  1. Except Pie should not hit 8th ever. Hello breaking balls galore Pie is going to get breaking balls no matter where he hits.
  2. Not me. It's wildcard or bust. To win the division they are chasing one team, Milwaukee. To win the WC they are chasing about 5 teams. That is a lot harder.
  3. After looking through some stats it is really hard to believe the Cubs record isn't better. Here is how they currently rank in NL Offensive stats: BA: .270 (1st) R: 354 (6th) OBP: .330 (6th) SLG: .421 (5th) OPS: .751 (5th) Pitching ERA: .390 (5th) BAA: .240 (2nd) OPS: .702 (4th) WHIP: 1.26 (3rd) Hopefully the record will continue to climb, based on these stats it should.
  4. That doesn't mean he didn't sell low, Patterson especially. Maybe Hendry, and other GM's just knew how limited Patterson's ability actually was.
  5. Silver says that the Cubs have selled low in many cases and brings up Hee Seop Choi as an example. Excuse me? How did the Cubs sell low on Choi? Too bad all they could get was Derrek Lee in that deal. He also uses Bellhorn as an example, and Patterson. I'm not losing sleep at night over losing them either. I agree that Hendry sends guys out and doesn't do enough to make sure he gets a decent return. So I agree with the premise of the article. But in all the examples he uses, I wouldn't necesarilly want any of those guys back on the team right now.
  6. I think he can be adequate at least. Seems to have a good approach at the plate. I just keep waiting for the dropoff here. If he keeps this up he'll secure himself a few ROY votes.
  7. I still think the WC will be tougher to get than the division. With the WC you are chasing 4-5 teams at once. That is a lot harder then just catching one team.
  8. It does suck, but just think how far back the Cubs would be without this current winning streak. I can live with it for now.
  9. All the Cubs can do is keep playing good baseball and getting above .500. Milwaukee is very hot as well, not much you can do about it. Taking 2/3 from them at minimum would be a good start.
  10. Easy there... Impressive sure, but one inning only.
  11. Waiting to see (if true) the overzealous celebration that will accompany this announcement around here. I'll be more excited when a move is made that improves this team and helps them win more ballgames. Im not saying I'll be sad to see Jacque go, but he has hardly played the last two weeks anyway so what difference does it really make?
  12. Well, you must carry some considerable clout around here... :D
  13. Give the guy a chance, then blast him if its crap. Its not out of the realm of possibillity that he knows something.
  14. NO HE HASN'T!!! If this is true, we have to see Izturis EVERYDAY at Short! Neither Fontenot nor DeRosa can play SS in the Major Leagues, well neither can Izturis apparently. This is would be a god awful resolution to the problem that we have. Why does Hendry have to torment us??? This will be the last straw, I will no longer defend Hendry in anyway, shape, or form if this is what he does. Dare I compare the passion for Theriot with some of the Cubs fanbase to the popularity of Eckstein to some Cardinal fans? Dare I guess that you play too many video games and just plug and play different infielders all across the diamond and it magically work? You've lost me... My video game days are long behind me. I was just comparing Theriot and Eckstein.
  15. But...But... Its The-Riot...doesn't that count for something?

  17. Sucks for Ryan, but Fontenot's emergence has made him more expendable.
  18. Flying up tomorrow for this game. Will be in attendance Monday and Tuesday night. Hopefully I will see 2 Cubs victories.
  19. when the Cubs do reach .500, some of us would like them to be 5 or 6 games out, not 8-9 games out. not exactly a silly concept. I must also admit to be a little confused with the whole "let the Brewers win all they want until we're over .500" concept. Yeah, thats exactly what I said. what you implied is we are more concerned with the Brewers losing than the Cubs winning. I don't think there is any evidence here that we are more concerned about the Brewers than the Cubs. check the length of the Cubs threads vs. 'other games' threads for evidence of exactly what is concerning us more. I did not imply that. Your welcome to do whatever you want, but personally I'll start paying more attention to the standings when the Cubs are a serious threat.
  20. The idea is the Cubs getting back to respectability. What does it say about the Cubs if they are 5-6 games back and still under .500? It means they aren't very good. I don't want Milwaukee to win all their games, but it isn't going to mean crap if the Cubs aren't winning.

  22. Is it September yet? Scoreboard watching galore!
