  1. So the Marlins are calling up Mike Stanton on Tuesday as well... it's gonna be a fun day for baseball fans
  2. Why? Yeah for real. I hope he strikes out all 27 batters on 3 pitches each. Here's a thought... of all the pitchers out there today, would it be safe to say that Strasburg represents the best chance for a pitcher to match and/or surpass the 20K in a single game mark at some point in his career?
  3. He accepted, but I tossed him my 2011 5th rounder in the deal to seal it. I'm pretty satisfied. Haren could really help, and even if he doesn't he will cost me a very very low draft pick next year
  4. That would never work, his foot would be off the bag every time a throw is made to first.
  5. The Crew had some kind of indication. I'm not sure what it was, but they knew something. Whatever happened, the Cubs failed to see McGehee's potential. And it does hurt, especially now. Suppose the Cubs did see it... where the hell would McGehee fit into our team this year or last year? No one could've predicted such an abysmal start by Lee and Ramirez, even if he proved that he could be useful at the corners, he'd be blocked in every way shape or form by a superior player. He would be useless, even if the Cubs saw he had potential
  6. In theory, if he sat him one game a week he'd end up playing around 130 or so games a year (I'd be kinda okay with that). Also, using that theory, he would've sat 8 times thus far instead of 12 (BR says he's started 40 games this year out of 52 total team games played). That being said, Soto came into this season in the best shape of his career, he's not exactly a fatty kins like he was last year so I would imagine he has a bit more energy to spare. There's a certain point where sitting him more often than not will do one thing by accomplishing another... 1) It saves his strength for the end of the season/playoffs 2) It keeps his bat cold and inconsistent because he's not getting regular AB's Lou needs to understand that while he may be saving Soto's strength for the playoffs, he's taking his potential impact out of a lineup that desperately needs it NOW, which in turn could mean that saving his strength for the playoffs is a completely and utterly useless idea since there's a good chance we won't make the playoffs if he keeps giving AB's to people like Koyie Hill. Obviously Soto isn't the savior and the rest of the team needs to step up as well, but this whole one-game reward/punishment system Lou has going on where he sits and plays players based on their performance for the previous game, is really really stupid and annoying. We get it, Nady might've had a nice pinch hit in the late innings and Soriano went 1-5 with an error in the same game... DON'T PLAY NADY INSTEAD OF THE BEST HITTER ON THE TEAM YOU STUPID OLD COOT
  7. are you looking at his totals for each year or just his numbers even for partial years (as BR has them set out)? 107, 74, 145, 72, 68, 121, 100, 61, 66. 5 years of suck. 2 years of average or better. a really good year. and a great year. A lot of those are partial seasons, but 3 of his best seasons were full seasons. I'd say his career has been pretty much a roller coaster. That really great year screwed me in Fantasy the year after when I drafted high on him, lol
  8. When he went down that was one of the first things that popped in my head, but I've been reading that they may be giving Napoli time at 1B, and he has been on an absolute tear at the plate. Getting him regular AB's without having to put him behind the plate is a good thing for them. But I'm sure that's not going to stop the Angels from looking for a legit regular 1B. And what with Lee being from Cali I wonder if he'd be willing to waive that NTC. The question is, if that were to happen, which I don't really think it will, who would we get to replace Lee @ 1B? Hoffpauir?
  9. I'm still waiting for these stats to come up and bite him in the ass but it's just not happening. Anyone know how to calculate ERA+ to find out what it is now? I sat at 512 before this game started
  10. This has to stop. Fine. J.J. it is then. And so not to offend you, whenever Brett Jackson gets close to callup time we'll just call him B.J. to keep it simple, yet sophomoric
  11. I hope for his sake he performs well today, because this will probably be a 9-inning experiment before Lou changes his mind because he's a moron. Anything to keep Theriot and his plate patience disappearing act out of the top of the lineup
  12. I offered the trade w/ Lind in the mix. Here's my pitching... Felix Hernandez Phil Hughes Francisco Liriano Clayton Kershaw Ian Kennedy Mat Latos Jake Peavy Stephen Strasburg Reliever: Kerry Wood Luke Gregerson Mike Gonzalez (DL) Huston Street (DL) In about a week and a half I'll have Stephen Strasburg there and he could be my ace in the hole. And obviously my relievers are pure crap. I had Hoffman but eff that guy, dropped him. I'm not really concerned if Haren ends up torching the league or not, it's more of a keeper rule exploitation. Our keeper rules state that if you draft someone and keep him on your roster the whole year you may keep him next year by relinquishing a draft pick two rounds prior to where you drafted him the year before. Haren would cost this guy a 1st rounder, so he'll never do that. Our rules also state that if you trade for or pick up a player you did not draft, you may keep him based on his final Yahoo ranking. Take his final ranking, divide by the number of teams in the league (in this case 10), and subtract 1 and that's the draft pick round you relinquish. If Haren ends up sucking in the 2nd half, he'll likely be very lowly rated because of the fact that he is that way right now. Maybe in the 300-500 range. That would cost me a 25th round pick, my last. It's more of a strategy than an attempt to get better. Plus like I said, he already has several of the most elite pitchers in the league this year, losing Haren would probably help him moreso than hurt him since he's been not so good. Meanwhile my pitching, on paper, looks good but for whatever reason they aren't getting the job done. When Strasburg comes up it will likely get much better. Though I understand why you two would not do it, like I said I'm hoping to buy low and sell high. We all know Wells and Johnson are not elite players, but they are performing really well right now to the point where maybe I can get something like this out of them. Plus he's a Braves homer and might like the fact that he can have former Braves great Kelly Johnson... and yes, most Braves fans around here loved Kelly Johnson like he was their own. P.S. if this deal goes through I would end up dropping Peavy. How sad is it that I'd drop Peavy before Gregerson to make room for someone? Man he sucks this year. If he didn't have such terrible road splits during his time in San Diego I'd probably keep him but all evidence points to this being more like him than not.
