  1. i meant mlb in general, not mlb as in the owners vs the players. it's going to look bad for baseball if nba/nhl show that a bubble would have worked. Right, a bubble seems like the clear smartest thing to do to mitigate virus spread. But it never seemed like it was a realistic thing for MLB to do for whatever reason(s). I'm sure the sheer numbers of MLB teams/traveling parties was a big hindrance to a bubble. I mean, we're probably at 50 people per team at a bare minimum, right? 30 teams, you've got 1500 as probably a baseline amount of people. And then having limited facilities that are usable, given that the only places with a high concentration of parks are Arizona and Florida, which are basically COVID-central right now in addition to being pretty inhospitable for playing in July and August, doesn't seem like an MLB bubble was feasible on the scale needed.
  2. Pat was speculating last night that Kimbrel might have been having trouble with his grip on the knuckle curve because of the humid and hot conditions
  3. Willson's younger brother into the game for Atlanta
  4. Anyone else want them to take Rizzo out so he doesn't tweak his back now that he's shown he's good to go?
  5. I feel like they need to trade down from 50 now, because they need a DB and an OL. Kmet may be a pretty good player, but you just gave Jimmy Graham a bunch of money and you have literally 9 TEs on the roster already.
  6. I've got about a dozen guys I'd be pumped about the Bears picking at 43/50, and that doesn't include any DL/Edge guys. Would like to see a DB with the first pick, then maybe a trade down with the second to try and pick up a couple extra mid round picks
  7. The article says they're considering trading Correa so that they can extend Springer...
  8. Man, Yu has been as diplomatic as possible with this whole thing, and Yelich goes and pulls that.
  9. In a 'everyone gets 2 off weeks' year, we always seem to get one flat out stinker, and this is that, but there are still a couple of intriguing matchups. #Illinutgers
  10. Luhnow is just like Taubman except he’s just smart enough to not say the really bad things out loud. But you can tell he just doesn’t give a horsefeathers at all. Well, he was previously employed by the Cardinals.
  11. couple of questions... 1. Do you think the ball has really been "de-juiced" this postseason? 2. If yes, do you think that carries over into 2020? 3. How do you think that impacts the Cubs? My opinion on 3 is that it should theoretically help the Cubs, because our power hitters (KB, Rizzo, Javy, Willson, and Schwarber) don't seem to hit a lot of cheap HRs, but our pitching was hurt a lot by the HR ball - especially Yu, who gave up the 8th most in MLB this year. And it seemed like Kyle would get bit by the HR ball badly in his blow-up games.
  12. I know we have mostly written off any KB deal, but if you make one, I feel like it has to start with an all star caliber ML player AND a top 50ish prospect. Dude has won an MVP already, and while he has had injury issues, he has looked to be improving upon that MVP season before getting hurt each of the last two years.
  13. Interesting you bring up Grace... in 16 seasons, he accumulated 46.4 bWAR. Molina, in a helpfully equal 16 seasons has accumulated..... 40.2 bWAR Now, fangraphs has Grace at 45.5 and Molina at 54, to be fair. But they're overwhelmingly similar players according to WAR, and Molina derives a great deal of value from his defense while Grace gets little to no value added from defense. And I think we can all agree that measuring defensive value is inexact at best.
  14. pretty sure UK was talking about James Daniels, not Chase Daniel
  15. If KB is moved, it's because someone came and said "Here's what we will give you" and then Theo convinced them to add another piece or two. They arent calling and asking "What will you give us for our MVP 3rd baseman?"
  16. Shut down everyone important. Javy, KB. Rizzo, Schwarbs, Willson, any pitcher you want to count on next year... just shut it down.
  17. Contreras fits that sweet spot where he has a lot of value, but is also the easiest to replace with what is on the current roster. Vic + a good defensive backup can probably provide similar value if you place a high value on framing, calling a game. Also, Willson is probably going to get the biggest return of all the options not named KB/Javy.
  18. Bench coach?
  19. How are they unsure of bunt coverage with Rizzos ankle held together with cortisone and duct tape?
  20. So they miss the call on the pickoff, then what could have very easily been strike 3... Then we do that anyway. Not very 2019 Cubs.
  21. Soft singles like that one to Wong drive me insane...
