  1. Interesting you bring up Grace... in 16 seasons, he accumulated 46.4 bWAR. Molina, in a helpfully equal 16 seasons has accumulated..... 40.2 bWAR Now, fangraphs has Grace at 45.5 and Molina at 54, to be fair. But they're overwhelmingly similar players according to WAR, and Molina derives a great deal of value from his defense while Grace gets little to no value added from defense. And I think we can all agree that measuring defensive value is inexact at best.
  2. pretty sure UK was talking about James Daniels, not Chase Daniel
  3. If KB is moved, it's because someone came and said "Here's what we will give you" and then Theo convinced them to add another piece or two. They arent calling and asking "What will you give us for our MVP 3rd baseman?"
  4. Shut down everyone important. Javy, KB. Rizzo, Schwarbs, Willson, any pitcher you want to count on next year... just shut it down.
  5. Contreras fits that sweet spot where he has a lot of value, but is also the easiest to replace with what is on the current roster. Vic + a good defensive backup can probably provide similar value if you place a high value on framing, calling a game. Also, Willson is probably going to get the biggest return of all the options not named KB/Javy.
  6. Bench coach?
  7. How are they unsure of bunt coverage with Rizzos ankle held together with cortisone and duct tape?
  8. So they miss the call on the pickoff, then what could have very easily been strike 3... Then we do that anyway. Not very 2019 Cubs.
  9. Soft singles like that one to Wong drive me insane...
  10. If you don't want Contreras at C, you trade him for the best package you can get. He is a top 5 catcher by oWar (M. Garver, Grandal, Realmuto, and G Sanchez ahead of him this year). He'd be average in the OF as far as offensive value, and probably a negative defensively. Also, to stay with the thread topic - Maddon put Tony Kemp at leadoff for a game they played while in the midst of the stretch run of the playoffs, and it wasn't even his worst move in the series so far. Fire him, get someone else in, make some personnel changes and see what happens.
  11. Dont recall the number of moves allowed, but if I have one left: Drop Baez Add E Suarez
  12. As a Bears fan, the team that scares me the most in the NFC is the Bears.
  13. Drop: Carlos Correa (DH - $50) Add: Max Kepler (DH - $50) Drop: Mookie Betts (OF - $100) Add: Ronald Acuna (OF - $75) Drop: Jose Altuve (2B - $50) Move: Anthony Rendon (3B->2B) Add: Nicholas Castellanos (3B - $75)
  14. Lester should never be mentioned in that category. We always knew there would be a decline toward the end of the deal, and that decline has actually been relatively modest to this point. No matter what happens with him from here on out, he has lived up to his contract and more. Agreed. All I'm saying is his salary outpaces his production significantly now, and since the Ricketts decided to be cheap, that hinders us
  15. The problem with the Cubs roster construction is that it always depended on the young guys being awesome and cheap. Only KB and Javy have been consistently good, though Willy had a great year (pre-injury) this year after an awful one last year. Getting very little (compared to what we hoped for) from Schwarber, Russell, Almora, and Happ in addition to Heyward, Morrow, Darvish (until the last couple months), and maybe Lester now struggling to live up to their deals (or even completely falling apart) has made for the perfect storm of frustrating baseball.
  16. If Javy went to the plate lefty against the pirates, how many pitches would it take before he got plunked?
  17. Had a friend who was in college a few years ago, healthy, clean-living, etc. Had a bit of a cold or something similarly small, took some OTC medicine, didnt wake up the next morning. 22 years old, a couple months from college graduation and she just didn't get up one morning. Please do not rush to assume Skaggs was into something bad. It may well be proven eventually that he was, but right now I'm thinking awful tragedy and nothing else.
  18. I'm pretty sure we have to give him a lifetime contract now.
  19. drop: Josh Donaldson (Bench) Add: Pete Alonso
  20. I feel like this is an example of the competitive advantage the AL teams have in acquiring players. Cubs could have given up a Cory Abbott or whatever comparable pitcher and used Edwin to mash some dongs, but since they have Rizzo at first there's no spot for him.
  21. I don't care if Hultzen can pitch multiple innings or two days in a row if we can just feel confident when he comes in the game.
  22. and if he whines about it, pay him with a suitcase full of nickels and tell him to go away
