  1. Woo, Pronger and Getzlaf are all stars. Holy crap at Ovechkin's contract. Boy's gettin paid big time.
  2. Do 11 solid innings in the majors make this guy a prospect? I'm not seeing much in his minor league numbers that suggest he's much more than average-above average, but he's getting talked about by some people like he's a top prospect. Does his potential say otherwise?
  3. Wow you guys amaze me, its not a 5 year contract, its a minor league deal with an invite to spring training. He's been a decent bulpen arm in the past, I remember some games that year he blew his arm out when he looked real good. He's worth a look, and thats all this really is. Why do people have to get negative and talk down about a guy this way I dont really understand. Probably because Jim is making a bunch of moves like this instead of ones that could improve the team. I have nothing wrong with this signing, but I wonder if Fukudome is gonna be the only big move we make.
  4. Maybe that is truth because of this : The indians have offered Franklin Gutierrez and Adam Miller for Roberts per Bruce Levine on espn 1000 last night. With the indians now having an offer on the table maybe AM wants to create a bidding war. If he wants to play this game the cubs should just walk away. Roberts is a good player but i wouldn't go higher than Gallagher- Murton- Cedeno for him and that is assuming De Rosa plays SS. If De Rosa is going to be on the bench i am not thrilled about this trade either. Getting Peralta to play SS makes much more sense because it would fill the real hole the team has which is SS although Peralta isn't a good fielder he at least has power and would be an improvement over Theriot. Oh sweet Jesus. The O's would be dumb to turn that down.
  5. I see no reason why the Cubs should want/need/ inquire about Melky.
  6. And he probably juiced to suck as good as he did. Sam Fuld>>>>Scott Posednik
  7. Oh, now I'm sitting in anticipation for the most epic trade ever. :D
  8. ...so that means, he's still unsigned? Quick somebody call JH! I hope that's sarcasm.
  9. Bavasi only does that trade if he wants to see what an angry mob would look like. Is Bavasi smart enough to know what an angry mob looks like?
  10. I know, I feel the same way. It's getting on my nerves that the offseason has been desolate for us. Granted, the market is crawling with mediocre players, but something still needs to be done. We may have a playoff caliber team, but I don't think the team as it stands now gets to the World Series.
  11. Not a huge Hillary fan, but may vote for her depending upon who gets the Republican nomination. And I also like Bill.
  12. Yes, it's one day closer to being done or not being done. In other words, most of what was published or broadcast yesterday was nonsense. The Cubs would still like Roberts. They are not trading Hill, Pie or Colvin for him. As I said yesterday, they're willing to give up some combination of Gallagher-Marshall-Cedeno for him, and that's it. The names of Hill, Marmol, Pie and Colvin are what the Orioles would be asking for Bedard, and the Cubs aren't in on any Bedard deal. Thanks, Bruce. Off topic, but have you heard anything about Hendry acquiring another starter or is he content with the rotation as is? Somebody asked him yesterday if Henry was looking at anybody else to acquire at the moment, and Bruce replied that they liked Lieber. Ah. Depending on how much he'd take, I'd go for that. I prefer him in the rotation over Dempster.

  14. Seems mostly fair all the way around for each team. And that's exactly why it will never happen.
  15. So the thread finally surpassed 100 pages. Woot. Anything new or is the deal still "close"?
  16. Well, here's the BA Top 10: 1. Josh Vitters, 3b 2. Geovany Soto, c/1b 3. Tyler Colvin, of 4. Jose Ceda, rhp 5. Sean Gallagher, rhp 6. Donald Veal, lhp 7. Josh Donaldson, c 8. Jeff Samardzija, rhp 9. Tony Thomas, 2b 10. Kevin Hart, rhp So I'd guess Vitters and Soto.
  17. Thanks for the update Bruce. It's nice to have an insider of our own. Hope all is well on the home front.
  18. How many of these will there be?: "How did we get to 100 pages about a Brian Roberts trade that hasn't happened yet?"
  19. I have to imagine the conversation would start with Billingsley/LaRoche/Kemp + some guys from the lower levels of the Dodger system and go from there. Beane would brake his arm from trying to pat himself on the back.
