  1. I'd like to know the same. Every time I want to look up league leaders I have to use ESPN or Yahoo or something like that. I hate how when you click "Leaders" you can only choose by one category and it only gives you the #1 player for that category each year. Unless I'm blind and I'm missing something, I'd love it if BR had a complete list of all players' stats in one convenient table year-by-year. Seems like they can only go by team or player at this point, not by a combined list of all players in the league.
  2. Wallace is a big guy, but Decker...well... http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/56/560514.jpg I'd love to see an outfield of Jaff Decker, Kyle Blanks, and out of shape Andruw Jones.
  3. They have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball if not the best and they have Jason Heyward who is going to be a star. Well, outside of Freddie Freeman I can't really think of many other offensive threats besides Heyward in their system. They've got a couple pitchers in the wings who are supposed to be good... Arodys Vizcaino and another guy... forgot his name though. Outside of those guys (and maybe one or two others I'm forgetting) I think the drop off is pretty steep
  4. It's amazing what being able to pitch 30+ games a year can do for your career. The guy shouldn't even be able to touch a baseball yet he always finds a team to pitch for who is desperate for an innings eater. He has started an impressive 95 games and thrown 568 IP over the last 3 years. It's like teams choose to focus on that while ignoring his 5.45 ERA and 1.60 WHIP. You could probably find a AAA starter or two to cycle out who are fringe at best to fill the same role
  5. Denard Span for David Price? Really? Is there a 2011 draft pick involved here?
  6. saito wasn't nearly as good last season as he was his first 3 seasons. he had a 1.35 WHIP last season He was pitching in the "toughest division in baseball" and still managed to do pretty damn good, WHIP aside. Saito is a good arm to have in the bullpen for Atlanta setting up Wagner.
  7. Well... Jurrjens, Hanson, a healthy Tim Hudson is a nice 1-2-3. They also got Heyward coming up (or maybe even breaking camp possibly with the big team), McClouth, McCann, Chipper. If Glaus is fully healthy he could provide considerable power form 1B which they haven't had since they had Teixeira for half a year. They've got some age and injury risk at the back of their bullpen, but Wagner proved effective at the end of the year and Saito has still been tremendously good despite his age and if they are still the same as they ever were they have one of the best 8-9 inning combos in the game. Also they have Melky Cabrera, who was hand crafted by the Gods themselves and sent down from the heavens to make amazing feats of baseball gloriocity.
  8. Where's Tim McCarver?
  9. Is this being discussed anywhere? Didn't see it. For all I know it's been around for a while now and everyone already knows about it, but noticed it just now and thought I'd share... It's an insider article... http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/insider/news/story?id=4938710 I'm sure there's probably more info on the BP website. EDIT: They listed Randy Wells as one of the pitchers who was worse than his ERA dictated.
  10. Also, my completely biased and bold prediction for 2010: Nolan Reimold and Kyle Blanks are going to combine for 70 home runs this season. Book it
  11. Anyone wanna trade a 3rd rounder for Alex Gordon? He's super good, you know... I'm not concerned with my lack of picks between the 1st and 5th rounds, as my pitching is pretty much filled out already, I'm just boooooooooorrrrrrreeeeed. The 5th round can't get here fast enough. Also, I would've taken Markakis with the 4th pick if a) I didn't already have an outfield filled up and b) my 3rd base keeper was a question mark
  12. Mark Buerhle threw a perfect game and now they have Jake Peavy. The world is doomed.
  13. This is pretty old, and I don't recall if a bunch of people were aware of it or not, but when I was working for the BayBears this past season doing video work I bogarted some video from when they played the Smokies. Cashner started, and was actually pretty impressive, though he was facing a weak offense... and also I think he walked like 5, but he only allowed 1 (iirc). The Mobile offense was REALLY bad. Obviously one start isn't indicative of an entire career, but I'd say he's definitely got potential a a starter. Here's the file with all of his appearances in the game if anyone is interested. As I put it then... http://rapidshare.com/files/262604644/Cash7-29-09.rar
  14. You're right about that, Ryan
  15. I think you mean J.R. Richard (not J.P.), and I'd think he'd be up there. He seemed to be headed for major stardom before having his career cut short by a stroke. Yeah, that's it. I never knew who he was before that show. It's a tragic story
  16. IIRC, J.P. Richard was up there, not sure if he was #1 though
  17. I never understood the difference between a splitter and a sinker, don't they both essentially achieve the same result while maintaining similar velocities? Does one typically break more than the other?
  18. Omar Vizquel is going to be compared to Ozzie Smith when being considered fro the HOF, it's inevitable. For that reason alone he will get in because a) He was widely regarded as one of the best defensive SS of all time along with Smith, and the best defensive SS of this era and b) His overall offensive numbers trump Ozzie Smith's. Take away Vizquel's last two seasons and compare his first 19 years to Smith's total 19 year career, and Vizquel has more/higher: hits, runs, doubles, triples, home runs, rbi, AVG, OBP, SLG, OPS. He also made 100 fewer errors, though you can also chalk that up to a lesser range, but even with a lower range factor to still make 100 fewer errors is still a huge number. Done. Might not be a first ballot, but he'll make it easily. If Smith can get in with anemic numbers and great defense, surely Vizquel can get in with the same while trumping Smith's offense. As for the un-retiring of the number thing... who cares? It's the White Sox
  19. I can really see him becoming infuriated too if he struggles against better pitching. I like Castro as much as the next guy and would love to see him to well enough to break camp with the team, but he really needs to start in AA and work his way up. If they're gonna move him swiftly he needs at least a month at both AA and AAA. I'd hate to see him rushed, struggle, and then get put in Lou's doghouse. I would think that with his high profile though that they would know better than to just let him sit around and collect dust on the bench if that happens and instead send him back down to the minors
  20. That link says his agent denies that he's retiring
  21. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Tigers may not have gotten future superstars, but those three players right there are pretty damn good young guys to have in your system
  22. Quite simple, in season trades made by Slainte last season. IIRC correctly he received my 3rd round pick & Jair Jurrjens in exchange for Justin Upton and your 5th round pick. Seems about right, was a while ago. Welcome to the league!
  23. Personally I don't care, I just saw an opportunity to take a cheap shot at them and took it.
  24. The fact of the matter is Frank Thomas was one of the Top 5 best players in the 90's and that was the time when he spent most of his time as a 1B, not a DH. (847 @ 1B vs. 460 @ DH). I would think because he spent his best HOF-caliber seasons as a full time 1B should count for something. He was about 1 months worth of games played away at 1B from playing in 1000 games at the position. This shouldn't be a big deal, and if people make it out to be a big deal it will be a travesty if he doesn't go in on the first ballot
  25. Frank Thomas' first 5 full years in baseball are uncanny. It's a shame that he didn't get to finish up the 1994 season. A 211 OPS+ when the strike cut it short. Unreal. Frank Thomas was the man in the 90's, a lot of people forget that since he was sort of in the shadow of Bonds and Griffey. 1990-1999: .320/.440/.573 169 OPS+ 301HR 1,040RBI 1,076BB If you find players who had that much of an offensive impact over the course of a decade in any era of baseball, they're probably hall of famers. Frank Thomas is a first ballot. Has to be
