  1. I don't understand why he didn't make the justification that half of the posts that are made are meant in jest and for humor's sake. He was treating it like the writers there are good journalists. I don't read these blogs for their incredible analysis or input or up-to-date news information, I read them because they make me laugh and they poke fun at sports
  2. 2.7 runs per game. not 5. /pet peeve Apr 7th - 3.2 IP 5ER Apr 12th - 4.1 IP 5ER Apr 17th - 6 IP 5ER He's been good of late, but when he had 3 consecutive starts giving up 5 runs and looking like the worst pitcher on our staff, no one gave him any crap about it. That's what I meant by "was", that three game stretch of nonsense (4 game nonsense if you count his 4ER opener) I threw it out there because he got pulled after walking in a run, even though Lou felt like he gave up a 10-run solo home run. I also stated... So it was a hypothetical. They could've left him in and saw what happened, let him get out of the trouble. But they pulled him and left 8.1 innings of the game up to the bullpen? That's dumb. The Cubs have the bats to put up a few runs and make a comeback if he gave up a couple more, this wasn't the 8th inning or anything. It was a stupid move. Regardless of all that, take the 1ER from last night away and then look at his numbers. They're still not bad. I understand he's got control problems right now, and he needs to work on that, but he's also not giving up that many runs either, but you would think the Cubs are looking at him like he's the antichrist
  3. Because he's walked 18 guys in 19 innings. Carlos Zambrano walked 19 guys in 5 starts to begin the year last year and gave up 21 earned runs in the process, but they never talked about skipping his rotation spot or putting him in the pen. Maybe I'm just baffled that they can sit there and think Rich Hill is truly the biggest question mark on the pitching staff when Ted Lilly was busy giving up 5 runs a game and not taking any heat for it
  4. I think Lou might be a little steamed and will cool down tomorrow. Yeah, Rich was awful out of the gate tonight, but he only gave up one run. To pull your starter after 2/3 of an inning because he walked 4 guys is a little preemptive. At least see if he can get out of it and then get it together the next few innings. Taking him out was stupid because it burned up the bullpen pretty hard. He gave up 4 walks, not 4 runs. So now Rich Hill has officially given up ER's of 2, 3, 1, 2, and 1 in his 5 starts. Perhaps he would've given up more tonight, maybe not, either way.............. WHY ARE THEY SO F-BOMBING CONCERNED ABOUT RICH HILL?
  5. Although Pat Burrell may be another case of "Contract Year Superstar". Plus Pat Burrel is hitting like he was the second half of last season, so maybe it's not a fluke, and just a continuation of his dominance he showed the last half of last season? However I agree that McCann for Burrell may not be enough. While Burrell is hot, so is McCann, and McCann is doing it at a position where very few will be offensively productive and Burrell is doing it at the deepest production spot in FB. Maybe ask for one more player who can help you in a certain category, or ask for a better player than Burrell
  6. Please, pretty please, with a cherry on top... don't ever say "He gawn" on this board again. Reading it makes my head hurt more than hearing it
  7. I know people hate ESPN, but when BBTN had the lineup up Ravech, Reynolds, Kruk, and Phillips, it was entertaining to watch because they almost always disagreed with each other and they made a lot of funny one-liners and allusions to their past failures as baseball players/managers And honestly, who watches BBTN for the analysis? Everyone knows they're not that good, but me personally I watch it for the highlights. But yeah, the current rotation sucks. I hate it when an ex-position player gives pitching analysis. Then again, I'm fairly certain all their analysis is written for them. How the hell is Eduardo Perez supposed to know about pitching release slots and control issues related to foot placement and other intricate pitching analysis?
  8. This is why I think Smoltz is awesome. He's not a primadonna who thinks he should be a starter all the time, he knows when to take it slow and when to capitalize on his own health, and he knows what he feels will be best for the team. He feels he shouldn't start because he might further hamper his ability, thus making the Braves miss his talents more. He's smart, and not some cocky pitcher who wants to be in the spotlight
  9. He doesn't know our history? He's dead to me
  10. Really? I don't see it. This was awkward to watch
  11. Baseball Prospectus doesn't think Hafner will make a comeback this year, FWIW. I think he was pegged for around 27 home runs this year, and he's going to tail off in production from here on out. Soto is arguably a Top 3 offensive catcher, in the entire major leagues, right now and perhaps through the rest of the season (McCann and V-Mart being the others, and you already got V-Mart). Holliday will be Matt Holliday and likely rake in Coors and put up similar numbers to last year. I say no, based on Hafner's likely down season, and Soto's projected greatness out of a tough offensive position. That and if you DID do that deal, you'd have to drop a player since you're taking on one more in trade. Also keep in mind that while HR and RBi have been your biggest concern right now, it will get better. Ryan Howard will probably end up with 45 home runs or more again, and A-Ram is already hitting the ball well. You might want to shop around Victor Martinez for a upgrade in your outfield. Victor is a great hitter, but his power numbers are down big time so far thus year, but he's still a top offensive catcher and should likely draw big interest from someone who has no decent catcher I'd shop around
  12. I was going to post "I wish Meph was here to end this debate", but instead I went and searched for the post he made on the Brian Roberts thread that made me a believer... Keep in mind this was posted in December
  13. How do you have sex with your own ankle?
  14. My vote goes to Zito's as well, Mike Hampton is getting paid to sit on the DL and not contribute. His team's success/failure is ultimately determined by the players who play that day, not him Zito is getting paid to suck, and and suck bad. His team's success/failure is partially credited to him. Hampton getting paid to sit on the DL doing pocketbook damage vs. Zito getting paid (more) to lose games and give up a lot of runs AND doing pocketbook damage? Zito
  15. Movement, spots it well, velo? Rising FBs are a myth, but to the naked eye, that thing just takes off. Could I hit it? :pig: Yep, they just go down slower than other fastballs. I really enjoy watching somebody throw a fastball like that. I'd hit it
  16. Was just about to post this. It's stuff like this that makes me feel bad for Giants fans. It's probably a move they didn't want in the first place, and now they have to deal with it for several years, because their GM is a looney toon
  17. So what this is saying is Clemens started to cheat on his wife with her when she was 15 years old? So that would make Clemens, by law, a statutory rapist? Awesome. Can we refer to him as Statch from now on?
  18. Aaaaaaand good bye Francisco Liriano
  19. If Thomas starts slugging again I can definitely see the A's putting Cust or Sweeney on the market
  20. http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3363255 Some of the numbers put in there are depressing. Actually a decent read though EDIT: But some of the numbers used to describe this season are inspiring
  21. I have them both on my team in one league. But if I had to choose, Upton, easily. For starters, he has huge potential, and the fact that he's already showing it this early in the season (and his career) can only mean he's going to get better. Jackson has had years to live up to his potential and is only now starting to hit like they expected him to. It could be fluky, it could be the real deal. Jackson was never considered the best prospect in baseball though, Upton was, just last year I believe, and he's already coming as advertised.
  22. There was someone in one of the NSBB leagues last year who did that to no end, and to me especially. They wanted Roy Oswalt and kept offering me crap they just picked up, like David Dejesus and players like that coupled with a good player I didn't need. Don't mean to alienate anyone on here, since it was a trade in an NSBB league, but someone offered me Adam Jones and Jeremy Bonderman for Conor Jackson. I wasn't about to trade one of the hottest hitters in baseball for an unproven rookie and a below average pitcher. I need pitching, but not at the expense of my currently best hitter, and not someone who will arguably make my pitching worse.
  23. You think they would've realized this when it happened. Is it possible he could've broken it after he rolled it, I can't imagine why they wouldn't notice it on the X-Rays after it happened a couple weeks ago.
  24. Don't tell them that. DBacks fans will tell you that theirs is the toughest division. Ah yes, home of the 5-team division with 4 teams below .500. Of course I'm embellishing a bit due to the early season, but from a winning % perspective, the NL West is technically the worst division in baseball right now
  25. 5/3 @ 8pm Sure is, thank you. Just set it up to record. I can't set mine to record that far ahead b/c it has No Data for that day yet. OMG you're dvrr is lam0rz 4 rilz. Well at least you can get the preemptive strike on it when it shows up
