  1. In order to do a list I would need this to be better defined. I will say Wisconsin wouldn't be very high on my list. They don't have much history and they never get great recruits. They win because of their scheme and Bo Ryan's ability to find guys who fit that scheme. You take that job and you are looking at having to win will less talent every year.
  2. I can't believe this (I may be doing something wrong), but here's what the draft pick value chart that NFL GMs oftentimes use says: Pick #1: 3,000 Pick #5: 1,700 Thus, the Chiefs would have to make up 1,300 points. They could throw in a player or two that the Rams value, but purely on picks they'd be looking at trading this year's 2nd (530), next year's first (same value as this year's 2nd) and this year's 3rd (245). Again, I could be figuring this wrong or they could divert from the chart somewhat, but that's also why the first 1-3 picks very rarely get dealt. Here's the chart. The chart has always been incredibly stupid. GM's either swear by it, which is equivalent to a GM swearing by a pitchers wins, or they swear against it. More and more teams are going away from it due to the monetary value of the top picks. It's pretty widely said now that if the team with the No. 1 pick could find a taker they would trade down every year. No one wants the pick that you got to guarantee $40-50 million to. They would rather trade down to picks 5-10 where you only have to guarantee $20 or so million but get a prospect with a tiny bit less potential. Yeah, once they get the rookie cap in place it'll become more en vogue, but I can't imagine too many still swear by it. I keep hearing a lot do though, so who knows for sure. I think the ones who are at the top swear by it that year and the ones at the bottom don't. They probably flip flop each year depending on where their teams pick is.

  4. Read the directions. It will take however long it takes you to fill out all of that. This is not like the actual committee where we sit an debate. We submit blind ballots and they get added up. It's sort of like a ranking poll that then slots them into the tournament.
  5. I will do it as well. Obviously I will be repping Purdue.
  6. Too bad his technique is average at best. Sure he is a freak athlete but blocking is mostly technique. If he was just getting to college I would make him a TE.
  7. his hands need work? is that sarcasm or some inside joke i don't understand? Maybe I am just remembering a couple big drops but he seemed to have quite a few drops. He's doesn't have horrible hands but from what I remember when he would get flustered he would start dropping passes left and right. I think you're making things up. Did you watch him play a lot? Tate had incredible hands. He pulled in passes that were incredible. One in particular he caught in the USC game this year where he held the ball out away from his body so the defenders couldn't knock it out. His hands are a huge asset. I hope the analysis on your football blog is better than this, but that's frankly ridiculous. I watched just about every ND game he played in. He has a great ability to make the spectacular catch I just remember him dropping some easy catches as well. Like I said maybe I remembering some big drops and thinking that he had more drops than he really did. As far as the blog I don't do it anymore and haven't had almost anytime to research the draft this year so all my knowledge is from what I saw when I watched the games during the season.
  8. Correction: Holliday's time was unofficial. His official 40 time was a 4.34. CJ's record is still intact. Golden Tate ran a 4.36. That ought to help his stock. I hope he doesn't jump into the first. I believe I said in the college football forum that I think he is destined to be a very good pro WR. He just seems to know how to get open. His hands need work but he wasn't a WR until recently so they should improve. I think he is a matchup nightmare though due to speed, agility and power. I would very pleased and hope the 49ers take him in the 2nd but I highly doubt we draft any receivers any higher than round three due to having Davis, Crabtree and Morgan. his hands need work? is that sarcasm or some inside joke i don't understand? 9. Yeah he is ridiculous. Still don't want the 49ers to take him though.
  10. That's a stupid way of breaking down TV revenues. Enlighten me to a better way. This is similar to what people talk about Texas bringing to the TV revenues if they came to the B10. This is why the B10 would be interested in Texas, expanding the B10 network to Texas, a heavily populated state. If Penn State were an indepedant do you think the B10 network would be all that popular in that state and local cable operators would pay for the channel. No. Look at the B10 tv and SEC tv contracts compared to the other conferences and look at the pop difference. Because no one gives a crap about Northwestern football. They have crappy attendance and no one cares to watch their games except the few Northwestern fans that actually exist. Just because they are in Chicago doesn't mean they bring in that market. People in Chicago are mostly Illinois fans with all the other Big ten schools being represented at least as much as Northwestern and probably more in most cases. Iowa may not have a large population compared to other states but almost the entire state of Iowa cares about Hawkeye football. The best comparison would be Nebraska. Iowa is no where near the level of Nebraska but like Nebraska almost the entire state is a fan of the team.

