  1. you know my stance on him. If he can be had cheaply, sure. But the Reds won't trade him within the division cheaply. On the plus side, he would be singlehandedly responsible for the wind blowing out all season from all his swings and misses. Maybe that is Hendry's answer to getting outhomered at Wrigley. He'll either hit a homer, or provide enough generated wind force to help the rest of the team.
  2. How about all of the posters who were jumping all over Hendry? I think a whole bunch of people need to apologize for the things they were saying about Hendry. Don't hold your breath on that one....
  3. This outcome actually makes me very skeptical about the hometown discount reports. How so bro? You don't think it is beyond the realm of possibillity for Kinzer to put that out there so other teams will call up and in a very un-tamperlike manner insinuate how much they would give him? I'm sure Hendry made a good enough offer that if the hometwon discount and the "Cubs are my #1" were really true a deal would have been done a long time ago.
  4. your 100% sure he had a home-town discount? I don't quite buy all that talk. I think he just wants to move on.
  5. You're killing me Hendry. Secrets don't make friends....
  6. What the hell happened? What happened? I think all of that is just agent speak = crap. Or the Cubs wouldn't pony up with the years they wanted. Ever since the MacPhail era the Cubs have not wanted to give out longer term contracts. If his agent said those things to a reporter I think they are closer to the truth, than he was just blowing smoke. Hendry is not getting the job done. Both Lee and Rameriz kind of fell in his lap. Nomar had to be dealt and Hendry gave the Sox the best offer. He's not done much to bring talent to this team. His handling of the Sosa fiasco was just pathetic. It reminds me of the Ed Lynch era. Aramis is just in another of the long line of players who should have stayed with the Cubs. Maybe so, but even with his faults, I'm sure Hendry is offering a good chunk of change and years to A-ram. I just don't think he really wants to be a Cub. Who can blame him though?
  7. That's technically tampering. It's time to blow this team up. Trade everything of value, load up on prospects and young players, and just put the kibosh on the next two years. Sure it is, but I'm also sure it goes on. You know they have a good idea who is going to be offering contracts f he tests the market, and they didn't get that information from the newspaper.
  8. jim hendry and the trib happened. jim friggen hendry. Who the hell is Jim Hendry? Who the hell is the girl in your sig?
  9. Think about it. Kinzer and A-ram have nothing to gain by saying he will take a lower deal to stay in Chicago. I believe they are saying all that to get other teams calling them up and saying "no, we'll offer you x amount of dollars, don 't do a hometown deal."
  10. What the hell happened? What happened? I think all of that is just agent speak = crap.
  11. I'm just really curious to see how this is reported tomorrow. If the Cubs offered him 15+ million a year, I don't see how it is 100% Hendry and co. fault. If Kinzer and A-ram were serious about Chicago being the #1 choice and willing to take a lower deal, then that should get it done. If not, they are just blowing smoke about all that.
  12. Just to be devil's advocate here, but we have no idea what Hendry is offering Ramirez. Maybe he just doesn't want to play for the Cubs anymore. If he walks, it doens't necessarilly mean it wass 100% Hendry.
  13. Starting to believe all the home team discount stuff is just a load of crap. I'm sure the Cubs are offering A-Ram a good contract, I just think it is becoming obvious that he wants to flirt with some other teams. Despite what has been said by ramirez and his agent, I highly doubt the Cubs are his #1 choice. If they were, a deal would have been done a long time ago.
  14. I just have a vauge memory of it, was curious if my mind was just playing tricks on me. Not many good things come form 75K in a brown paper bag though.
  15. Wasn't there an incident in the Dominican with him where he had somewhere around $75,000 stolen from him? Apparently it was a brown paper bag filled with 75 grand. This has been a while, I think pre-1998. Anyone else remember this or am I just going crazy?
  16. Nobody was putting him in the HOF. OK, settle for multiple All-star appearences then?
  17. I agree. He's hardly the only option, and he's clearly no more of a sure thing than others. he may not be the only option, but in my opinion, he's clearly the best option. he's younger, he has more electric stuff than Zito or Schmidt, and thus more worth the money than either of those two. i just wonder what other FA options are out there for the Cubs to turn the team around. they weren't bad last year, they were god-awful. they need to make drastic changes. Hendry may have a big trade up his sleeve, but i don't see the Cubs improving dramatically through the FA market. i think a one-two punch of Z and Zaka is what this club needs, more so than Zito or Schmidt. perhaps i misspoke when i disagreed with your original point TheDude by saying the entire off-season hinges on this signing. but i think in terms of the other FAs out there, the Cubs are really blowing it by not going all out to get this guy. like i said, i don't think they will, and i think they'll regret it bigtime. Let him pitch a season over here before we proclaim him as the best pitching option. He may be lights out, but let's see it first. 4 years ago everyone was ready to put Kaz Matsui in the HOF before he even had an AB with the Mets. When i say everyone I am mostly including the media in that, but some on here were on the bandwagon as well.
  18. I agree. He's hardly the only option, and he's clearly no more of a sure thing than others. Couldn't agree more. Everyone has got so caught up in this. He is very talented, but hardly a sure thing. The money it would take (posting fee + contract) isn't worth it. Wish him well still the same.
  19. Sheffield is a (word I can't say here).... http://www.nypost.com/seven/11092006/sports/yankees/sheff_is_stewing_yankees_michael_morrissey.htm
  20. Wow, you'd think Sandy Koufax was being signed by the excitement in this thread. I still think it is a pretty big risk tot ake, committing that much money just for negotiation rights. He may turn out to be as advertised an be a bargain, in the process making me look like an idiot. I just can't get the Kaz Matsui flashbacks out of my head from a few years back.
  21. Your going to be waiting a while. You won't find anything out today.
  22. Good to see the numbers Moore and Patterson are putting up. I wasn't very high on Patterson going into the AFL season, he had a decent year, but hardly anything spectacular. Curious as to what will happen with Moore if A-ram is resigned. Not sure if he could re-learn SS or not. He mainly played 3B and 1B last year with the Cubs, if A-ram is back, those positions aren't likely to be open anytime soon.
  23. I've heard two reasons. One is that he was't a Francona-guy. The other is that he wasn't as good in the technical aspects as they wanted. Amittedly I don't know a whoe lot about Jackson. But if its true that he wasn't good in the "technical aspects" of hitting, it doesn't speak well for his ability as a hitting coach.
  24. So that precludes him from being an effective hitting coach? I'll ask again, can anyone give concrete reasons on why he wouldn't make a good hitting coach? I know Jackson is the hot name. From what I can gather it is basically just because he was in the Red Sox organization. Why was he let go? Why was Gaetti let go? I don't have enough information to make a qualified opinion on either one. Just curious what others think.
