  1. While it seems Cantu is their target of choice, there have been some rumors that the Rangers have been keeping an eye on Derrek Lee... - MLBTR
  2. But then Tyler Colvin won't have a position to flourish at :(
  3. Type-A draft picks. If they're desperate and will take a #4 type pitcher for Werth, you can get Werth for an expendable pitcher you wouldn't mind parting with (who likely wouldn't be that great if he's a #4) and let Werth walk and take draft picks. I honestly don't care or not, but the thought did pop in my mind.
  4. I know we have the fire Lou and New GM, New Manager thread, but thought this would be deserving of its own. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5409326 Discuss.
  5. Fair enough. Looking at his FanGraphs, seems he's been better than his numbers lead on (3.29 FIP) as well as a bit unlucky (.337 BABIP). Didn't realize that.
  6. A #4 starter for Jayson Werth? Really? Silva for Werth! I'd kick in Wells, too. Get it done, Jimbo! Werth is a FA after this season. I would not "kick-in" Wells. What if it's just Wells? And if they're really desperate to move him, would they? I'd almost be inclined to trade them Wells just so we can let Werth walk and take the draft picks, assuming he'd be a Type-A
  7. A #4 starter for Jayson Werth? Really? Silva for Werth!
  8. The Astros are reportedly asking for either Matt Kemp or James Loney for Roy Oswalt from the Dodgers Though it's kind of conflicting on Rotoworld's front page. The headline says Loney and when you click it it says Loney, but on the front page it says Ethier instead, but still references Loney. If all it takes is James Loney to get Roy Oswalt, the Dodgers should not hesitate to do it. Financial differences be damned. The kind of numbers Loney puts up are the kind of numbers you'd hope for out of your second baseman, for a first baseman his numbers are [expletive]. But obviously it comes down to Oswalt's choice of teams he goes to
  9. Ordonez plays right field. Miguel Cabrera is their 1B
  10. I had no idea Scott Moore is only 26 years old. I thought he was at least 30 by now.
  11. Will they bring Gordon back up to play 3rd after playing him in LF this whole time? Lord knows he has nothing left to prove in the minors.
  12. Hopefully that doesn't mean we'd get crap prospects in return. Actually, that is exactly what it means. Go Cubs! :x If that's the case we're better off offering him arby and letting him walk

  14. UH-OH. What am I missing? A windowless van? At least that's how I interpreted it.
  15. I'm sure Castro's numbers aren't inspiring enough to voters. I'd say at this point in time Jaime Garcia is the best overall rookie, but if I were to put money on who would win in the end, I'd probably go with Buster Posey. Strasburg is gonna get shut down too early to warrant consideration over other deserving candidates, Heyward hasn't done much of anything since May, and his injury isn't going to help things. Posey has been awesome
  16. Lots of them don't wear cups when they bat. Lots of OFers don't wear one period. Adrian Beltre got drilled in the nuts fielding a screamer at 3B like last year or two years ago or something.
  17. Now it seems they've moved onto Prince Fielder...
  18. He has injury issues almost every season, last season was the only time he missed a lot of significant time though and that was because of a freak dislocation on a diving play. Any team interested in him will likely anticipate getting at least 130 games out of him each year. The whole 2012 option kicking in if traded was something I did not realize. That certainly changes things
  19. Aramis Ramirez has been one of the most consistent and best offensive 3B in the majors for the past 6 years. He does have his fair share of dings and dents as well, but his track record over the past 6 years as well as his current play should trump the 3 month aberration. Yes, they should shop him. If he continues to play like this he will probably opt out, I'm sure he'll have no problems waiving his NTC if both he and Cubs have no intention of coming to terms after the season. He's probably one of, if not our most valuable expendable trade chip... but that NTC is still pesky (not that it matters... 10-5). If our goal is to rebuild, he should bring in a very nice haul, even if he ends up being a rental. Teams like the Angels, Dodgers, Tigers, they all need a 3B... hell even a team like the Rays could use him at DH instead of trotting Willy Aybar and Hank Blalock out there. I would say that Aramis has tremendous trade value right now, and unless this recent offensive resurgence has the Cubs thinking playoff push (I hope not), I think they should try and move him. He'll be 33 next year, so getting older won't help him get any less injury prone, trade him while his value is as high as it likely will be this season, IMO.
  20. This isn't Cubs related, and I didn't want to start a thread for it... but has anyone noticed the numbers that J.P. Arencibia is putting up right now in AAA? .321/.374/.673/1.046 28HR 71RBI He's hit 19 homers and 42 RBI in his last 34 games. I was just checking up on the stats for some of the minor leaguers on my dynasty team and he's one of them and I was shocked at how well he was doing.
  21. Uhhhhhhh.... well, let's see here OPS+ 2010 (so far), 2009, 2008... Howard: 134, 140, 124 Dunn: 151, 144, 130 Also, they're both 30 years old and they're both first basemen. At least you know Dunn can play LF in a pinch (though that would be a terrible idea), but while it's been publicized that Rizzo over values his players a bit, I'm not so sure he's the one who is acting like a fool in this scenario. EDIT: Howard's once excellent walk rate has all but disappeared, while Dunn's has remained in tact (and gotten a little better if anything). Also, I know the WAR numbers are in favor of Howard, but doesn't WAR take UZR into account? Dunn's WAR is skewed because of his terrible LF play, while Howard has been an average 1B. Dunn's been pretty much the same at 1B this season, has he not? So.... is Rizzo wrong to suggest that Dunn is as valuable as Ryan Howard (if not more valuable)?
