  1. Well, it's being held in June 2013, and if qualification/seeding is anything like this cycle, qualification will go through September at least, and seeding would take place in Nov/Dec 2013, so I would assume those matches would impact seedings. Can't remember if they use the world rankings or not but we should be getting a boost in the post-Cup rankings also. The 06 Cup is off our record and the 10 Cup is in while, as you said, we did better than Italy (5th), France (9th) and Greece (13th), while Croatia (10th), Russia (11th) and Egypt (12th) didn't even qualify. Making the Confederation's Cup and having a good showing there is a must if we want to have any sort of a shot at a seed. We'd also have to get lucky and have some of those European teams around us either not qualify or have a poor showing if they do. I think FIFA would like nothing better than to seed a non-host country that isn't from Europe or South-America just to underline the "global" thing. Given the current showings, either the US or Mexico are the logical choice for such a spot. I'd say go for it.
  2. Argentina's Angel De Maria has signed a six year deal with Real Madrid (coming over from Benfica)
  3. No decision yet on the Gold Cup qualifying for the next time round? Odd, UEFA has already drawn the groups for the next EC (in 2012 in Poland and Ukraine) and all qualifiers have been scheduled (starts in 08/11 this year and ends on 10/11 next year; is followed by a play-off round)
  4. I take it you guys want Slovenia expelled from the tournament for being smaller than New Jersey and having about the same number of inhabitants as New Mexico.
  5. You can't blame him for the goal - that was lousy defending by De Michelis
  6. As their frustration grows, it could get ugly.
  7. If it ever gets introduced, it'll be in the Champion's League, imho.
  8. Some pushing and shoving between the benches at half time. lol @ a comment during half time: the level of French and Italian referees has been consistent with that of the teams.
  9. Yes. No. That was a truly horrendous mistake though. And 2-0 now
  10. Not sure the video will show for you guys, but I'll give it a go anyway. Belgian TV piece on Anderlecht's summer training, with a Sacha Kljestan interview at about 2:10: http://www.sporza.be/permalink/1.812493
  11. Nope, works fine using Nexus.
  12. That was exactly the problem with the US performance - at this level, you need to put away a higher % of the chances that you get. And as far as the time wasting goes: yes, it annoys me to no end, and some teams (like Ghana) go way over the top, but it's a stretch to say that the US team wouldn't waste time if they needed to hang on to a lead. Of course, that's impossible to tell one way or the other based on this WC.
  13. Chile and Spain are through. Just reward for the best two teams in the group.
  14. That shot took a wicked deflection, but Chile deserved a goal (and deserve to go through, imho)
  15. If you are referring to the card: I don't think it was a dive, but it wasn't t wasn't a foul either, they just accidentally bumped in to each other.
  16. Spain score and Chile gets a red card. I guess this one's over.
  17. That was a PK right there.
  18. Michael Ballack moves from Chelsea back to Bayer Leverkusen, where he played from 1999-2002
  19. Looking forward to a couple of good match-ups today. Portugal v Brazil and Chile v Spain should be fun to watch.
  20. If so, why not for the other three? :? Because of that list, Victor Valdez, Pepe Reina and Julio Caesar are equal or better. And of teams not on that list that obviously should be, Iker Casillas is better. Gianluigi Buffon is harder to call. I see your point. Spain has ridiculous depth. 8-)
  21. Chelsea extends Anelka's contract for an extra year (through 2012). Way to put up the middle finger to the French FA. 8-)
  22. If so, why not for the other three? :?
  23. ESPN did a pretty clear analysis of the play with their axis thingamajig showing that it was onsides. The foot was even with the defender while the body was behind. And considering all 3 parties involved were stationary (both players and the linesman), I don't know how that's missed. At worsts it's even and the benefit of the doubt should go to the US. http://www.sporza.be/permalink/1.809185 Stop it at 18 seconds whit the line graphics on, then reread my post. If this had been an Algerian goal, you'd be calling blue murder using my argument. I still say this one can get called either way. Slit second decision by the linesman that doesn't look obviously wrong even with the benefit of technology. Time for me to retract; I just saw a detailed analysis of that call on Belgian TV (they spent a couple of minutes on this using every tech tool available to them) - that was a valid goal, and should have stood. My bad.
  24. I loved the ovation they got walking on.
