I'm still befuddled as to how he managed to be on a starting rotation each year he was in the big leagues and not be a AAA lifer... you'd think there'd be much better minor league options than Steve Trachsel, but apparently not. I feel bad for NY and the $24 million he swindled from them over 7 years there

You mean a guy capable of being a 5 tool 30-30 athlete. Corey Patterson is capable of being a 5 tool 30-30 athlete, but hasnt shown any signs that its going to happen any time soon. Mine was sarcasm. Each year I read somewhere about Rickie Weeks having this mysterious 5-tool skillset and 30-30 talent that he has never ever ever ever ever shown

Hey San Diego: Mendoza five! *snap*

    Insert overused "300" joke

Sean: Hey Jim, you were really impressive in center field today Jim: Thanks, you were really impressive in the shower. You know, dong wise.

Clearly it hurts them because they're now missing out on a 5-tool 30-30 athlete

For some strange reason I thought this thread was going to be about Bob Hamelin

I like how he refers to him by his full name. I think the world would be a much funnier place if everyone referred to each other by their first and last name

I still can't believe he said that. It sounds like Jocketty kept telling him "No" when he was asked to bring Corey back and this was his immature little 8-year old response. I can picture Dusty clenching his fists and pounding a table with ice cream spilled on his shirt

Just curious why he has the d-bag label. I don't doubt it, as he has the haircut to confirm it, but seriously. Did he insult some fans or something?

As Boston sweeps the series. Hey, if you can't beat 'em, beat 'em

If Hill could get his control problems, uh... under control... then we could boot Marquis from the rotation. That'd be delightful.

Kind makes me feel bad for Koyie Hill. It hyped him up as one of the key to Soto's success, and even he says he played a big role, and then Soto is like "No, not really. But Henry Blanco is the bomb!"

Bob Brenly's speech tone, vernacular, demeanor, attitude, and by all means his appearance reminds me exactly of my Dad. And I love my Dad. Brenly.

Must've been a favor to Bob. Maybe he'll will be our team's Mike Piazza. It's the same exact story line. Young catcher picked by team as a favor in the late rounds... blossoms into Hall of Famer. Drink the Kool-Aid

I love the new Rays... Effin A, Cotton

Who needs Matt Wieters when you have this dapper gentleman behind the dish? http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/images/2006/03/17/NvdExj6W.jpg

    Great catch

Not great immediately, but I think he'll be pretty good. This thinking led me to draft Francisco Liriano in the first 8 rounds of two fantasy drafts this year. Smart pick, TT (me too). +1. But at least you guys didn't spend a lot of money buying and trading for his baseball cards in anticipation of supreme dominance, thus spiking his cards value up big time

I can't imagine they'd trade Salty for some prospects after trading Teixeira for him. He's MLB ready right now, I don't see why they would trade Teixeira for a guy who can play and contribute right now, and then deal that guy for a someone who won't be able to contribute for another couple years or so. Like shnsajax said, Maximiliano Ramirez (awesome name) will probably be dealt before Salty.

Admittedly, I don't know anything about the draft class, and while I would've preferred to see a position player drafted, after reading about this guy it sounds like he may be a potential SP candidate who can be very good, or a Carlos Marmol like reliever. I can live with that.

Perhaps just for funsies there should be a "What's gotten into the Mariners?" thread so we can see just how much worse they can actually do
