  1. as opposed to "low comedy" if J-Rod gets plunked??? I'm gonna say Eckstein. small, quick, yet highly hittable :D
  2. YES HE DID. AS FAR AS BARRETTS D IS CONCERNED, WHY CANT THE CUBS GET A CATCHING COACH TO WORK WITH HIM ON IT? SEEMS LIKE HS IS LACKING SOME FUNDAMENTALS, AND HE COULD IMPROVE WITH SOME HARD WORK..
  3. so what is out there for the manager's spot this year...Piniella? Mizzaloni(sp)? Are they talking about people (under their breaths)? Or will you have no choice if dirty baker wants to comes back Grady Little, Larry Dieker unfortunetly, DB will more then likely be back...
  4. with the free agent class lacking as it is, and as few good pitchers there are, Demp may get a huge deal to start elsewhere. that would suk, I like him in the role he is now for us. Of course we still got Williamson....
  5. Jermaine Dye is hitting .268/.330/.465 with 21 homers. That's not bad -- and I'll give Corey the benefit of the doubt in saying he can match that, since that's similar to what he did last year. Of course, he could just as easily hit .240 and never take a walk, like this year. You mention that Podsednik hasn't hit a homer. But he's also hitting .280 with a .348 OBP. Even the most optimistic among us can't expect Pie to match that ... he's never even played a game at the major league level. He isn't ready yet. Rowand is hitting a solid .286 with a .337 OBP. Once again, Murton COULD match that, yes. But he also could hit .250 once those infield hits stop piling up quite so much. However, out of these three guys, I think Murton has the best chance for success next year. When you think of a Murton/Pie/Patterson outfield you can't just consider what their ceiling is. (And we've just determined that their ceiling isn't much better than the offensively weak White Sox outfield.) You have to consider the floor as well. That's been the Cubs' philosophy over the past few years: hoping for the best with certain players. And then when anything goes wrong (injuries, bad performance, bad luck) it drives down the team far, far below expectations. Good teams like the Cardinals, Red Sox, Angels and Yankees try to drive their expected wins way up there so they can withstand injuries and misfortunes and still compete. There's absolutely no excuse for a high payroll team like the Cubs to rely on Corey Patterson and two rookies in the outfield. As you said, it COULD work out ... but it's just as likely that it'd be a total disaster. iN THIS SITUATION, I SEE MURTON AS A STOP GAP. I WOULD MUCH RATHER SEE HUFF/GILES/FLOYD W/CPATT AND PIE. I THINK THAT COMBO WOULD BE A GOOD OF FOR THE $$$
  6. 8 pm, ESPN: http://www.littleleague.org/series/2005divisions/llbb/qualify/midwest.htm congrats on your sons team, sounds like they can play!!
  7. that is EXACTLY what I was thinking!!! cool. its on. what time is the game?
  8. Wait a little while, Farnsworth will be one of the best closers in the league. I said a few years ago, if we ever let him go, he would make us pay more than any other player has. I DONT DOUBT THAT IN ATLANTA
  9. HERE i THOUGHT THIS WAS GOING TO BE ABOUT FARNSY MAZZONE....WHAT CAN YOU SAY THAT HASNT ALREADY BEEN SAID?
  10. I SEE YOU ARE FROM THE DAVENPORT AREA (ILLINOIS SIDE OF THE MIGHTY M)...CARE TO WAGER? :D
  11. do you have relatives w/ alzheimers? thats s#$% is noo fun..... It was the closest example I could think of on how I truly feel. It's first hand, yes. I wouldn't use the analogy otherwise. sorry to hear that. and I think you may be right in your analogy.
  12. do you have relatives w/ alzheimers? thats s#$% is noo fun.....
  13. I can cheer that. GODSPEED TO LEE
  14. well then Seattle would have to get Winn back first, now wouldnt they?? seriously though, why eddie fricken G? If I'm trading away that much youth and potential, its for Ryan, Lidge, or Gange in a bigger package...
  15. I still vote for Grudz the girlfriend. I think that's my favorite as well. The bass one is the most bewildering, but the girlfriend one is the best, since he's used variations on it a few times. I actually understood the bass one....
  16. question of the century, well, at least 96 years
  17. I think you are giving up WAY too much for Eddie G when I honestly feel Demp could out pitch him in the closer role.. Eddie is like 35 yrs old...Seattle would have to give me Eddie+Winn just to get one of Cpatt or Cendeno
  18. now from the Minor Leagues forum, Guzman is pitching again. how does HE change the 2006 rotation? Prior Z Wood Williams GUZMAN???? Maddux to the pen??? or do we package Williams for a bat w/maddux in the rotation??
  19. Agreed. Nomar coming to 80% of his form would be a terrific boost, but I think Corey is the more important player. He provides power, defense and speed. Nomar would be a boost more to Lee and Aramis' task of driving in runs, wheras if Corey got going, it would be like having 2 leadoff guys in the lineup. if Corey got going i would be a happy happy pappy
  20. o goody goody goody goody goody goody goody
  21. cool. thanks kind sir. a buddy called and says "Dude, we're in the Series!!" I thought they were talking about the Cubs winning today. he was talking about CP. its still kinda cool considering CP is about 4000 people
  22. I'm not so sure. If Patterson gets on a roll, and Pie hits 260/320, we could afford a Murton in LF. Now if for some crazy reason Sing gets a call up and hits the street running, or Huff is delivered to our doorsteps, we could have a very productive and young OF You want Pie, Patterson, and Murton as your OF next year  ? That's got 4th place written all over it. Sorry, but that would be just terrible. A career dead-ender in RF (cory), a young and not ready CF in Pie, and a AAA player in LF in Murton who will come back to earth (even though he really hasn't flown very high in the first place). That's even worse than what we left camp with this year. Please tell me you were just kidding. I'm not. I dont see Patterson as a "career dead-ender", and for Pie, it might be a jump, but I would accept it. Murton is the iffy part, but as I stated, Huff (or perhaps even Floyd via trade) would make a very nice addition. that would make Pie/Patterson 2/3 of our OF, which you seem terrified of. Yes, I am terrified of that. And frankly, you ought to be as well if you wish to see a successful 2006 season... not at all. I guess my outlook is with the free agent class, Giles is the only real legimate choice we have baring a trade. I wouldnt have a problem with a bat like Giles/Huff/Floyd and Pie/Patterson rounding out the OF. I really wouldnt. I think they could produce at bat and in the Field, well, minus Giles in the field
  23. anyone have any ideas where I can get some info on the LLWS games? I guess the town I live in is playing in the playoffs-Circle Pines, MN
