  1. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/1372863,CST-SPT-afcside12.article Byron Leftwich a Bear? I mean he is the Black version of Drew Bledsoe, for the good and bad. If the Bears are considering Leftwich in the offseason, then they BETTER upgrade the offensive line (Jordan Gross, come on down for starters). I know upgrading the OL should be a priority anyways, but if you are going to bring in Leftwich, you better be aggressive in upgrading the OL.
  2. I'm glad he's coming back. My team is building up a very big, very fast, very smart defense, and now a very versatile defense, that winning another championship for Florida is no guarantee. If I had some, I would put money on LSU/Alabama ending Tebow's dream of another championship in the SEC Championship.
  3. Vance, I hate to admit this, but I really like LSU's class, especially Chris Davenport. He will be a stud (he try to recruit Danny Lee Jesus Fluker to LSU, after watching Fluker dominate Okafor at practice during the Army AA week). To me, Russell Shepard is an interesting case...in some ways he is VERY MUCH like Ryan Perrilloux in that he has a big talent along with a big mouth (RP's 4 Heisman Trophy comment .v. RS's going to beat out Jefferson comment) but then again that is the age old battle between confidence and cockiness. We'll see which road RS takes from here on it. Like I said, I really like Chris Davenport. NOT to try promote my team, but LSU is getting one helluva fight for Randle and perhaps even Janzen Jackson from Alabama. Now I do ***expect both to end up at LSU***, but if there is a coach to land Rueben Randle it is everyody favorite villian. But again, I expect Randle and Jackson at LSU. I also think getting Shepard's cousin Loston is a coup for Less Miles. Ultimately, in three yrs, I think LSU fan's will look back and agree that Chris Davenport will be the best player out of this class even over Randle, Loston, Shepard, and Jackson. With that said, LSU/Bama/Florida is having a battle for best class in the SEC, in that order.
  4. I want to see him make adjustments and fail, before I make that statement. I still believe Fuku can be a productive player for the Cubs.
  5. I see Lowe to Atl, and Sheets perhaps replacing RJ in Arizona.
  6. IMO, that is way too much for perhaps a pitcher who grossly underachieved last yr. No way do Seattle recoup the prospects they gave up.
  7. I know that is pathethic. I hope Paxson is "proud" of the team he has built. Because this team would struggle to win games in the NBDL.
  8. Then why did Boston sign him? Short answer, it's what teams do. Boston thinks Saito has something left, and if they can keep him healthy, IMO which could be doutful, he could provide an upgrade over what they got currently in the bullpen. This is simillar to the Cubs signing Chad Fox, the difference, Saito when healthy is actually.....you know....good.
  9. If the Dodgers are dumb enough to have Shawn Estes on their roster come opening day, then Estes tour of the NL West will be complete. Dumb fact, but hey that's about the only think positive you can say about signing Estes.
  10. Hawks are looking awful, IMO. They need to pick it up.
  11. Come on now...Warren Sapp was one of the best DT's to ever come out of college and fell in the draft because he like to smoke some weed. I'm pretty sure Sapp would have been great in any situation. Tommie Harris is no Warren Sapp (maybe the best DT ever), but he's pretty good. Maybe Marinelli can get him back to that level. If nothing else, it's worth the shot. To be fair, when Tommie playing like he did the last couple of yrs, he is as close to be Warren Sapp as anybody in the NFL. It is so fun to watch Tommie at full peak, because talent wise, he equals Warren Sapp. The difference to me between the two is/was focus. Is Marinelli can get Tommie to focus on every play, I think the Bears defense improves two fold.
