  1. The Cubs have signed 16yr old Italian catcher Alberto Mineo at MLB's European Baseball Academy. Link http://bora.la/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/alberto-mineo1.jpg Pic of the new guy.
  2. Nice 2-3 away win for Bruges to advance to the group stages of the Europa league. :yahoo:
  3. This thread seems to have jinxed the Cubs. 8-)
  4. Bears sign Todd Collins. Comments?
  5. It's probably no coincidence Hill played in Lou's final game.
  6. Let's see what the big prize in the Lee deal can do.
  7. Or better still (slow-mo replay of chair flying at 2:00 approx)
  8. Nice positioning by him (and dreadful marking too)
  9. BBC reports Gallas to sign with Spurs I guess the Frenchman likes London.
  10. Fuld is on the 40 man roster, Snyder and Lahair aren't. (Adduci was also an option because of this) Shouldn't matter though, since there's only 39 on there at the moment (Guzman being on the 60 day DL)
  11. Yeah, pretty much. If an OF has to be moved to 1B, Colvin seems the obvious choice to me. Soriano flat out saying he wouldn't do it may be a tad unprofessional, but at the end of the day it doesn't matter. It was probably the way the question was phrased. The correct or honest answer was that he couldn't play 1b adequately.
  12. And he has the same reaction as most people: "I've never heard of these guys so they can't be serious prospects" From what I've read, the return seems to be about as good (if not better) as could be expected.
  13. He's also a Belgian international who's had a bad year at AZ - I hope he can rebound in the EPL
  14. Wouldn't that be true regardless of this possible trade? Or would Lee have returned on a short-term (cheap) deal?
  15. Interesting indeed. If this happens, 1B will be brutal for the remainder of the Cubs season though.
  16. Sometimes you meet people from way back in unexpected places, as is obvious by Mourinho's look when Sergio Conceicao (now assistant coach with Standard Liège) says hello prior to yesterday's warm-up game. http://www.sporza.be/polopoly_fs/1.846373!image/2389702551.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape470/2389702551.jpg
  17. Because a couple didn't sign? Isn't that to be expected? DeJesus is a bummer because of what round he was picked, but other than him I'd say it's about par for the course.
  18. :-$
  19. Ronald Koeman or Bradley?
  20. Not really. It's not your fault you never look beyond the USA in the medals table, or that the calculations to convert relative to population size can be too complicated. We are actually quite tolerant about intellectual laziness. 8-)
  21. I wish him all the best, but why does adding Fontenot make sense for the Giants?
  22. Trying all of those out on Londoners could be fun. 8-)
  23. Local reports say Kljestan came on as a sub. How did he look?
  24. Less competition for starting spots. At his age, that's almost a guaranteed 10 to 12 yrs of World Cup and Euro qualifiers in groups with at least two nations with decent national leagues (and thus visible exposure to coaches/managers of teams within those leagues). Sounds like a smart business decision to me. Not to mention that if he's good enough (I have no clue about his talent level), he'd actually get the chance to play in the World Cup rather than having to settle for getting waxed in Euro and WC qualifiers every few months - and all athletes love to win. I guess if he doesn't think he's good enough to play for us, that's one thing, but those thoughts rarely cross the minds of professional athletes. Well Armenia did beat Belgium in WC 2010 qualifying. Any team of grandma's would have beaten Belgium in the last WC qualifying.
  25. With the season lost a long time ago, I'd like the Cubs to be very conservative with Soto's recovery. None of the remaining games matter, a healthy Soto in 2011 does.
