  1. Neifi was never batted in the right slot. But though he has just 17 BB (thus the .301 OBP), he has only struck out 43 times in 528 AB's. Plus who thought he could get you 52 RBI? That's just 5 fewer than Barrett, who was also batted in the wrong slot. Baker don't know slots.
  2. No offense, but where the heck is KEVIN ORIE?
  3. I don't know about the rest of you, but the things that are really upsetting to me are: Top 5 payroll, bottom half of the league results. 1908 - the drought, not the moderator. The lack of attention to the lack of walks taken by hitters and excess of walks given by pitchers - by far, the two biggest reasons for lack of team success. 74-77. Don't forget: could finish behind the brewers could finish behind the expos/nationals will finish behind the white sox
  4. The Cubs magic number to be eliminated from playoff contention is 4. #-o
  5. If the Sox are winning, you mute during their half of the inning, then you turn the volume back on for their opponent assuming it's a close game. There's no better sound in baseball than the sound of silence emerging from the White Sox booth when they lose a lead. Isn't that wierd? I mean, you can hear a pin drop. Most announcers lament their own team's inadequacies, or marvel at what the other team just did. Those guys just clam up completely. I wish they would clam up more often. Compared to the Caray/Stone days, it's like night and day. Caray and Stone would fill every second of the broadcast with announcing, while it seemed like 50% of a Sox game is dead air. What do they pay those guys for? (well, I know DJ is paid to carry Hawk's jock around for him  )
  6. Anything the Cubs can do to increase the OBP at the top and improve the situational hitting and hitting with RISP will dramatically change this team. And they can't count on Lee to give them this type of season again. They should count on not higher than .280/35/90 again when evaluating who they need to add in run production slots in the order. Hopefully I'm wrong and Lee will stay hot next year, but the Cubs have a bad habit of counting on guys having career years two seasons in a row
  7. You hear similar arguments in basketball when you talk about "Players" vs. "Athletes". Some organizations always draft the best athletes and hope they can make players out of them. Some draft more complete players, though they may not be the quickest, strongest, or tallest in the league. It's things like the pitcher not covering first on a grounder to the right side, baserunning gaffes, missing the cutoff man, etc. that are really upsetting. This should be taught from rookie ball up, and should be practiced in spring training. No excuses.
  8. I would argue that Baker "owes" it to Hendry to play the players given to him. If Hendry wants to see Murton play, that's what Baker should do. End of argument.
  9. But slightly ahead of Steve Buechele and in a tie with Gary Gaetti
  10. But not for Maddux, whose quest for 15 wins is horrifyingly similar to McGriff's quest for 30 HR at the expense of Choi
  11. He's famous enough to get what the rest of us "common" Cubs fans have been saying into print. Good enough for me.
  12. Well because you don't want to make it too easy for West Tenn to compete in the Southern League Finals. Think they could've used Theriot?
  13. Record for .500 - 7-4 Record for winning season - 8-3 Right, good luck with those
  14. Turnbow warming up. Is he still as unhittable as he was earlier in the year?
  15. That would extrapolate out to 36 HR over a full season BTW. Not enough power to play LF everyday? Oh, right, no one has the book on him yet.
  16. Jesus, FSN North jsut showed that strikeout from every conceivable angle. We get it!
  17. RISP is just pathetic on this team. Unbelievable. Lee has been pwn3d by Davis so far. Due?
  18. Neifi swinging at the first pitch? Hell you say!
  19. KC or Detroit? There should be a total of 5 series. 2 against the Sox, plus 3 more against other AL Central teams. The Twins/Indians Series, which one is home, and which one is away? Don't know. Didn't we play the Twins at the dome last time?
  20. And always start on the road, and always have that stupid friggin "Monday-Wednesday-Thursday" series. I HATE THAT!
  21. Why would you rather have Neifi at SS than Walker at 2nd? It makes no sense to purposefully downgrade a position. As crappy as he's been this year, Neifi is capable of much worse. Because I'm realistic enough to know that Baker will demand Neifi back, so I'm going to live with that as a reality. Lofton is a Baker guy too...
  22. In a quote in the Sun Times today, Baker through out the "they don't have the book on him yet" line again.
  23. Sign Lofton for 1 year. Re-sign Nomar on the cheap. If you can't get Furcal, re-sign Neifi and bat him 8th. Get a lefty hitting RF. 1. Lofton - CF 2. Murton - LF 3. Lee - 1B 4. Ramirez - 3B 5. Giles/Dunn/Floyd/??? - RF 6. Nomar - 2B 7. Barrett - C 8. Neifi - SS
