  1. Ugh... don't turn this [expletive] into another Anibal Sanchez thread
  2. I'm already wary of what condition his body is in considering he's missed significant time (25+ games) in each season since 2008. He's going to command a huge salary, he'll be one year closer to his mid 30's, and he's a huge injury liability. I don't really care if he's a great hitter, or even the best hitter right now... it will fade quicker than it will last, IMO. Pass.
  3. A lefty at that...Newark, NJ native so I'll root for him. I dont get it, is he hurt? He's their Jay Jackson...just never developed after some strong early showings. Mechanics aren't supposed to be good, never gained velocity, and his curveba of doom no longer brings doom. Maybe hes an [expletive]...got out of shape or just stopped working or something. You'd think he'd wait to get paid first so maybe he's just bad. Doesn't help when you give up 14ER, walk 15 batters, and hit 5 more of them in 6.2 innings at High A ball when you're 23.
  4. Didn't know where else to put this... MLB should probably figure out a way to change the acceptable procedure for storing samples. Or maybe stop testing on days where people won't be able to ship them for a couple days leading to this situation.
  5. I think I'd rather play Jesus Flores with the way Soto has been
  6. Maybe he should pitch from the wind up all the time? Didn't Maddux do that because he said a runner who reaches first base has like a 30% chance of scoring, and he trusted his ability enough to beat those odds and get out of the inning? A .491 OPS against with the bases empty is a pretty staggering number. Is it possible he really isn't comfortable pitching out of the stretch?
  7. Just looked up his minor league numbers and saw he was playing in an independent league this season. I think it's a bit crazy that he didn't catch on with another team considering his former pedigree, his not being completely old yet, and the fact that he was a somewhat useful role player in Baltimore which was one of the toughest divisions in baseball. And since he could field a premium position he should've made a perfectly fine backup for a number of teams. Surprised there wasn't any interest
  8. John Axford reminds me of Sewage Joe from Parks & Recreation for some reason
  9. Supposedly the angels are shopping Bourjos, much better idea than just cutting Vernon Wells. Mmmmmmmm... an outfield of Bourjos, Jackson, and Upton next year would be a pitchers wet dream. As for trading Soto to the Angels, I'd rather see if we can pry away someone like Walden since our bullpen is a [expletive] wreck. I'm not sure the difference between Conger and Castillo is enough to warrant putting a package together for Conger.
  10. I am pretty sure that's not true http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/7098129 AWWWWWWWWWWWWW [expletive] YOU JUST GOT DEALT WITH
  11. http://www.northsidebaseball.com//forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=60890&p=2800260#p2800260 But it IS hilarious
  12. That nickname is unsustainable.
  13. That's actually kind of funny. It is. I actually laughed when it happened. I was right there up against the banister right next to my Cardinals jersey donning roommates. Passed right over me for the next guy in line. My roommates at the time are now married. They both have an Albert Pujols ball. Two autographed balls in one household. Not fair.
  14. Pujols was doing a charity golf tournament here in Mobile, AL because his wife has ties to the city. That same weekend, The University of South Alabama was having their alumni baseball weekend, and we had such greats as Juan Pierre, Marlon Anderson, Jon Lieber, Luis Gonzalez, and more come out on hand for the show. Albert Pujols accepted an invitation to participate as a guest in the college vs. mlb home run derby. He won, naturally. He then signed autographs for everyone free of charge! Although, I was wearing a Cubs jersey, and my roommates were Cardinals fans. We were in line next to each other, he signed their stuff, he skipped over me.
  15. Andre Dawson kicked my dog... after it collapsed and died, and then his heart started beating again and he lived for another 10 years.
  16. Wanted to post this... didn't know where else. http://i.imgur.com/Z3kF9.gif
  17. Because their team sucks and they need a scapegoat.
  18. We could be that team. I imagine we would offer a package including guys like Vogelbach and Szczur... but are those players good enough to headline a package to land Hamels?
  19. His 295 minor league PAs of garbage over that timeframe isn't helping matters. He was also injured often during that time span. Hand and thumb injuries, IIRC. Tends to diminish the numbers a bit. When he's healthy he's awesome, but sadly he's had injuries the last year or so that have slowed down his offensive progress. 2010, when he was healthy, he was awesome. And while his 2011 in the minors wasn't all that pretty, he did manage to drastically improve his walk rate.
  20. Weird. It's a conflicting report... http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/early-lead/post/josh-beckett-reportedly-played-golf-after-missing-start-because-of-injury/2012/05/10/gIQAei8qFU_blog.html That's the article I pulled the quote from, but ESPN has this all over... So which was it. 2 days before he missed a start or the day after? Day after, yeah I tend to agree that there should be some anger. It either means he wasn't really hurt and didn't feel like pitching, or he was just being a pansy and not pitching through what was probably minor pain. 2 days before? Chalk it up to bad luck. Like falling out of a hot tub.
  21. I never understood the whole "I don't want any distractions during the season" argument. Is being offered more money than you currently make REALLY that big of a distraction. "Gah, I can't concentrate on hitting the ball because my team wants to give me so much damn money!" If you're winding up a contract and you're playing for next season, I get it, but if you're a young kid who is still under team control making league minimum wouldn't you get giddy with excitement at the prospect of signing a contract that makes you rich beyond belief?
  22. So apparently he didn't get injured because he played golf, it's that he played golf AFTER he was pulled for having an injury that caused him to miss a start
