  1. I'm dying to make my picks, where oh where is the thread?
  2. I went with Fielder, Crawford, and Hernandez. I'll get a 1st and 2nd rounder while maintaining my 1st and 2nd round picks and also getting a Top 5 round pitcher in the 9th. The only way I justified not keeping someone like Hamels or Feliz was that he probably won't go until the middle rounds anyways, also they were trades and free agent pickups, we have a rule where if you trade for or pick up a FA you can only keep them for two more years beyond the year you picked them up, and then they are released into the draft pool. But if you draft them in the 15th round, you can keep them for another 7 years....... Like I said, complicated keeper rules, would take too long to explain.
  3. Why has this thread reached 5 pages?
  4. Kentucky Violated NCAA Rules While Recruiting Basketball-Playing Dog
  5. Just thought I'd pass along this info. Onbviously not for everyone but figured I'd post it here anyways. If anyone here is neaer the Mobile, AL area, you may want to consider attending the Mobile BayBears opening night, as it will feature the grand opening of the Hank Aaron Childhood Home & Museum. They lifted Aaron's childhood home and moved it onto the BayBears' premises and renovated and restored it and turned it into a museum . It's pretty cool, but if you're an autograph hound you may want to attend for that alone, as the following people will be in attendance for the event: Hank Aaron Willie Mays Rickey Henderson Bruce Sutter Ozzie Smith Bob Feller Bud Selig (whooptie doo) It will be April 14th. Thought I'd pass along the info to anyone near the areai f you're interested in trying to obtain any autographs of some pretty notable people.
  6. I was pulling for Guillen, personally
  7. Whenever he makes it up to the big leagues, if he proves to be everything we were anticipating I think the Cubs should consider signing him to one of those team friendly deals like the Rays gave Evan Longoria that buys out all his arbitration years and his first year or two of free agency. That sure would be keen
  8. I'm in a keeper league with unique keeper rules. Long story short, I can keep 3 players. This is the list of players I can keep, and next to them is the draft round pick I would relinquish if I choose to keep that player... Asdrubal Cabrera (Cle - 2B,SS) (9th Round) Carl Crawford (TB - OF) (4th Round) Nelson Cruz (Tex - OF) (7th Round) Prince Fielder (Mil - 1B) (3rd Round) Adam Jones (Bal - OF) (11th Round) Matt LaPorta (Cle - 1B,OF) (25th Round) Derrek Lee (ChC - 1B) (2nd Round) Geovany Soto (ChC - C) (14th Round) Troy Tulowitzki (Col - SS) (1st round) Matt Wieters (Bal - C) (7th Round) Andrew Bailey (Oak - RP) (4th Round) Heath Bell (SD - RP) (6th Round) Chad Billingsley (LAD - SP) (2nd Round) Jonathan Broxton (LAD - RP) (8th Round) Neftali Feliz (Tex - SP,RP) (23rd Round) Yovani Gallardo (Mil - SP) (10th Round) Luke Gregerson (SD - RP) (25th Round) Cole Hamels (Phi - SP) (22nd Round) Félix Hernández (Sea - SP) (9th Round) Edwin Jackson (Ari - SP) (10th Round) Jair Jurrjens (Atl - SP) (4th Round) Carlos Mármol (ChC - RP) (12th Round) Randy Wells (ChC - SP,RP) (12th Round) I know for a fact I'll be keeping Felix Hernandez, that's a no brainer. What's difficult is deciding the other two players... there are some that seem like no brainers, but I need to take other things into consideration. It's a 10 team league and I have the 10th pick, so I have the last/first pick combo. I was thinking Gallardo, Hernandez, and Feliz... but then I thought being able to keep Matt Laporta with the very last pick might not be a bad idea. Or Hamels at 22nd round. Or Craford and Fielder with 3rd and 4th, when they will both likely go in the 1st and 2nd could be wise... Again, odd rules, too long to explain. Advice?
  9. This is magnificent, thanks for the share
  10. I've never purchased a draft guide before (unless you count BP a draft guide). What are the benefits of having a draft guide versus basic internet research? Is it sort of like a program that will analyze your team and suggest what player you should pick next or something? Or is it just information you can easily gather on your own?
  11. It's not that he's putting up eye popping numbers, it's that he's putting up very respectable numbers at an age and level he has no right putting up very respectable numbers at, while playing defense at an above average MLB level. If you drop him back down to an age appropriate level he's gonna rake, but no matter what level they play him at he holds his own, and this was when he was still a teenager. It's his ability to hang in an upper level at such a young age that makes him our top prospect. Vitters might have more of an offensive impact earlier than Castro, but given Castro's age, position, and defensive prowess it makes Castro far more valuable, and as such our top prospect
  12. lol, hadn't heard of this one before... couldn't be bad I guess They routinely have these at summer outdoor concert festivals. They are the most glorious thing ever when the weather is blazing hot. if/when they add those they will be extremely popular in the summer time
  13. My brother wouldn't shut up yesterday about how he saw on ESPN that the Cubs were looking into trading to get Kerry Wood back. I haven't seen anything regarding such a move, is there any truth to it, or is my brother just being an ignorant idiot again?
  14. Color me slightly shocked that they're not gonna start him in AA. I know he held his own there last year, but that was a rather small sampling. Either way I'm pleased he's shown enough poise that the team has faith in him to start the season at the highest level he can get to in the minors
  15. I might be with a group of friends. We've talked about it extensively.
  16. Wasn't worthy of starting a new thread for it, so figured I'd post here... I bought the 2010 BP book today and found this line to be hilarious...
  17. +1. Little league, I was so young and naive at the time I didn't think anyone could do anything other than throw fast. When he threw the curve I ducked out of the batters box for dear life. Didn't help that he also was the hardest thrower in the league.
  18. As someone who grew up in Bradenton and had several high school friends move onto Manatee Community College, that made me laugh pretty hard. Well played, sir.
  19. I'm always excited to see good young players come up to the bigs, regardless of what team they're playing for. Alvarez is going to be awesome to watch, and personally I'm a pretty big fan of Tim Alderson. Can't believe the Giants traded him for Freddy Sanchez.
  20. Is Carlos Pena's defense laughable? His bat would be nice to have for a year or two but no one seems to be interested in him. I'm guessing his defense is terrible? Also, I would really really really like it if they can get Ramirez to waive his NTC, assuming the Cubs are out of it and aren't contending. It would then be nice to see if he would agree to his extension with a team he's traded to, giving the Cubs a top notch 3B they can trade to a team who will have control over him for two more years. That's a big if though, but it would be nice. Ramirez would make a hell of a bargaining chip to help replenish our farm system a bit more... though knowing Hendry he'd trade him for a lefty outfielder and a reliever or 5.
  21. For what it's worth ESPN is starting a new blog called "The Max Info" which is geared toward sabermetrics. In their words: Corny ass title, but it's nice to see ESPN take a step in the right direction.
  22. When I saw this thumbnail I thought "Who the eff is that?" http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/09AH6wG3QG9jm/610x.jpg Then I clicked on it and completely and utterly forgot we signed Xavier Nady
  23. For the longest time I thought Donald Veal was white. It happens, especially when you don't really get to see theirfaces (provided you're too lazy to check the website and look at their bios like I, and apparently a lot of people, am). That being said, Brett Jackson looks like John Krasinkski
