  1. If Brian Roberts really wants to move on, he needs to have "The talk" with Angelos, and needs to tell Angelos is time to move on. Roberts knows that if he stays, he's unlikely to be any good, when the O's start their turnaround (perhaps by 2010-2011), and he doesn't want to waste his "prime yrs" playing for a team, likely to finish behind the Rays. ---------- Fred McGriff or Brian Roberts....which situation annoys you more, people?
  2. Agreed. But I'll be more specifically, the Bears have no business drafting a BIG 10 RB at all.
  3. Having the best offense, doesn't guarantee a championship, or the Texas Rangers/Cleveland Indians of the mid to late 90s, would be the dynasty of that decade, and not the Yankees.
  4. To me that sounds like trying to cover up dog turd, with cat turd. Trading Bruce for Blanton, and then signing Lofton does nothing but makes the Reds slightly less mediore. If they wanted a medicore RH, there is Kyle Lohse who is still available. In other words, if I am the Reds GM, I would hold onto Bruce (when the Tigers traded their best CF prospect, Maybing, they got Miguel Cabrera, if the Reds trade their best CF prospect in Bruce---comparable in talent to Maybin--all they ask for is Joe Blanton? Why not offer up Jason Marquis for Bruce right now), because good teams hold onto their best young players, not trade them for medicore veterans.
  5. Maturity sucks. Immaturity is where the fun is.... Oh I get it, you said World PEAce. I get the joke now.
  6. I know the package the O's are asking for from the Cubs ain't exactly the caliber the Rangers got from the Braves for Tex, but even still, the Cubs would be foolish to make that trade. I mean, my word: 1: The Cubs have DeRosa and doesn't NEED to trade for Roberts. 2: There are similar players to Jay Payton that can be had cheaper then what it would take to make this trade happen. I mean, Brady Clark comes to mind (I know, but he would provide the same things that Payton would provide. Or how about Brian Anderson of the White Sox. Blah blah blah. I used to back the Roberts to the Cubs, but considering the prickliness (<----if that is even a word) of the O's, I would till Hendry to finish "tinkeling" with the team, and go to ST with the current group of players. We are not in dire need of Brian Roberts.
  7. I maintain, the Bears should trade down with the 49ers. Get the 9ers 1st and 2nd rd picks. That way, you could get an OL/HB/WR in matter of about 15-20 picks. Not sure if San Fran would be up to it, but I'd like Angelo (who has a history of trading down) to investigate that possibility.
  8. Seriously. Did anyone ever see Vince Young? Ugliest QB in major college history, but also one of the five best college players of all time. Pryor is going to be a QB. THAT is a laughable statement. There is no way Vince Young is considered "one of the five best college players of all time." Myabe since 2000, but all time. Terrelle Pryor may play QB, but he will NOT be any good at it, and he won't have the hype of playing in a NT game like Vince Young had. And just because VY was barely a college/NFL QB (he's like Vick, he's a different position player dressed up like a QB, Vick was a RB, and VY is WR), doesn't mean PSU/OSU/Michigan should fall in that trap. Nick Saban (for point of preference, leave personal opinion about him, for a different thread, for a different day) stop recruiting him, once he had a SUPERIOR QB in Star Jackson in hand. I'm not saying Jackson is a better player, well...nm, yes I am. What gives Pryor the advantage, UNTIL COLLEGE KICKS IN....is that Pryor is a better athlete then Jackson (who is not Bryon Leftwich type athlete by any means), but Star is going to be just that....a STAR QB in college. It's just my opinion, I just think Pryor has higher upside as either a TE or DE. I just see no upside to him as a QB. I just believe his athlethicism is better suited for DE/TE, and he would make a LOT more money, because as a QB, he's likely a 3rd rd caliber player as a QB.
  9. All kidding aside, reds44, but Johnny Baker is a personable, and charming guy. You'd like the guy, there is no way you can dislike the human. But it's when he changes into his alter ego DUSTY BAKER, MANAGER That makes you question his abilities as a manager. And Dusty---like most old-school managers---loves his veterans players. The problem is...the vets he loves, have no redeemable MLB talent whatsoever. All I can is....you better hope Votto/Bruce/Bailey SHOW in Spring Training that they are significantly better then there veteran counterparts, cause if they don't, I guarantee ya, all three will be AAA for atleast half the season, if not till September.
