  1. Chris Robinson is listed on Canada's roster. Yao-Lin Wang is listed on Taiwan's roster And there's a couple of former farmhands in Dwayne Kemp (Netherlands) end Alessandro Maestri (Italy) also present.
  2. If it's the NYT system of limited free views, I guess I'll still be using those to read Bruce's blog.
  3. As far as I'm concerned that was another frustrating performance by Belgium; for parts of the game they showed just how good they can be but they also demonstrated that the finishing remains a serious problem (probably need a fit Vleminckx up front for that). The final 20 minutes (after the triple substitution) was absolutely dreadful. Lukaku played like he wasn't fit at all. Loved the flashes from the Hazard-Mertens combo though.
  4. Fellaini, Hazard and Vertonghen are reported to be out (minor injuries) for the game.
  5. Now you've distracted me from watching the actual game.
  6. Last minute deals: Meireles to Chelsea, Arteta to Arsenal
  7. Bryan Ruiz to Fulham reported as a done deal for 12 million euro. ETA Benayoun to Arsenal according to his twitter.
  8. According to Voetbal International (in dutch), Ruiz will need to be convinced that Fulham's lucrative offer is worth the move - he's on record as only wanting to move to play in the CL. Just to add spice to the discussion: Fulham and Twente play each other in the Europa League in two weeks.
  9. Deadline day is here - let the fun begin. :D it appears Modric and Tevez won't be part of it though - they are not moving. Bryan Ruiz to Fulham is still being discussed but not final ... yet. Joe Cole on loan from Liverpool to Lille for the rest of season.
  10. It also means that, in his own opinion, he has zero chance of making it to the Mannschaft. Yeah. With all the recent defections to the US team as plan B, I'm getting the sense that Lowe and the German FA have no problem being straight with guys who aren't in their plans. They're pretty up front about it. US Soccer has no problem calling somebody up just to cap tie them and then never contact them again for years. Especially Mexican dual-nationalists. I get the feeling it's become more of a problem in recent years - "big" nations like Germany probably couldn't care less, but for a nation like Belgium the dilemma for some talented second generation immigrants (primarily from Morocco) has become a bit of a problem. The Mehdi Carcela saga (plays for Standard Liège, Moroccan mother, Spanish dad, grew up in Belgium) made clear just how difficult such a decision can be for a young player. He eventually chose Morocco (obviously Spain was never an option).
  11. It also means that, in his own opinion, he has zero chance of making it to the Mannschaft.
  12. wtf? Who did Schalke bribe to get such an easy draw?
  13. Europa league draw starts in under 30 minutes. I hadn't realized so many big names were eliminated earlier this week: Roma, Seville, Celtic, Rangers, Panathinaikos, Spartak Moscow, Partizan Belgrade. Not a single Scottish team left - that'll hurt their country rankings (and number of places in the future)
  14. Group A is going to be tons of fun. And BATE Berisov also made the group stage on 08/09. (eliminating Anderlecht on their way, that's how I knew) ETA: nice draw for Genk - a crowd puller (Chelsea) and a short away trip (Leverkusen is only 80 miles away)
  15. Eto'o to Anzji Machatsjkala is reported as a done deal. His salary there will be a lot more than what Christiano Ronaldo is making at Real.
  16. This thread already is an NSBB classic.
  17. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-spt-0818-rogers-cubs-draft-chicago20110818,0,428597.column http://networkedblogs.com/kzUJf Yep, right here: http://www.antilliaansdagblad.com/images/stories/adnews/2011/juli/19-07-11/p11.pdf
  18. Dnjepopetrovsk (or however the hell you spell that) is actually a well established side in European cup soccer - Belgian teams have met them a number of times.
  19. Credibility of NCAA enforcement will be tested by Miami allegations seems about right as a conclusion.
  20. There were times in the past where I would check the box score in the morning and then proceed to the game thread expecting four pages of irrational mayhem after a finish like last night. This just shows the forum has given up on the Cubs season a long time ago ...
  21. Those two, and BA still has Andreoli (17th round) listed as unsigned.
  22. Neither had I until they bought Mbark Boussoufa from Anderlecht in the spring (for an insane fee and salary). They also have Roberto Carlos (who is their captain) and Joeri Zjirkov (ex-Chelsea), so it sounds like a club owner with very deep pockets. As it's a team from Dagestan better not ask too many questions about how he got his money.
  23. In AZ Alkmaar's first competition game, Jozy came on after 66 minutes, scored after 80 (their third in a 3-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven) and got a yellow after 88. So a busy half hour for him