  12. I don't expect it to ever happen but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the union. I could be wrong but the Combine is a separate event that is invitation only and done on a volunteer basis and thus the union has no say in what happens whatsoever. You're probably right, but requiring that drills be done would just decrease attendance at the combine, and the NFL doesn't want the combine to be less relevant. Many GM's and coaches have said that one-on-one interviews tell you the most about prospect. I remember reading one GM last year (it was a long time GM but can't remember who) that he doesn't even watch the drills and allows his scouts to handle all scouting. All he cared about was the interviews. If I remember correctly Polian is one of the big supporters of the interviews. The first few years top prospects may skip the Combine if they are required to do all drills but advisers, agents and athletes would learn that skipping would be a bad idea. I think teams would hold it against the prospect to an extent. It would at the least be a negative and make the teams question the prospect which is all it takes sometimes to drop from No. 1 or from the top 10.
  13. Yeah, if you're going to change the rule, just change it across the board. I'll take what I can get. A change just in playoffs will lead to a change across the board a year or two later.
  14. Very much so to me. Especially after cutting LT, I figured they'd hold onto Sproles. Apparently, though, he wanted a long term deal and they only wanted to give him 1-2 (or 3 tops) years. I figure the Chargers will look running back very early in the draft. or Thomas Jones

  16. Yep and its complete bull. I think they need to require that anyone who wants to attend must do every drill unless they have a legit injury. Every prospect would still go because the interviews are as important as the drills. Also anyone who wasn't injured and skipped all together would probably be looked down upon by teams as someone scared or someone who has something to hide.
  17. I think you guys are misinterpreting what Lee said. He is saying that he is annoyed with the talk that Byrd is the anti-Bradley. That is why he said that if Byrd was white they wouldn't be talking about him being the anti-Bradley. Lee isn't saying that people are writing about how Byrd is like Bradley but that he is the exact opposite of Bradley. I agree that it is annoying but if Byrd was white it would only fuel the anti-Bradley comments because a white outfielder would be even more the opposite of Bradley.
  18. If Dez is still available at 17 there are about 5 GMs that need to be fired. He's a top 10 talent. I think he will fall into the 8-15 range because he will likely put up a somewhat slow 40 time.
  19. The more I think about it the more I like the idea of taking Dez if he is still available at 17. I doubt he is but if he is I would be very happy with the 49ers taking him. We could have Dez and Crabtree out wide and Morgan in the slot.
  20. Hey, Brandon Crawford! OMG. I was looking at that pic for literally 10 minutes last night. I knew I recognized him but couldn't place it. I went through every Big Ten team due to the banners in the back. Judging from his shirt it is at the St. Vincent training center in Indy that is becoming really well known for training different muscles that give athletes a good boost in speed and jumping. It's where Landry trained prior to having the 36" vert at the NBA Camp. He said they are what turned him from a typical post player to an athletic mismatch post player.
  21. Front page of ESPN NFL page photo right now. I'm curious where it was taken due to the Purdue flag above his head. http://a.espncdn.com/photo/2010/0225/nfl_a_combine11_288v.jpg
  22. I was expecting this to be a bumped thread from a year ago.
  23. If he ever learns to not foul he can be dominant in a Dikembe way. He's averaging 1.2 blocks and 2.9 rebounds in just 10 minutes. Apply that to a normal starters 36 minutes and you get 4.32 blocks and 10.44 rebounds. Problem is he averaged 2 fouls in those 10 minutes (plus Memphis doesn't need a C).
  24. Worst part is an ACL injury normally takes 1 year of playing on it before it gets back to 100%. That means Hummel will likely not be nearly as effective next year and probably will be a spot up 3-pt shooter because he won't have the strength to post up and fight for position in the post.
  25. Just to update everyone because I know you all care ... Kevin Martin is now 13 for 42 (.309) since the trade with a -32 +/-. Oh and the Rockets are 0-3 with two of the losses coming against Indiana and New Orleans and all losses by double digits. I get more and more excited about this trade with each passing day.
