  1. So what does everyone think about Lilly? Isn't he a bit of a mismatch for Wrigley, being a flyball pitcher and all? Maybe I'm not seeing it right. Should be an upgrade regardless, albeit an expensive one. He's ok enough to be a middle of the rotation starter on a decent staff, bad enough to be a btm of the rotation starter on a good staff, and good enough to be a top 2 starter on a bad staff. Good stuff
  2. Same worry here. I know he was great the 2nd half of the season, but I still have concerns. It would be great if he was slotted in the back end of the rotation, instead of one of the guys they are relyingon heavily.
  3. Who-Dey think gonna beat dem Bengals? Who-Dey think gonna beat dem Bengals? Nooooooooobody!
  4. No, but none of the FA pitcher are worth what they will be paid. Plus his game is poorly suited to Wrigley. Meche, Jennings, Westbrook and Padilla are all better options. If Meche is the answer, I don't want to know the question. Question... Who is going to have a tremendous Christmas gift? Gil Meche
  5. No need, I'm finished with it. Apologize for the distraction.
  6. Did that article, at least in a roundabout way, compare JoBo to Mariano Rivera?
  7. Who exactly exposed to the world that Sammy left the clubhouse early? Hmmmm. As well they should have. Bottom line is that he left, it all goes back to Sammy's actions regardless of what the Cubs do or don't say.
  8. No. But apparently that is the rate for mediocre pitchers.
  9. If you wish to use hindsight in viewing trades, I suppose I could see where you miss the robbery. I admit that the Cubs front office is more to blame for these deals than the Orioles. They couldn't have reduced the value of the those two players any more than they did prior to their trades. Whhat else should you use besides hindsight? Isn't that how all trades are ultimately judged? Corey Patterson reduced his own value, the Cubs didn't have to do anymore. Same with Sosa. Sosa could have netted someone like Cliff Floyd if the front office didn't do everything possible to destroy his image. Besides ruining his trade value, he also pounced on a crappy offer just to be out from under the Sosa deal. The Cubs ruined Sosa's image? More so than Sammy did himself? As an organization you hold each player accountable for their professionalism. Sosa just couldn't wait a few more hours to leave the clubhouse? I think walking out on your team and organization does enough damage. Sammy did himself in.

  11. Why? Cubs always seem to get the VERY short end of the stick when they trade with Baltimore. What has Baltimore received from the Cubs? A broken down Sosa, and a CF who still can't get on base. I guess I fail to see the robbery.
  12. He was pitching in severe pain with a torn labrum. He could have had surgery to repair it, but chose to retire. I doubt he has any plans on playing again.
  13. I think Overbay is by far the better player. .312/.372/.508 I don't think Choi would approach that. I would also disagree that he hasn't had a chance. Outside of Florida (before they dealt him), what team gave him a chance to be a regular starter? Florida was the only one, and he played well for them. Ummm... LA? He played in 133 games in 2005 with the Dodgers. He didn't have a terrible year, .253/.336/.453. His numbers this year at Pawtucket were awful, but as some have noted, he was recovering from a knee problem. .207/.347/.361. He has always been a fan of the SABR and stat crows, and rightfully so. Yet the last two organization he has been with, LA (with Depodesta and company in 2004 and 2005) and Boston haven't seemed to value him too highly. I think he can be adequate, but I don't think he will ever be considerd a really good player. He amounts to just about every other Cub "prospect" that came up during that time, overrated.

  15. I like him and also hope he does well. I just don't think he is that good.
  16. So according to that Cliff Floyd is a Type-A free agent? I'm not all that keen on the compensation picks. Does that mean if we sign him we'd have to give up a 1st round pick? Not necessarilly. The Cubs pick is protected, since they were so crappy last year.
  17. Well, when you put up the following numbers you are probably going to be classified as a type-a free agent. .300/.349/.518 23 HR 25 2B 70 RBI He had a very good year for the Reds. Free Agent classifications are based on the last 2 seasons. In this case, Aurilia was still not bad in '05, but I thought it was worth pointing out. I'm aware, but thanks.

  19. Just a bit. Hehe... Thought I would be. Disregard please.
  20. Am I late to the party on this? http://www.metronews.ca/uploadedFiles/PDFs/20061201_Toronto.pdf Go to page 27.
  21. Jacque Jones - 2 years/10 mil Career - 280/.328/.461 2006 - .285/.334/.499 Gary Matthews Jr. - 5 years/50 mil Career - .263/.336/.419 2006 - .313/.371/.495 I think there's a case to be made that he has "some solid trade value". That is why I think it would be crazy to trade him. It is very popular around here to bash him, but in this lineup he can be a very productive player as your fifth or sixth best hitter. Unless you can seriously upgrade, I don't think it is a bad idea to keep him.
  22. Wow, hell of a comeback for IU. Too bad they couldn't get a shot off there at the end. I liked the fight I saw from them. Could have just given up after the awful first half. Its a tall task going up against Duke without one of your best players.
  23. yeah, so he could wrestle sumo the pitcher doesn't get the money anyway . . . I know that, but it is still money that has to be paid in order to get the player. Is this guy really worth that kind of bid?
  24. 25 Million for a guy projected to be a 5th starter or long reliever? Damn, I bet Glendon Rusch wishes he was Japanese.
