  1. I definitely want him back. Maddening side-arm throwing style notwithstanding, he has been pretty great with the bat since rejoining the lineup full time. I think his confidence is back and he can be very valuable next year.
  2. To whomever suggested that the Cubs aren't "creative" enough to make a deal.... ...does Nomar in a 4 way trade jog your memory? Especially considering Hendry engineered the whole thing? That said, I don't really want either of those guys.
  3. If he shows no improvement or return to 2003 form next spring, I'll be worried. Any starts "post-Hawpe" have to be judged differently this year I think.
  4. Ty Cobb sharpened his spikes. Gaylord Perry threw spit balls. People steal signs, scuff balls, and a huge variety of other actions that are cheating. There is some speculation that the 1917 World Series wasn't the only one that was thrown to get a big pay off. Conversely, shouldould Ruth, Cobb, etc. records get an asterisk because they played in an era where non-whites were barred from playing in the MLB?
  5. Now just need to go 7-2 for a winning record. Easy, right? It's just 7 against HOU...
  6. ha ha. Pitch him on Saturday, then Monday, then Thursday, then Sunday. What? Cy Young would've done it (while pitching out of the pen inbetween starts). Today's pitchers are girls.
  7. I guess I'm just splitting hairs betwen admitted steroid use (which MLB can't prosecute) and a positive drug test (which they can). either way, I hold by my argument that steroids or not, he has the best eye at the plate I've ever seen. If steroids added to his HR totals, fine. I think he would still be great if all those HR's were 2B's instead.
  8. stabbing the first base ump and urinating on the mascot isn't illegal under baseball rules either...but you can't do either of those things. steroids are illegal (by america rule book standards), and they gave him an unfair advantage over other players. he probably would have been a HOFer w/o the steroids, but we can never know for sure. if he took them. Which hasn't been proven. Innocent until proven guilty He admitted taking them. He said he just didn't know they were steroids. He was told it was magic pixie dust. Was this part of the leaked testimony? I honestly don't remember. I believe it was. Except for the Pixiedust. So, to be technical, everyone is indicting him on a piece of testimony that wasn't meant to be made public, and which the courts have chosen not to act on to this point. MMMkay.
  9. The best would be a game with not game thread. "If a game is played but not game thread is made, does it make a sound?"

  12. BTW, I would have gone with this lineup: 1. Bullett - LF 2. Rhodes - CF 3. Timmons - RF 4. Zuleta - 1B 5. Buechele - 3B 6. Servais - C 7. Martinez - 2B 8. Sanchez - SS 9. A. Young - P
  13. Cubs need to go 7-3 the rest of the way for a .500 record, 8-2 for a winning record. ALRIGHT!
  14. Despite the mountain of evidence that seemingly links him with steroids, he still hasn't tested positive. Additionally, steroids weren't illegal in baseball until the 2003 season. If people want to get all "asterisky" about his numbers, you'll have to keep the single season HR record intact, as that happened before he broke any rules (by the MLB rulebook's standards)
  15. Of course. What wasn't fun about this year?
  16. I think his address is: winnineezfung@ozzieball.gov
  17. I'm not going argue any more on this subject until/if he actually tests positive for something. Specualation makes my pockets hurt.
  18. Joe Torre still doesn't crack my top five. If he can't win with the talent he has this year, I'm not sure why we would want him other than the "name" factor. Other than managing the Yankees, has Torre ever won? Torre has won a heck of a lot more games for the Yankees the past decade than the Cubs have. And the fact that that team is in first place despite long term injuries to Pavano, Wright, Mussina, Brown, and to a lesser extent, Johnson. That's incredible. Given those injuries, the Cubs would be a 4th place team. Oh wait....
  19. Wow, go Nomar! 2 feet from a Granny!
  20. FSN North announcer: "...and Patterson continues to disapoint the Cubs." ](*,)
  21. Here's my argument against Bonds and steroids: Bonds hasn't made a career of hitting 500 ft. homers. It's not like he's putting Adam Dunn swings on these pitches. He hits so many homers because he has the best eye at the plate i've ever seen, has a lightning quick bat (he chokes up too), and he NEVER misses a mistake. The argument for him taking steroids would be his enormous head.
  22. Less than a page per inning on this thread. It's official: NO ONE CARES
  23. how the writers will vote: NL MVP - A Jones NL CY - Carpenter AL MVP - whoever has a better final series in BoS vs. NYY head to head AL CY - I have no idea, but can't imagine them giving it to a guy who currently has just 14 wins (over ones with 20, 17, etc.)
  24. Wouldn't you rather have him strike out a little more over grounding into double plays? 21 is downright pathetic. Especially considering the amount of times he actually comes to the plate with runners on. 326 at bats this year, Neifi has come to the plate with no one on. 202 times, he's come to the plate with runners on, 21 of those times have resulted in a GIDP. That would have been 21 more opportunities for Lee and Co. to drive in 21 more runs. Give Neifi 21 more outs to put towards his OBP for making two outs instead of 1. Now his OBP looks even worse. But, let's keep batting him at the top of the order since it's worked out so well this year. he should bat no higher than 9th
