  1. Too true. I was really rooting for Stanford just to make all this argument academic, but they didn't cooperate.
  2. I think that West Virginia and Louisville are just as good as any of the one or 2 loss teams. If Colorado and/or Florida St win will that knock ND out of the BCS? I mean who do they pick Texas or ND or do they drop Ohio State? I think that something has to be done about these Conference Playoff games. At least the team with the best conference record goes in the BE but to have these 4 loss teams go in automatically is a joke. What would be worse IMO is if college football had a playoff the fact that Florida St or Colorado would be one of the 8 or 16 teams would just be wrong. I think Ohio State is out the window if USC or Texas goes down because those teams would become at-larges. If they both lost, ND and OSU are both probably out. If Va Tech loses, IMO they are probably out of the at-large picture and are headed for the Gator Bowl. And that's a problem. OSU lost to the current #2 and #3 teams in the BCS. ND lost to the current #1 and #NR in the BCS. And yet OSU would get screwed.
  3. I think the ND hatred comes from the fact that they seemingly play by different rules than everyone else. Considering there are less than 10 independent schools, I would be all for a rule stating every division 1-A school MUST be in a conference. Then we wouldn't keep having this argument
  4. Does anybody else find this pretty funny? I'm not sure bowl comittees are bright enough for irony
  5. Haven't you heard? It doesn't matter. It's not their fault that their super tough schedule ended up being weak, so you can't hold it against them, and every other team plays weak teams, and they are Notre Dame and God loves them and so does Lou Holtz so they belong in the Fiesta Bowl.
  6. Why would Giles want to go play CF in that park?
  7. I hear there's some sort of football game going on next Saturday at the LA Coliseum. Might even be an important one. Orange County High School Playoffs?
  8. How would UCLA get screwed. They would win the PAC-10 and get an automatic berth, right? I'm still unclear on this. I thought I read that USC could lose and still win the PAC-10 If UCLA defeats USC, there would be a 3-way tie for first place (Oregon, USC, UCLA). Then they'd go to losses against common opponents - losing to a worse team is worse. Obviously, UCLA will be eliminated there. Obviously it's their fault for losing to a bad Arizona team. But that 1 loss has more than likely eliminated UCLA from a BCS game, which I think is a screw job. If UCLA beats USC they should get an at-large over ND since ND's claim to fame is that they almost beat USC. You and your logic are not welcome here!
  9. That spelling is the gayest thing I've ever seen.
  10. Terry Adams just signed a minor league deal with Philly or Toronto or somewhere.....
  11. Fighting Illini and Fighting Irish both suck. The players on the field (as well as the student body in general) or mostly NOT Irish or Illini
  12. Orton sucks, but they win. It's not like Grossman can make them win MORE. What, do the Bears get two victories today if Grossman is in? I'm not sure you throw a guy who has missed 20+ straight regular season games into the middle of a legit playoff push
  13. Yeah, you'd think the networks would want as many gold helmets as possible
  14. Here we are, last weekend of the regular season! BCS UPDATE --------------- Penn State (Big Ten Champ): IN West Virginia (Big East Champ): IN ACC Champ (Va Tech/Florida St.): TBD Big 12 Champ (Colorado/Texas): TBD SEC Champ (Georgia/LSU): TBD Notre Dame (9 wins): Eligible Auburn, Miami, Ohio St., Oregon, UCLA, Texas Tech, Va Tech (if they lose), Texas (if they lose), USC (if they lose), LSU (if they lose) all at-large posibilities. BOWL UPDATE ---------------- Arkansas St. (New Orleans Bowl) Toledo (GMAC Bowl) BYU (Las Vegas Bowl) Colorado St. vs. Navy (Poinsettia Bowl) Arizona St. vs. Rutgers (Insight Bowl) Boise St. (MPC Computers Bowl) Utah (Emerald Bowl) Fresno St. (Liberty Bowl) TCU (Houston Bowl) Louisville (Gator Bowl) CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES --------------------------- Big Twelve: Colorado vs. (2) Texas ACC: Florida St. vs. (5) Virginia Tech SEC: (13) Georgia vs. (3) LSU OTHER GAMES ----------------- (11) UCLA vs. (1) USC Louisiana Tech vs. (23) Fresno St. (12) West Virginia vs. South Florida (17) Louisville vs. Connecticut Akron vs. Northern Illinois Tulsa vs. Central Florida Army vs. Navy

  16. We know WVa is in now, and it seems ND is in no matter what. OSU as well. So Oregon is probably screwed akready, and Va Tech will be out should they lose to Florida St. On the contrary, I think both Texas and USC can lose next week and make the BCS. Colordo would get the auto-berth (and likely play WVa in the Sugar), but Texas would bump OSU out of an at-large. UCLA could beat USC and STILL get screwed by a ND at-large
  17. Might make you feel a little better to know it is the last time ND will ever get a payout like that. My problem is not that it's ND, it's that the networks make such a big deal about ND's payout (as opposed to anyone else's). In other words, I don't care that ND gets that money, but don't make the outcome of the game ABOUT the money btw, what is ND's deal next year?
  18. Seems to me that when a team has an overcrowded outfield and one member says "play me or trade me", that player has basically written his own plane ticket out of town.
  19. I can actually watch this game today (they are showing it in my market), which means the Bears will get killed. If they lose, you can blame me.
  20. Was anyone else sickened with the frequency ABC flashed the $14.5 million bowl pay-out graphic during that game? I mean, c'mon! Are we supposed to be impressed that ND is getting all that money? The players don't see a dime of it. I'm not arguing that they should or shouldn't, but let's not say "purity of the college game" out of one side of our mouths and "huge payout" out of the other.
  21. Did you forget the likes of Derrick May, Scott Bullet, Ozzie Timmons, Steve Buechele, Rick Wilkins, etc. Not sure if they were all on the '96 team, but there were some rough players out there EDIT: http://baseball-almanac.com/teamstats/roster.php?y=1996&t=CHN
  22. I think USC could. Their one loss would be to UCLA, a top 25 team, wheras Oregon, PSU, etc.'s losses were to "lesser" teams. Plus the media has had Texas and USC in the Rose Bowl since August. It would be bad for business if that didn't happen  Oregon lost to USC. Right, I was thinking they lost to Arizona, but that was UCLA. Either way, I think USC could lose and still be in the Rose Bowl. The networks are infatuated with them. Too bad Iowa St. couldn't get the job done vs. Kansas. Now Gary Barnett and his thugs get another game. I hate him.

  24. I want your crystal ball. You're basically guaranteeing that Howry/Eyre will suck in the near future while Ryan will absolutely improve on his stats. The Cubs should hire you right away with such unbelievable skills of prognostication It's no mystery. Look at the up and down natures of Howry/Eyre over their careers and the short term improvement they've experienced at an older age. What's your projection for the future? Yeah, they'll both put up 2005 numbers for the life of their contracts. Look at how the blankety blanking numbers trend for Pete's sake (i gave a link earlier in the thread). This is a fundamental concept in business/science/engineering. Please have some evidence to support your POV instead of blind opinion while calling my opinion looking in a "crystal ball" when I have given justification for my stance. I'm just not in the business of trying to predict what players will/won't do. I'm not going to praise or condemn these moves until we see some actual stats in Cubbie uniforms from these two.
