  1. 18 yr old Belgian international Romelu Lukaku moves from Anderlecht to Chelsea (pending a physical) for an undisclosed amount. Bummer for the local league.
  2. Transfer news: Daniel Cruz to Dallas from Beerschot (that's a club from Antwerp)
  3. Kljestan is already in Belgium. (sorry, couldn't resist)
  4. A couple of intriguing match-ups in the CL play-offs to determine who gets in to the group stages: Arsenal v Udinese Twente v Benfica And in the EL play-offs, I guess Spurs will be very pleased with Hearts as their next opponents.
  5. including wales and macedonia??? imho yes, including Wales and Macedonia
  6. That group A is about as wide open as it gets - any one of those teams could go through, imho. No prizes for guessing which one I'm hoping for.
  7. 2009 - Aroldis Chapman was the strikeout champ that year with 130
  8. Hindsight is always 20/20. If, at the time, Hendry would have passed on the Fukudome sweepstakes to get Swisher, he would have gotten the usual "our GM is an idiot" treatment on NSBB.
  9. Liverpool have signed US teenager Villyan Bijev according to this report (and others). My attention to this was drawn by local newspapers who report he will be on loan to RC Genk (who will be defending their title in the Belgian league starting next weekend).
  10. So the deal has been done http://www.sporza.be/polopoly_fs/1.1071269!image/797675855.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape470/797675855.jpg
  11. I'm a traditionalist - I like it the way it is. TBH, I prefer the old FA cup way: keep playing replay games until you get a result. That would never work in international tournaments though. Isn't golden goal the traditional way? I thought silver goal was introduced within the last 20-30 years. Those were both were experiments from the late 90's, early 00's. The traditional way is 2x15mins extra time, then a penalty shoot-out.

  13. Depends - if you wait until the keeper moves (like that first Japanese PK) it can work. Best is off course to put it as close to the post as possible, and either high or very low - anything too close to the center and mid-height is asking for trouble. I know. Wambach did show the right way to do it (on a very short run-up) as did the final Japanese girl.
  14. Dunno. No male goalkeeper would have stopped that final Japanese PK. But the US have only themselves to blame for not finishing this in regulation time, imho. First Japanese win ever against the US after 22 losses and 3 draws, apparently.
  15. Nice first half, but the US are living dangerously by not putting away any of those chances.
  16. Nice start to the game (which is live on Belgian TV, btw)
  17. Nothing yet from Dutch sources, only the FOX Sports story being cited. ETA: apparently confirmed on Twitter: @jozyaltidore17 2 mil Euros w/performance bonuses and resell % that would get it close to the $10 mil Villarreal paid NY. So in a sense they're betting on him, but the Eredivisie has always been kind to strikers so it looks to be an ok deal for everyone. De Telegraaf (a reputable newpaper in The Netherlands) is reporting the deal between AZ and Jozy as done, but still some minor issues to be ironed out between AZ and Villareal.

  19. Terrible defense on that one. Just like Brazil losing Wambach and giving her a free header, I don't know how you lose her on a corner kick. She's the last player on the team that should be left open. Wambach is a mismatch against anyone on Japan, but the US has to do a better job on maintaining possession. Surely the US are heavy favourites for the final?
  20. It just alternated, right? It alternated prior to 2003.
  21. I guess everyone here noticed Mexico were eliminated from the Copa America after losing all three games in the first round.
  22. Why are you being a dick I wasn't bashing you for anything. I clearly dont have the soccer experience or knowledge that you have. Do you make fun of a toddler for not knowing how to speak? It's not like I came in here saying I was all knowing and watched FIFA all the time, I don't, which is quite obvious. Are you a woman? The standard test to find out is to ask him to explain the offside rule. Do you tell them who FIFA wants to win the game first? Otherwise it's really hard to know how that will be called. Or do you mean the actual rule? It was a reference to a beer commercial on TV (the gender of a drag queen at the bar is questioned by a group of men in the bar; so one of them goes up to him/her and asks to explain the offside rule. After getting a perfect explanation, he goes back to his friends and simply says: "it's a man")
  23. Since you're going to play that game: I played competitive soccer for 18 years (granted, at the lowest level of the Belgian FA's official league) and the red card rule hasn't changed since I started playing in 1972. Local FA's do tinker with the rules sometimes in specific circumstances (usually youth or reserve competitions or tournaments) - I remember an experiment with mandatory substitution after a yellow card - but big rule changes at the professional level are extremely rare. The one I remember most vividly was when a goalkeeper was no longer allowed to handle a ball that was played back to him (except when it was headed back) - as a defender, that one took some time to adjust to. Does "handle" mean touch with hands only in this case? Part of sections 15 of FIFA's laws of the game: .
