I'm in a rotisserie points league for the first time ever. I didn't know it was a rotisserie points league. I'm not a fan of it. I prefer H2H. That being said, it was $50 buy in with folks I know and we did a live in person draft so it was a lot of fun. It is a keeper league, where we keep 2 players with set rules (that basically make the first two rounds of draft picks unkeepable). I had the 2nd pick in the draft, here's how I picked (numbers next are the overal rankings on ESPN)... 4 Troy Tulowitzki, Col SS 21 Giancarlo Stanton, Mia OF 28 Carlos Santana, Cle C 45 Zack Greinke, Mil SP 52 Brandon Phillips, Cin 2B 69 C.J. Yes, a catcher who draws nearly 100 walks and hits nearly 30 home runs and has the potential for 80+ RBI is a TERRIBLE 3rd round pick... because he didn't hit above .240 in his first full year in the majors. Nevermind the .263 BABIP and all. 2) I was chastised for taking Bud Norris "strictly for K's". Nevermind the fact that he's actually a decent pitcher. To which they responded "He's not going to get any wins on that Astros team". It's like they don't realize there are multiple categories. 3) They called my 9th round pick of Yu Darvish "a reach" 4) Also "Pomeranz with your last pick? Really?!?!". Yeah, really, guy who drafted Mike Trout with your 20th pick when guys like Mike Moustakas, Mike Minor, Trevor Cahill, Edwin Jackson, Chad Billingsley, and Ike Davis were still available... and then dropped him as soon as the season started.

He's also making Devin Mesoraco the primary backup to Ryan Hanigan, it would seem Yes. Bench your #1 prospect instead of giving him AB's in the minors, Dusty. That sounds about par for the course. Although you can put some blame on Jocketty for that, too.

Andrew Cashner has been doing well for the Padres thus far, having three consecutive identical outings of 1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K. Also saw, because of an old news update on his fantasy profile on CBS, that in his spring debut he was AVERAGING 102.2 MPH?!?! I knew he could touch 100, didn't know he could get it that high.

Considering that's around league average and his BABIP the following 2 years was .308 in 2010 and .318 in 2011? Yeah. I'd say he wasn't as good as he should've been in 2009 due to a lack of scouting, and the league had continually gotten better against him over the following 2 seasons, mostly because he brings nothing dominant to the table. He pitches in a pitchers haven half the year and pitches to contact and he still has abysmal numbers. That's not a very good sign. You can argue his FIP and xFIP make him better than advertised, but even then those numbers don't jump out at you. Oh, but what does jump out at me are his 2009 FIP and xFIP, you know, the year he was showcasing his talents and it wasn't luck? Yeah, those numbers were 4.77 and 4.27

You can just as easily chalk up his 2009 success to lack of scouting and luck (.258 2nd half BABIP). As an aside, has anyone checked out Jacob Turner's contract details, it's somewhat interesting...

Targeting Porcello would be for the same reason you target Turner: upside. Porcello still hasn't proven he's capable of being a serious threat against major league batters, despite being in the rotation for 3 years. So if you're targeting for his upside, you compare the two, and prior to Turner's shoulder scare (which he claims is fine now and doctors are saying was just a bout of tendinitis), Turner comes out in front of Porcello by a wide margin. There's nothing wrong with targeting Porcello in the right deal, but to dismiss Turner in favor of him is a bit much. Of course we all want the younger guy who is near MLB ready and has more upside over the guy who has 3 years of MLB service time on his record and has yet to provide any sort of indication that he's going to break out at any minute.

You can't be serious. Considering that Turner has recently developed some shoulder concerns, it's not out of the realm of possibility for him to be serious... That being said, I don't approve. I like Porcello, but not as a center piece (which I think is also the general consensus of most people on this board)

Wow. Can't say he hasn't earned it, but that's a huge contract for the Reds to dish out. Somewhere else mentioned that Brandon Phillips will likely be released into free agency instead of extended because of it. Not interested in the Cubs pursuing him, but thought it was a mildly intriguing MLB storyline

It's almost comical how far behind the Cubs were in terms of, well... everything that involves common sense, pretty much

Do the Dodgers really pull in that much money that a $2 billion price tag is reasonable? I know they're in one of the largest markets, but they don't seem like one of those teams that people outside of their market goes crazy for, unlike the Red Sox, Yankees, and Cubs.