  12. First: About you "taking the word of scouts who have Rasmus as a top 10 prospect in the game" be fore warned, being a Top 10 prospect today, don't mean crap. Joe Borchard was once considered a Top 10 prospect. Hell even the Padres version of Brett Wallace, Sean Burroughs was a Top 10 prospect. And even Corey Patterson was considered a Top 10 prospect. So spare us this crap. Highly touted prospects today, don't mean squat tomorrow. Second: You're right the Cubs "young core" isn't strong, but the Cubs are not exactly old man river of a team. The Cubs are built to win for the foresseible future, unlike the Cards. The Cubs know what they are going to get from their team and make adjustments, the Cards and Reds are basing their future's on potential. The problem with that is....yes you have the potential to be great, but also you have equal chance that your "prospects" can set you back a few yrs. Third: The Cubs future isn't as bleak as you think. Within the next 3-5 yrs, ARam/Lee/Harden/Lilly/Bradley and Fukudome contracts will be up, and I believe the Cubs system be alot better then than it is now. Not to mention the Cubs will free up money to fill in holes by then. So as much as you think the Cubs future is looking bad, I think the Cards and the Reds are looking worse, because neither team young players have shown they can play for a full season in the majors.
  13. I have that feeling about Johnson too, but he maybe has the most talent at his position. That'd be hard to pass up. Part of me is hoping he's off the board, because I think Everette Brown can really be a Freeney like pass rusher. If Tommy Harris can rediscovered his Pro-Bowl talent, then taking a guy like Michael Johnson would be a great move, but if Tommy continues to play like he did in 2008, then IMO it is too much of a risk to pick Michael Johnson.
  14. I read they were looking into signing Lowe That, and didn't the Peavy to the Braves didn't work out because the Braves would not guarantee a new no trade clause? At this point, the Braves are out of it for Peavy, and it wouldn't surprise me if they do sign Derek Lowe.
  15. He's a beast for a safety though...It'll almost be hard not to move him to LB At already 6'3 and 230lbs (if you believe his listed weight) he's already pushing the limit on being a safety. I wish I could share your certaintly, but it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up at LBer within two yrs.
  16. Well 2nd or 3rd round though, but give me Taylor Mays if we can trade up I would love to get Mays, but my concern is his size....will he be a long term S or a LBer? He's huge for a S...Who knows he could pull an Urlacher If Mays can stay at his current he will become a monster of a S, but if his long-term projections has him at LBer, I much rather draft a legit LBer like Aaron Curry or James Laurinaitis. Which reminds, I do think the Bears need to seriously considering drafting Urlacher's eventual replacement. it doesn't have to be this yr, but within 2 yrs they will need to.
  17. Well 2nd or 3rd round though, but give me Taylor Mays if we can trade up I would love to get Mays, but my concern is his size....will he be a long term S or a LBer?
  18. I much rather sign Joe Biemel and move Sean Marshall to the ortation then sign the "new Jason Marquis."
  19. That and the fact that Hendry has shown no willingness to even ask Lee to waive his NTC, much less entertain offers. So any talk of moving Lee is pretty much moot.
  20. Is there goalie that bad? 13-1 in the two games? in the season series, I think I read the Hawks outscore the Yotes 20-4. So yeah, IMO, the Yote have no goaltending when it comes to the Hawka.
  21. The only problem I have with Oliver Perez is that he seems to be very similar to Jason Marquis, in that they both have the ability to take the ball every 5th day and give the club a chance to win. That don't always bring it. Not to mention like Marquis, Perez seems to have that one inning---you know it's coming---that he can go from looking real good to looking very mediocre. To be fair, I much rather keep Lilly for another yr, let him put up another better then league average performance and then moved him after the season.
  22. If I remember correctly, Warner wasn't all that great in his one yr stint with the Giants. So I agree, unless the Bears bring Fitz and Bolden with Warner and perhaps the Vikings or Eagles OL, then making Warner a priority is like giving Verne Troyer keys to a HumVee.
  23. God save the any ump soul who is brave enough to make a bad call to which both Lou and Milton are furious about.
  24. The don't have any bearing on the conversation, but should be stated out of pure tongue in cheek, but ain't it great to have #21 back in RF again? With that said, this deal is clearly high risk/high reward feel to it. I am hoping that spending a majority of 2008 as a DH, allowed Milton Bradley to stay healthy. I know it is too much to ask for and expect, but here to Milton Bradley having a MONOPOLY on RF during his stay in Chicago. Yeah, I went there............as the old commerical once said, "It ain't easy, being cheesy." With that said, here's to Milton Bradley staying healthy.
