  1. The media, of course, is making a huge deal over this. Would've been nice if Yunel Escobar had gotten that kind of scrutiny when he did it to the Cubs last season
  2. Jayson Stark interviewed 24 out of the 30 managers and most were in favor of some form of instant replay expansion. There's a whole article about it here with all the gory details: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings100916 The gist of it:
  3. I kind of want to respond about the whole Hamilton thing, but someone already pointed out the whole agreement the Cubs had in place with the Reds regarding their pick and the author of the article pretty much called him an idiot while not addressing the whole issue of Hendry having the agreement in place before hand. He just nitpicked at a small comment about being committed to an outfield for 2008 instead :? Those people are ridiculous
  4. Aramis Ramirez isn't opting out of his contract? Stop the presses
  5. Actually he debuted with the Giants. We traded Hawkins for him and Jerome Williams. Now there's a name I completely and utterly forgot... what happened to Jerome Williams? Doesn't look to be playing this year, did he get cut?
  6. That is so painful to watch
  7. Do you think the Capps for Ramos deal was a matter of desperation on the Twins' part or do you think they genuinely perceived Capps as a valuable swap for Ramos? I know Ramos was highly expendable, but would you agree that because of that deal it changes the landscape for the trade value of high performance closers like Marmol? Top 25 maybe not, but top 50 perhaps?
  8. i'm baffled by your bafflement Don Cooper has long wanted to work with Jackson and the early returns of their work together have been nothing short of fantastic Didn't realize how well he was doing in Chicago. I'm just befuddled by the fact that prior to this season, he was only REALLY good for half of one season as a starter (2009 first half) in his whole career, yet he has been able to net teams top young pitchers like Max Scherzer and Daniel Hudson in exchange (not to mention Chicago's 2009 2nd round pick David Holmberg), and if I'm not mistaken Williams was trying to spin him for Adam Dunn. I'm not saying Jackson is a joke, he's still relatively young and has shown lots of promise, but he hasn't put up numbers that should be getting teams all riled up in a tizzy about him.
  9. are they really worse off with Hudson over Scherzer? Touché, sir... but Kennedy-Saunders-Hudson doesn't sound as good :). I do like Kennedy and Hudson though, they're gonna be a good 1-2. I'm still baffled by the perceived value of Edwin Jackson, though
  10. Are they still holding out hope for Gordon?
  11. Watch the interview SpongeWorthy posted, there's a little bit of an explanation and origin of that mask in that one
  12. Felix Pie has drawn 2 walks today... that gives him 9 on the season now. So he's drawn 22% of all his walks this year in today's game alone, lol
  13. When asked about his orange shoes after he got fined (because Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez complained the previous night), Brian Wilson responded...
  14. Wow. Brian Wilson [expletive] rules
  15. if he were to cost too much in prospects, I'd rather try and finagle Kila Ka'aihue away from them instead. He's a bit older (26), and has had little success in the majors (because they seem hell bent on not giving him a chance to succeed in the majors) despite having tremendous success in the minors. He might be a possible buy low candidate, considering he's more or less blocked by Butler at 1B, if the Cubs choose to go the penny pincher route next season and avoid someone like Dunn. But I would welcome Billy Butler to the team with open arms if we can swing it
  16. Weren't there whispers of a Marmol to the Reds deal earlier in the year? I believe we were clamoring for Yonder Alonso in return. Not sure if folks were being unreasonable or not, but considering just how good Marmol can be, and especially considering the Nats got Wilson Ramos in return for Matt Capps, I'd say we should be able to get a very good prospect in the Yonder Alonso mold for Marmol. Lest we not forget Marmol will be under team control for the next 2 years in arbitration, so that could be another key enticer
  17. I have a feeling we'll be talking about Lincecum, Cain, and Bumgarner for many years to come... if Lincecum doesn't destroy his arm. And if it weren't for Brandon Webb's injuries and a couple of ridiculously stupid trades, Webb-Haren-Scherzer would've been a formidable trio
  18. Awesome... too bad the minor league season is pretty much over with though, but it's good to see him catch on somewhere. Here's hoping he can put it back together! =D>
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=5516821
  20. In what world is debating about having a .900+OPS hitter on your team a good idea or not? Dunn will be cheaper than than Gonzalez or Fielder, isn't too terribly old, can be had this coming offseason, and will consistently put up at least a .900 OPS or thereabouts. Count me in on the Dunn for 2011 bandwagon... just don't give him a NTC, Jim
  21. It might be the latter... he accepted an invite to a home run derby at my college a few years ago, The university of South Alabama, while he was in town doing his own charity golf tournament. No real incentive for him to show, he had his own stuff going on. He's kind of a nice guy
