  1. Who knows enough about Gaetti as a hitting coach to really have a qualified opinion on whether or not he should be the hitting coach?
  2. Just "Ankiel" Verlander
  3. Ehhhh.... I appreciate what he did for the city and the team. But, you'll never convince me it wasn't artificially induced. Also, bailing on your team the last day of the season when all you had to do was hang out another 3 hours or so is inexcusable. I wish him well in his future endeavors, but his time has come and gone.
  4. Dubois got a shot with the Cubs, and he was moved to Cleveland where he didn't do much either. He had an OK year with Cleveland's AAA team. I think Dubois and Restovich are long lost brothers.
  5. I wanted Dubois to get a chance. What I didn't want was an outfield of Dubois, Patterson and Burnitz. Likewise, I wanted Murton to get a chance, but I didn't want an OF of Murton, Pierre and Jones. You need some big time production out of your OF. Going with a guy like Dubois, or Murton, should allow you to afford big time production elsewhere in that OF. The problem wasn't giving a kid the chance. The problem was giving him the chance, but them constructing a team that needed that kid to produce big time, right away, in order to succeed. I see your point. But part of is that Dubois just wasn't very good. Murton is 3x the player of Dubois. I'm not all that confident Dubois' stats would have been any better with more production out of CF and RF.
  6. You should never make personel decisions based solely on what the player did the year before. Agreed, but his 2003 wasn't too bad either. I say that with this in mind, Hendry basically replaced him with Burnitz. I would have taken Alou over JB every day of the week. I thought Hendry replaced Sosa with Burnitz. And that bum Dubois replaced Alou. Dubois was awful. There were outcries for Dubois like crazy that offseason. He got the job and preceded to lose it pretty quickly.

  8. I think it wuld be a good move. I also don't think Alou should have ever left in the first place. His numbers in 2004 were outstanding. .293/.361/.557
  9. There isn't a need for deception on a sac bunt. The whole ballpark can know its coming, if you get the bunt down it doesn't make any difference. If you know it's coming, then the success rate goes down. Based on what? If a player gets the bunt down anywhere towards the third base line there isn't a thing they can do about it.

  11. That argument is as ignorant as when "old time baseballers" flat out deny the statistical side of the game. You have to look at both. I just happen to think putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out would have been the better move. It may tighten Wainwright up a bit more, having never pitched in a situation as big as last night. He was throwing very well though.
  12. True, but a basehit after the bunt most likely ties the game, espcially with Chavez running. An extra base hit (okay, a long single since Floyd can't run) ties the game and there are still no outs. Pinch run for Floyd and then consider bunting the pinch runner over. No way do I waste a precious out down by 2 in the bottom of the 9th. If they bunt, Valentin is on 3rd, and Chavez at 2nd. A single would pretty much tie the game. It wouldn't take an extra base hit. I still think, having runners at 2nd and 3rd with Reyes up has a better chance than Floyd who has hardly had any postseason AB's.
  13. With Floyd, who has only had one other at bat the whole series? Floyd is hurt and can't run. Even if he did get a hit you have to take him out anyway. I thnk the smarter move was to bunt, then PH Floyd for Lo Duca possibly if needed.

  15. I think he could brought in a guy like Woodward to bunt.
  16. Last night in the 9th, you have to bunt in that situation. Leave FLoyd on the bench and bring in someone else to bunt. Having men on 2nd and 3rd with one out and Reyes coming up would be a better situation. Did Randolph think Floyd was going to go all Kirk Gibson on the Cardinals and hit one out? I know there are some bunt detractors on here, but I think last night the right call was to bunt.
  17. Suppan isn't unhittable, but he is a very solid pitcher. He is very reliable, making 30+ starts and around 180-200 innings the past 4 years. Has pretty good control and an ERA around 3.80-4.15. Depending on what happens during the winter I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him in to be a # 3 or 4. The Cubs need someone better than him, but pairing him up with a #1 or 2 wouldn't be a bad move. Having said all that, he has probably made himself a lot of money with his pitching lately. I wouldn't pay him THAT much.

  19. McCarver was a Mets broadcaster for quite a long time though.
  20. I'm happy for Joe Pettini, St. Louis' bench coach. Thats about it though.
  21. Wainwright just made Beltran his you know what. Filthy.
  22. not with an out already - unless its for a hit. Referring to the previous AB>