  10. Lots were clamoring for Theriot when Izturis was the other option. Theriot was a better choice than Izturis. That doesn't mean SS isn't a hole for the Cubs. Yeah, Riot was a much better option than Izzy. However, that doesn't exactly say how good he is. He's average at best. We could get by with him at SS, but an upgrade is entirely possible. I don't want to get by with him. I distinctly remember people wanting Theriot, but I also remember us dropping games and losing ground with Izzy @ SS, and since Theriot is better than him, I see no contradiction between wanting him then and wanting him replaced now. BTW--I think folks would generally be alright with Ryan as a bench player. He can play 2B + SS in a pinch, at least give someone else a rest. I'd love Theriot as a bench player. I'd love Theriot more if he leaves the Cubs, becomes Skip Bertman's choice for coach at LSU.....sorry Vance.....
  11. Awwww man, now we have to wait on the Roberts deal, because Hendry's malt liquor has to have it's day in the sun. (I know, I know, those kind of jokes are becoming lame, bu.....t, I invented lame. I am the Master of Lameness.)
  12. And Jose Macias, and Neifi Perez, etc.... OBP to Dusty is an old rap song by Naughty by Nature Nah....OBP---to Baker---means Off-Base, Please.
  13. Hopefully this time we'll get someone better than freddy bynum. Hey, the Cubs did correct that mistake and turn Boom Boom into Kevin Hart.
  14. Dusty Baker should really give up this "managerial" thing, and try his hands at COMEDY. I mean, he would kill as a comedian...... Oh wait......he was being serious with those quotes.....? :-k Even better, he can be the "point" man in a comedy duet.
  15. (aw,,,,crap, now I have to go "tinkeling.")
  16. First off, your math is pretty bad (2003-1945 = 58 years). He also mortgaged the team's future for that one playoff run and crippled the Cubs going forward. Oh, and he's an awful manager. But yeah, we're sad. OH I'M SORRY. He took the Cubs the deepest into the playoffs in 58 years, and won their first playoff series in 100 years. My bad. He didn't cause Alou, Lofton, Sosa, Karros to be old and Alex Gonzalez to be bad. Kerry Wood was doomed to get hurt. Prior? Hopefully he learned his lesson, lol. Yeah....but He did that in his first yr. The NEXT 3 will considerable disappoingting, including 04 in which DUSTY BAKER kept putting a square (Hawkins) in a circle (closer's role) and he blew a late something game lead and lost the wild card, to the Astros. And going back to 2003: had Baker gone out to the mound after Alou's hissy fit, and told Prior to forget what just happen, and refocus, then the Cubs would have gone to the World Series. You can bank on one thing....Bruce, Votto, Bailey, will get shots, but will also be on short leashes, or will start in the minors. Baker has NO USED for youngersters, even if they have talent. You can try and spin the value of Baker, but when your pitchers begin to hit the DL with a vengence, then you will see what we are talking about.
  17. They are going to let him go. No need to pay a SECOND #2 WR, #1 WR money. And pray that Bradley and/or Davis and/or Hester steps up and breaksout, along with hoping to grab a nice WR prospect in the draft, sans DJ Hall of Alabama. (Think David Terrell, when thinking about DJ Hall).
  18. Since 2005, Michigan has recruited 3 QB...Ryan Mallet, David Cone, and Jason Forcier. That can't be good. And what's worse it seems like they put all of their eggs in their basket for Terrelle Pryor, who may not even got to Michigan. There is not a distinguishable QB on Michigan's roster (unless someone familiar with Michigan football can fillme in), so they better hope they land Pryor, or they are looking at a LONG...Notre Dame type season. BTB, even if they land Pryor, I believe Pryor will end at either DE or TE/WR before he leaves college. He just doens't look naturally as a QB. My guess.....David Cone????
  19. Let's make it easy.....who do YOU think has more acess to what the Cubs are thinking....OH "sources", Ken Rosenthal, or Bruce Miles? To me it's easy.....unlike OH "sources" and Rosenthal, Miles is pretty straight forward kind of journalist. I would say believe Miles, who has ties to the Cubs, over anybody else.
  20. That is what I was thinking. But with the way this offfseason has gone for Rosenthal, he's become the new Peter Gammons...
  21. IDK if I should be impressed, or ask her out.....oh wait........ THAT'S A DUDE..... (Grabs a bottle of Jack and downs it.)
  22. His 2007 line against lefties of .225/.269/.494 is downright awful. And there's one less lefty in that division this week (Santana). I think the Tigers will come out of this okay. I didn't say the Tigers didn't do alright with this signing, I just said, Granderson now needs to hit lefties at a better clip, to be worth the money he's getting. When your lead off CF is hitting 84 XBH's per season and posting a 136 OPS+, who cares how well or bad he hits lefties? I just like my stud players to be able to handle lefties as well as righties.
  23. Nah---uh....VR Troopers...
