  1. Trade for Lieber instead.
  2. I don't think it is that outrageous. A player like Izturis is going to be in either the #2 hole, or hitting 8th. I'd personally like to see Murton there. He didn't say Izturis was hitting 2nd for sure.
  3. Maybe 5 years ago. The kid has never ben above A ball, and has sat out two or three full seasons. There is no way he is in any position to be the Cubs CF for a long time. That said, there is no harm in picking him, but I don't think it is anything to get excited about. Read the follow-up discussion, if you haven't yet. As it turns out the Cubs drafted him in order to then spin him off to Cincinnati (apparently Cincinnati was afraid somebody else would draft him before it was their turn). I saw it. I wold apply the same reasoning to the Reds. There is no harm in taking the kid, but unless you can work out some kind of trade to keep him in the organization, I don't think there is much reason to be excited. He would have to be Superman to miss three full seasons, play 15 games of Low A-ball, and step right into a major leage team and succeed.
  4. Interesting move by the Sox. Wonder if they have something else in mind. I thnk they could have picked up a little more for Garland.

  6. Wow... Had no idea Bynum slugged over .450
  7. Yes. This has to be done. Hopefully quite soon.
  8. Steve Phillips was just on ESPNews and said he thinks Lilly with sign with the Cubs. He believes the yankees are using Lilly to hurry Pettite along, and to drive up the price for the Cubs.
  9. Theres no one really " just south" of us besides St Louis.. But who? Ummm... White Sox?
  10. Will Carroll speculating the Cubs have some prospects and ability to make a deal with a with a team for pitching "just south of them." Hmm....

  12. I've always thought it is a little presumptious to criticze a GM if a player chooses to go elsewhere. It sounds the Cubs offered him a deal, and so did LA. The player is incomplete control in the free aganet market, one of the few times in their career. If he wanted to stay out west that is more of a relfection of Schmidt's personal interest, not a negative against Hendry. If Hendry didn't even pursue him, then there would be an argument. But it looks like he did, and Schmidt decided to stay on the West Coast.
  13. The White Sox are apparently content to send him down to Charlotte next season. I think it is highly unlikely for them to trade him to the Cubs, but he would be a pretty good option at the back end of the rotation, and a cheap one. I think he could give you something similar to what Meche does, but with a lot more potential. Again, I think its highly unlikely. Just throwing it out there though.
  14. Once the playoffs began I had the sick feeling that would win the World Series. I'm starting to get that same feeling again as it pertains to Schmidt.
  15. like 78% of Soriano All these contracts are ridiculous, I know.
  16. I think it is a pipedream, but I would be very happy with the following starting rotation. Zambrano Schmidt Lilly Prior Hill
  17. Very expensive day for Boston. Still not sure how much it really improved them. You think you could get a little more than Drew and Lugo for 106 million. Wow.
  18. Good for Greg. He should do just fine pitching in Petco.
  19. I think he is worth more than Lilly.
  20. actually 5 teams thought they could and did hehe... I knew that was coming sooner or later.
  21. Can't say I'd bee all that thrilled w/ Zito either. I think Lilly can give you somewhat reasonable production compared to Zito for less cash. Although if Lilly is in the neighborhood of 10 to 11 million a year, i'm real anxious to see what Zito squeezes out of somebody.
