  1. Can't complain too much? Come on... That has to be an out. He made the right play and ran at the runner. He just got unlucky that the tag missed Lofton by a couple of inches. A true Cubs play would have been for Howry to throw behind Lofton allowing Lofton to advance to third. He made the right play initially, but once you have him committed to going back towards 2nd base you need to get rid of the ball. Howry held the ball for about 2 seconds too long and it cost him, and the game.

  3. This team is fraking little league caliber...
  4. I believe that team option is 16.5 million , not 6.5.
  5. Which is stupid. Bradley is a hot head, but gives you decent production for his contract. I could care less about him playing the race card. It is moronic, but hey this is a free country and he is entitled to his opinion. All I am saying is if the Cubs were that desperate to get rid of Barrett, there is no chance they pick up a guy who has a history as combustible as Bradley. I don't see how the two are related. They got rid of Barrett because Lou hated his defensive lapses and baserunning gaffes. And he can't put up with that at catcher. They didn't get rid of him because Zambrano wanted to fight him. So your buying Hendry's line that the Zambrano incident had nothing to do with it? I agree that the defensive and baserunning lapses played a role, but I think it is a bit naieve to believe that other issues didn't play some part as well.

  7. The Cubs just traded Barrett, despite what they say publicly, probably completely due to the Zambrano incident. I'd say there is about a 0.0000001% chance the Cubs would go after Bradley with his background.
  8. Well, I am in a hotel lobby in Barcelona Spain trying to keep up with the Cubs. it is 9pm here, told the wife I was going to check my e'mail, haha. Go Cubs
  9. I thought the Sox swindled the Cubs on that deal. Looks pretty uneventful both ways to me.
  10. So it is all Lou's fault that they have sucked? Your a reliever, when you get put in a game your job is to get people out regardless of the situation. Quit putting the blame on Lou for their ineffectiveness. Maybe the first couple times, but after it was apparent that Eyre and Howry couldn't be counted on in close/late situations, he ran them out there anyway, over and over. That's on him. He's the one putting the ineffective players in critical spots. So which relievers do you go with? You only have so many. It is also not Lou's decision to ship those guys out, so you have to use them at some point. Its not like there are many clearly better options, maybe 1 or 2.
  11. There's a difference between being held accountable and being called out and thrown under the bus. You can do one without the other. And regardless, this is the team Lou has to manage. He's not going to magically get a new roster. If his team isn't responding to his current methods, it's all on him to try and find a different way to get the team to succeed. Who has he thrown under the bus? Barrett, Ohman, Cotts, Eyre, Murton, Jones... I think your definition of "throwing under the bus" must be closely related to speaking the truth. Barrett, Ohman, Eyre, Cotts, and Jones have been brutal. What did he do with Murton? Lou has put those bullpen guys in spots where they are poised to fail though. He hasn't done them any favors. So it is all Lou's fault that they have sucked? Your a reliever, when you get put in a game your job is to get people out regardless of the situation. Quit putting the blame on Lou for their ineffectiveness.
  12. If the team was winning, that % would be microscopic. Yeah, nobody was complaining in 2003. I agree to an extent, but there is always going to be people upset. In 2003 it was Wood/Prior pitch counts, and probably rightfully so. But I still feel a good majority of those folks would have complained had Baker shut them down. "Those people" refer to nobody specifc, just trying to think back to the general themes of discussion from that year. They weren't really winning all that much in 2003. They won 88 games. It was a slightly above average season. I'm talking about if they had a good manager and the team was looking like a solid 95-100 win team. That's winning. Hey, its the Cubs, 2003 was the best I could do. I'd have to go pretty far back to find a 95-100 win Cub team. 8-)

  15. How much blame does Lou get for the team's struggles? 30%? 50%? The team has sucked all around, not just Lou. I would say much less than 30%. But that's not the point. It's not like the Cubs are missing anything without him on the bench. Agreed, and sadly that can be said for quite a few managers in MLB. Is there any reason that we shouldn't expect the Cubs to get one of the managers that actually bring something to the team though? Just because a lot of MLB managers suck, doesn't mean we should be content that ours does too. I'm not content at all. Who do you suggest? No matter who is managing this team, there is always going to be a % of people who complain regardless.

  19. Lou will serve his full contract length. Its been a tumultous week but will most likely be forgotten by July.
  20. It's ridiculous that you're arguing semantics -- whether or not you call a manager "coach" or he has the title "coach", he's still a coach. Splitting hairs like that is borderline trolling. Trolling? That is ridiculous. Lighten up, I meant it as a half-joke. It is true though, I've seen it over and over again in my travels mainly within minor league baseball. It ticks managers off to be called coach.
  21. Who is a terrible coach? Clearly I'm talking about Bryan Murray of the Ottawa Senators. Clearly you are not talking about Lou because he isn't a coach. He is a manager. his title is manager, he is a coach Call any minor league or major league manager a coach and see what kind of reaction you get. this is ridiculous What is? That it is false? Or ridiculous that would set them off?
  22. If they are frustrated they need to play better and not just blame it all on old mean Lou. Last thing they need is more excuses, but that has been the standard around this team since 03.

  24. If calling out the obvious in regards to your team causes you to "lose them" then so be it. I'm not buying it.
