  1. The Kearns trade last year proved he isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. But agreed, ths would be a really really really dumb move for the Reds. Hendry should definitely get in the middle of this, but he probably won't.
  2. Not good. Cmon, Jim, you can propose such a better trade.
  3. Krivsky does love those relief pitchers.
  4. Well, we actually got them to take Izzy. Would it be far to dream for one of these guys as the PTBNL? :P
  5. ARGH!!!! #*&@#*($&@#*($&@#*$& DOUBLE ARGH @#*($&@#*($&@#*($&@#$ And, a few words I'm not allowed to type here. Sorry Jake, but we had to dump our garbage somewhere and apparantly your Pittsburgh Pirates wanted him. I wonder how my Pirates fans friends from Penn State are reacting. Is Littlefield still the GM? How does he still have a job?
  6. Ditto. Yanks will be buyers. Again. I think Dmitri Young is headed to NY. With all that money, all that pressure to win, and being a mere 6/7 games out of the playoffs--in mid-July, no less--there is no chance they are sellers. The Cubs' best opportunities for trades will be with the usual suspects. Attention Jim Hendry: just hang up the phone when Baltimore calls. Please. Andy Phillips has been playing rather well since he was called up and has been clutch for them. Everything is clicking for them right now and I don't see them upgrading at first base quite yet.
  7. IZZY IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Cubs are giving me a late birthday present. :D
  8. It was only one game...but it wasn't pretty. At least he didn't strike out! :P And there's the silver lining
  9. Maybe as a spare part in a deal, but I doubt teams would want him enough to not take other, better players in a trade.
  10. Grienke still has a lot of upside. I'd do it for the right price.
  11. Where's the option for a teenager striking out The Whammer on 3 pitches?
  12. ERA+ of 171 and a 0.900 WHIP. Man, was he lights out or what? That he was. I remember having an argument with one fan who was adamant about W-L being the most important pitcher statistic. I tried to get him to concede the point by comparing Johnson that year (2004) to Sean Estes (who went 15-8 with a 5.84 ERA that year). He just said that Johnson was a .500 pitcher and Estes was a winner. I wanted to pull my hair out. I run into the same problem. I pose them this question: You have one game to win. Do you go with pitcher A (7-12 2.75) or pitcher B (16-8 5.50)? About 60% of the people I ask choose pitcher B, citing the fact that "he wins games".
  13. Where would Dunn play? I can't imagine him trying to play RF. He'd be a butcher out there, but imagine him in the middle of the lineup. And Soriano (and Pie if recalled to start) would cover enough ground and play good enough defense to make up for Dunn's miscues.
  14. Highly doubt it. Don't see any reason why the Rangers would trade away one of the best major league relief pitchers/closers for a good minor league reliever. Just doesn't make sense. Like I said, spitballing. Not sure how much they would want in return. I'm starting to think it might take one of those guys and someone like Gallagher. Really, as stated prior, our pen needs little adjustment and we have in house solutions for those. Our bigger needs lie elsewhere.
  15. Maybe 5-10 years ago. Definitely a big "no" now.
  16. ESPN's Pedro Gomez tried to approach Bonds and Bonds replied "Take a hike".
  17. It's been discussed on the board before and we are in fact one of the teams scouting him. I think we could probably net him for something like Piggy of Rapada, but I'm spitballing here. I'm assuming the Rangers would want someone close to contributing in the majors.
  18. Don't know if this was posted anywhere, and mods can lock it or merge accordingly if so:
  19. 1. Beane 2. Schuerholz 3. Shapiro 4. Ryan 5. Dombrowski 6. Epstein 7. Beinfest 8. Melvin 9. Towers 10. Minaya
