattanooga (they're currently tied 2-2 in extra innings) the Smokies will have all but clinched a playoff spot. Chattanooga would be 2.5 games behind Huntsville with only 3 games remaining, and they'd have to pass both Huntsville and the Smokies in the standings. It's ironic that our former affiliation is in a position to help our current affiliation wrap up a playoff spot.
  15. Quarterback is one position I sometimes carry three of, especially if any of them are young. With other positions a poor performance by one player can be offset by a big game from another, but you only have one quarterback in your lineup, so it's important to get a good performance. Having three QBs gives flexibility to bench a player due to an unfavorable matchup or a slump rather than just having a bye week replacement. I'd carry a third QB over a second kicker any day and twice on Sundays.
  16. How was there an odd number of teams to start with? I thought there had to be an even number of teams in head-to-head leagues for there to be a draft in the first place.
  17. So far I'm a league of 1. I like my chances of winning the league championship. :D
  18. An autographed Scott Eyre rookie card. :D
  19. The transaction was this thread being traded from Transactions to Baseball Discussions for a thread to be named later. :D
  20. I would have done that too, but I don't think walking him was a bad move.
  21. Sounds like a good day for me to take a trip to the booming metropolis of Zebulon, NC. :D
  22. Marmol is definitely having a good season and he's a key part of the Cubs' success. However, there's no way, shape, or form whatsoever in this universe that he gets NL MVP consideration.
  23. Especially after clindhing the division to set the rotation for the playoffs. :D
  24. Probably not much. Low level relief prospect or cash I'd guess. A relief prospect is unlikely. The Reds trade for relievers, not trade them away. :D
