  1. Going on right now. Mostly his opinion, but he mentions the following Cubs related items: Doubts Peavy is a done deal yet. He likes Desipio but doesn't think the rumor should be trusted. Hawpe wouldn't be a bad option. Fukudome is best off in CF. Furcal isn't Plan A or B for the Cubs.
  2. Let's say we don't get Peavy. What does Hendry do if he also can't re-sign Dempster? And if he does, does he make an attempt for another starter?
  3. NY Daily News says we're looking at Hermida, but that's about all it says. Nothing new.
  4. There's speculation the Braves could close the deal soon, but that's all it is, speculation. Nothing concrete still, and Peavy said he would reject a trade to the Braves if their package ruins the team's chances to compete next year.
  5. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=5641 3.41 ERA/1.28WHIP/29 Saves last year. In the pen, perhaps. At the end of the pen, no thanks. 8 losses (9 blown saves) from the guy at the end of the pen is not what I want to see. The most telling stat to me: 4.88 BB/9 last season. Yeah, that's a lot.
  6. I just came to post this. I don't know how much truth there is to it, though. I think he's just guessing.
  7. If we don't get Peavy, a deal for Hermida and Olson could end up being a good deal depending on the cost. Take Olsen and flip him to the O's in a deal for BRob. Assuming Pie and Cedeno would be part of a trade: 1B - Lee 2B - BRob SS - Theriot 3B - ARam LF - Soriano CF - Fukudome/Johnson RF - Hermida/Derosa C - Soto Bench: Johnson/Fukudome, Fontenot, Hoffpair, Derosa/Hermida, MI sub, Blanco/Hill But then what does the rotation look like? The only way I would trade Olsen after acquiring him would be to include him in a deal for Peavy.
  8. I wore my 07 Division Champs shirt the other day. It was the first time I wore anything Cubs since they exited the playoffs.
  9. Defeatist...and I couldn't disagree more. edit..hit the submit button too early. We're not going to get Gregg. Maybe Olsen and Hermida, but not all three. I'm just trying to be realistic. I don't know what's going to happen, but Towers seems like what the Braves have. I just don't want to be set up for disappointment.
  10. I think we should start getting ready for the arrival of Scott Olsen, Jeremdy Hermida and Kevin Gregg. I'm getting a feeling we won't be getting Peavy. I know it's all speculation but Towers seems to like Gorkys.
  11. Yeah, I thought we'd only win 7-8 games this year, too.
  12. Congrats Iowa. My school, on the other hand.... I'm so angry I can barely type.
  13. My guess would be $$$$$$$$$. Although I'm sure they could do better than the Cardinals offer even if that is the case. Yeah, they could still get a better package if they shopped around. No way should this be the best they can get.
  14. Summary of recent events from CBS Sportsline:
  15. This game is pissing me off.
  16. If I'm the Rockies, I at least demand Rasmus. I don't know why they think two journeymen with career years is a good return for a top hitter.
  17. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-peavydeal110608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns With this latest news, I would imagine the Cubs are the team looking at a 3 or 4 team trade, since the inclusion of Tommy Hanson and/or Jordan Shafer trumps any players we can offer. Only thing is, I don't see Atlanta doing this. Towers is playing poker with Atlanta and Chicago, hoping one of them ups the ante enough to pull the trigger. Luckily for Atlanta and Chicago, Peavy is the pit boss in this card game. How is Schafer any better than Pie. The guy is just like Pie (.605 OPS vs. lefties and can't walk), is probably slightly worse in the field than Felix, and just got suspended for hgh or something (I know it was something...not sure if it was hgh). In my eyes a Pie, Cedeno, Marshall, Ceda and 1 of Castillo/Hart/Atkins is just as good as anything the Braves offer outside of putting Hanson in a deal. Jo-Jo Reyes and Gorkys Hernandez are you kidding me. I'd have to agree. The Padres are getting what they want: a speedy CF, a middle infielder, a major league ready starter and some other good prospects.
  18. Less than impressed with some of those, but it doesn't hurt to be realistic.
  19. If we end up only giving up Pie, Cedeno, Atkins, someone like Veal, and another prospect...I may faint.
  20. Thanks for the info Bruce. What are the odds Peavy goes to the Cubs and do you think they'd have enough left over to acquire a bat?
  21. Please don't tell me OH stands for Orioles Hangout. That would be the joke. Yeah, I didn't read it closely enough the first time.