  13. Ive said this a million times, but Im still baffled. Until this year, Grabow has been a solid but not spectacular middle reliever, but on what planet are run of the mill middle relievers worth 7.5 mil? Thats even a lot for a good set up man, and while he started out as a set up man, he wasnt even intended to be used that way, unless they had a pretty good idea that Guz would miss the season all along. Scot Shields was awarded a 3-year contract that averaged out to $4.8M each year at a time when he was widely considered to be the greatest setup man of the decade. So if the greatest setup man of the decade is worth $4.8M per year... and John Grabow is getting $4.8M next year, then theoretically speaking John Grabow is a douche bag. Seriously, his knee is hurt. You know what they do to high priced race horses when their legs get hurt? They kill them. I'm just throwin' it out there
  14. Ex-Billionaire. He spent his riches on a poorly run business
  15. I'm struggling for pitching, both starting and relieving. My league is not very deep. Our offensive stats are H, R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS and our pitching is W, L, SV, HLD, K, WHIP, ERA. I'm considering offering another team: Vernon Wells Kelly Johnson for Brian Wilson Dan Haren It's a case of buy low, sell high. I'm not sure if Wells will keep this pace and I know Johnson won't, but the other team is currently trotting Christian Guzman out to 2B and he has a surplus of relievers and starters, including Rivera, Nunez, Jenks, Okajima, and Affeldt in the pen and Lincecum, Jimenez, Hanson, and Price in his rotation (we're in a keeper league with unique rules, which is how he was able to pile up that many quality arms). If you were in his position, would you consider the trade? His current OF consists of Lind, Heyward, and Quentin, w/ Bourn, Podsednik, and Manny on the bench. All of which except Heyward have been disappointments. I was thinking of adding Lind to the fray and try to get him in the deal as well. I already have Aaron Hill at 2B who has been the benefactor of some terrible luck this season, so all metrics point to him starting to mash the ball soon, and he has been the past week and a half (HR wise, anyways). If the trade were to go through I can pick up guys like Jay Bruce, Corey Hart, Drew Stubbs, or JD Drew, who would slot in with McCutchen, Crawford, and Gardner who are my only other outfielders.
  16. I'd like to think with all the success we've had with getting the best out of most of the pitchers in our rotation over the last few years, maybe some Larry Rothschild pixie dust could fix him? On second thought, no. Let's not take that risk.

  18. The Braves have a flurry of bullpen arms and are having some issues in their rotation... Lowe has been abysmal and Kawakami has been less than stellar, all while Jair Jurrjens is injured. The Braves have Saito, Moylan, O'Flaherty, Medlen, and Venters in their bullpen. They moved Medlen who was perfoming good as well to their rotation. Adding Gorz could move him back. Their ERA's... Saito: 3.43 Moylan: 2.11 Medlen: 2.57 O'Flaherty: 1.86 Venters: 1.00 Obviously they also have Wagner, but I'm sure he's not going anywhere. I'd say the Braves have an immediate need and a surplus of bullpen arms to spare in a one-for-one trade if it comes down to it
  19. I don't like the fact that, even if it's a joke, they're implying that he's doing it because he's trying to keep his rotation spot. Regardless, pretty classy move by Dempster.
  20. If this were a long term deal I'd call it a wash. If it's a win-now type situation, yeah Team A wins. Barajas is not as good as he's been and will come back down to earth Rasmus is doing well but is pretty much only playing against righties Lee is... well we all know how he's been, but also what he's capable of. Soto is mired in a slump who will never produce because Lou refuses to move him from the bottom of the lineup, plus he sits way too much because Lou is a moron Cuddyer has been a unspectacular, if not decent RBI producer Granderson is an overrated platoon player. I honestly think Lee will probably snap out of it eventually, so Team A would essentially be riding Barajas' hot streak while it lasts, getting Rasmus' above level production vs. righties, and get a possible breakout from a good hitter, while the three they give up have been and likely will be "meh" fantasy players for the next couple months
