  1. Here's the current list (UEFA team ranking): 1 FC Barcelona Esp 2 Manchester United Eng 3 Chelsea Eng 4 Arsenal Eng Liverpool Eng 6 Bayern München Ger 7 Sevilla Esp 8 Internazionale Ita 9 AC Milan Ita 10 Olympique Lyon Fra Where does he go? I don't think he'll go anywhere until Moyes does. People rarely pay top dollar to acquire keepers who are under contract. He could start for 7 of those team though. Seriously? let's see: 1 FC Barcelona Esp: Victor Valdes is signed for next season, is part of the Spanish WC selection and has played for the Barça organisation since 2000 - not going to happen 2 Manchester United Eng: Edwin Van der Sar; he'll turn 40 in the fall - OK, Howard would be a definite improvement (regardless of age) 3 Chelsea Eng: Petr Cech; doubt this is happening 4 Arsenal Eng: they sure need a good goalkeeper, but Lloris and Pyatov are rumoured to top their list. Flexible as they are, they'd be stupid not to consider Howard Liverpool Eng: Jose Manuel Reina: part of Spain's WC squad, I highly doubt this 6 Bayern München Ger: Hans-Joerg Butt; part of Germany's WC selection and Bayern's CL final squad - not happening 7 Sevilla Esp: Andres Palop - good point, Howard is far better. 8 Internazionale Ita: Julio Cesar - seriously???? 9 AC Milan Ita: Dida - is rumoured to move on, so may be possible 10 Olympique Lyon Fra: Hugo Lloris is rumoured to favour staying, but see Arsenal above. If he moves, Howard should be in the picture I make that four possibles, not seven,
  2. From 2006 finalists to last in their groups in 2010. Lessons learned: never squeeze one last WC campaign out of an ageing team. It's better to rebuild from scratch.

  4. Top 50: good chance Top 30: only if ESPN makes the list. I'd say between 40 and 50
  5. hahahahahahaha That is incredible. It's fantastic. Thanks for that link. :D
  6. I would advise against underestimating any team that makes the last 16. Should be a good game.
  7. ESPN did a pretty clear analysis of the play with their axis thingamajig showing that it was onsides. The foot was even with the defender while the body was behind. And considering all 3 parties involved were stationary (both players and the linesman), I don't know how that's missed. At worsts it's even and the benefit of the doubt should go to the US. http://www.sporza.be/permalink/1.809185 Stop it at 18 seconds whit the line graphics on, then reread my post. If this had been an Algerian goal, you'd be calling blue murder using my argument. I still say this one can get called either way. Slit second decision by the linesman that doesn't look obviously wrong even with the benefit of technology. The announcer said FIFA said calls should give benefit of the doubt to attacking player, so if the call could go either way, as you say, doesn't that mean it should be not called offsides? FIFA's laws of the game Where does it say so? The interesting bit in this context is on page 100:
  8. The referee's nationality is irrelevant (unless you believe in conspiracy theories). Look at the footage and tell me what you see.

  10. The disallowed goal was a call that could have gone either was and remains debatable even after several stop motion viewings of the footage. Their feet seem to be in the same position relative to the goal line, but the US player's body looks like it's over that foot, while the Algerian player is leaning forward. As the linesman was perfectly positioned, from his point of view the US player's body may have looked closer to the goal line. Even with video review, you can debate this call till the cows come home.
  11. No thanks to the Belgian ref!!! :P Haven't seen anything (I was at work) and so I'll reserve judgment until I've seen some proper TV coverage of the events that were contested in this thread.
  12. Grats on winning the group, guys. I'll have a couple of beers after volley practice to celebrate.
  13. Nice goal by Argentina
  14. Greece doesn't look like a team that needs to score
  15. FINALLY !!!
  16. South Korea is leading 1-2 btw
  17. Forward thinking, I like that. 8-)
  18. I thought I remember reading Saturday or Sunday Second of group C plays Sunday 06/27 at 16.00 CET Winner of group C plays Saturday 06/26 at 20.30 CET
  19. Fifa has to step in and start reviewing cards. I doubt this happens till someone replaces Blatter though. 10 Cards in the last match. 4 in the 1st 25 minutes. The ref for the Germany-Serbia match was card-happy also. Frank De Bleeckere will be the referee for the USA-Algeria game. You've been warned. 8-)
  20. I beg to differ; it's a natural reaction to put your arm between yourself and whatever/whoever is coming towards you to hit you ETA: Keita should have been red-carded for his blatant kick on the ankles of Bastos anyway.
  21. Keïta ran in to him; you can't expect Kaka to disappear in to the ground.
  22. Keïta should be suspended for the rest of the tournament for that piece of acting [expletive].
  23. Brazil look very good today - they are going to be tough to beat.
  24. The French team is a complete joke; today's episode makes for some great TV though. The guy that resigned was livid.
  25. New Zealand control their own destiny: a win against Paraguay assures they go through.
