  1. If we're intent on not spending big on a closer, I like the idea of Doolittle or Holland. High reward signings. I'd still be happy with Rondon closing and Strop/Edwards/Grimm as the top setup men.
  2. yes plz Lmao, I read the first part of that trade and was like "oh boy, what does that get us?" and then read the second part and nearly spit out my coffee. I do that trade all day every day. It really is too bad Bowden isn't still a GM.
  3. I've long been a Gardner fan. If Fowler doesn't pan out, I'd be in favor of a deal. Again, not sure how great his CF is anymore but I believe the metrics still rate him positively in the corners and he was third in the league in outfield assists this year (in reference to the question about his arm). Would allow a lot of mixing and matching in outfield defense with him, Almora and Heyward.
  4. Another potential outfield option
  5. For some reason I was irrationally annoyed we traded Blevins for the ghost of Jason Kendall. I'd be a fan on a one year deal. Was good this past year and has a 3.21 FIP over the past four years.
  6. Three outfielders on the bench? Also thinking that's kinda underwhelming for Soler. How bout a throwback trade idea and see if the Orioles have finally soured on Bundy?
  7. That bums me out a little. Really liked the idea of him in our pen. A
  8. One of the biggest busts of the last 10-20 years?
  9. All the obvious choices. I can definitely see any of: John Andreoli Stephen Bruno Armando Rivero Bijan Rademacher Tyler Skulina being taken. Anyone else isn't likely worth a roster spot (too far away or not good enough). I am surprised they didn't roster Rivero.
  10. Lefty, good minor league numbers, terrible major league numbers. Your standard depth "try to stash him in AAA" guy.
  11. I ordered three things from Fansedge. Two shipped last night (a shirt and the knit cap the players wore in the parade). Another hat I ordered hasn't shipped yet. I also gave family a list of a few more things for Christmas. We'll see how they can mess that up.
  12. Also, today is the last day to add players to the 40 man roster to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Cubs currently at 34 on the roster.
  13. I keep coming back to the Blue Jays as a fit. Need help in the outfield, would give them another power bat. Is Soler and someone like Stinnett, Caratini or Dewees not enough for, say, Stroman?
  14. SKYBALLERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. The dude who thought Creed were as good as the Beatles. Trying to remember what his user name was before we forced him to change it to Skyballer MurtonFan! What ever happened to him? Did he give up fighting the "good" fight to prove that the Beatles were overrated?
  15. I had some kind of hope he'd sign with the Cubs and go back to the pen.
  16. YEAAAHHH. Rizzo finished 4th. Russell and Hendricks also got votes. Lester did not.
  17. [tweet] [/tweet] Two year deal for a guy who missed most of last year and was a healthy "meh" before that.
  18. I enjoy the idea of the Mets emptying the farm system for that contract. I also believe the Reds never deserved a player like Votto, when the manager and GM have said things like he should walk less.
  19. I may he crazy, but I'd want to keep Almora, but I guess for the right deal you bite the bullet. Baez I keep even if he doesnt have a starting spot penciled in. If Dexter comes back, we have to assume it's a 4 year deal, 3 at the very least. I don't see a need to keep Almora in that case. I think Soler and Almora become trade bait if Dex comes back. I like the idea of keeping Almora to split time between all three outfield positions. Still get him 200+ at bats and keep the elite defense, especially with Schwarber's limitations. Szczur doesn't have any options left and could probably fetch a prospect from a team in need of outfield depth. Soler seems to be the most likely one traded. So you have Heyward, Schwarber, Fowler, with Almora and a number of depth AAA guys, in addition to Baez and Zobrist being able to play out there.
  20. I take as the Phillies didn't want him to accept and wanted to get the pick, but they can afford him and have a spot in their rotation for him. I'm sure they aren't thrilled, given they kept him at the deadline to get the draft pick this offseason, but it sets them up to trade him at the deadline if he's still good/healthy.
  21. Aaaand Hellickson accepting the QO. I....don't get that. Weak market, he was definitely getting a 3-4 year deal from someone.
  22. Here's my hastily made Top 40. Let the hot takes fly.
  23. Heyman is reporting again that he will decline it. Apparently Hellickson and Walker are still on the fence about accepting/declining.
  24. Also, did a double take with this one:
